Madden NFL 14 will celebrate 25th anniversary of the series on August 27

madden2014-announcement-header

Stop the presses! EA Sports has announced that Madden NFL 14 will be released on August 27. Giving the green light to another Madden game was surely a tough decision for company executives, but they’ve decided to give the team at EA Tiburon another chance.

Madden NFL 14 will be the 25th annual release in the series, stretching all the way back to 1989’s John Madden Football. In fact, EA is even asking gamers to “Check back soon for more details regarding Madden 25.” So it might not be known as Madden NFL 14 at all.

I wonder how John Madden wants to celebrate his silver anniversary? I’m guessing with a nice, juicy piece of turducken.

Skulls of the Shogun Review: Tactically Storming the Samurai Afterlife

skullsoftheshogun-header

General Akamoto is having a pretty bad day. Just as he’s about to become Japan’s new Shogun, he’s betrayed by one of his own and killed. The icing on the cake? Someone is impersonating him. Skulls of the Shogun features fantastic art and sound design that marry themes from ancient Japanese art style with Cartoon Network style. The aesthetic attention to detail by 17-Bit is remarkable. The whimsical Japanese fantasy setting is brought to life by magnificent character and level design, and accessible, progressive tactical strategy gameplay. (more…)

Grand Theft Auto V release date set for September 17

grandtheftautov-logoWhen I think about Spring, I think about Easter, PAX East, and baseball. What I don’t normally think about is the month of September. But I guess the folks at Rockstar Games think a bit differently from me as they’ve announced that the official release date for Grand Theft Auto V will be September 17, 2013. Let me just check a calendar… nope, September definitely doesn’t fall within the Springtime.

According to Rockstar, the additional development time is required to create the “massively ambitious and complex game” and that it “simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.”

I guess we can stop referring to May as the month of Rockstar, huh?

skullsoftheshogun-header

The first cross-platform Xbox Live Arcade game is here. 17-Bit’s tactical action game Skulls of the Shogun can be synced with your Xbox 360, Windows Phone, Windows 8 PC, and Windows RT tablet so that you can always get a game in.

It’s available for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15) and features, I swear I’m not making this up, vibrant ghost-samurai warriors:

Skulls of the Shogun is a mashup between classic turn-based strategy and fast-paced arcade gameplay. Washing up on the shores of the afterlife, players meet and join forces with vibrant ghost-samurai warriors, magical animal-monks, and mustachioed samurai generals on the way to recapturing lost honor! Boasting an easy to play interface while retaining compelling depth, Skulls of the Shogun is a challenging test of skill for veteran gamers, but friendly even to players new to the genre.

halo4spartanops610-header

Rejoice, Halo 4 Spartan Ops fans: 343 Industries has kicked off the second half of Season One with Episode 6, the first of five new weekly releases for the popular four-player co-operative mode (and yes, I tried to squeeze in as many numbers into that sentence as humanly possible). Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4 coming this Spring

rainslick4-posterIt’s been a long-time coming, but Zeboyd Games has announced that we’ll finally get a chance to play Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness 4 this Spring. The final game in the four-part series will be available for the PC and Xbox Live Indie Games and Zeboyd promises it’ll be “the largest Precipice of Darkness game yet!”

You can find the first screenshots of Rain-Slick 4 at the game’s official website and an in-depth interview with Zeboyd’s Robert Boyd and Bill Stiernberg at IGN lays out even more details about the RPG event of the year. For example, we now know that Rain-Slick 4 will carry the same $4.99/400 Microsoft Points price as Episode 3.

Are you ready to punch the final ancient god in the face? I hope so, because it won’t be long now.
