Daily Scoop: April 9, 2012 – Post-PAX East edition!

Hello, Daily Scoop followers! I have been absent for quite a while, but today I am back and ready to bring you the best in deals and gaming t-shirts! S get ready your clicking hand and pull out your credit card, because you might not be able to turn these down today.

First and foremost, this weekend was a very exciting one for the Warp Zoned staff. John Scalzo, WZ’s Editor-In-Chief, and I finally got to meet in person at PAX East! We had a blast playing games, conducting interviews, and running around the expo hall. We’re recovering now, but we’ll be posting a lot of articles this week, so be on the lookout! Spoiler alert: we weren’t disappointed by what we saw, and we don’t think you will be, either.

As far as deals go, Amazon’s got some good ones:

I also poked around Amazon’s video game clearance sale, but the only game I found worth purchasing was Sushi Go Round for the DS, which is just $9.24. I’m serious when I say you should scoop that one up immediately!

Just one game-related t-shirt today, but it’s certainly a must-buy for me! (more…)

New Releases: Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir, Phantom Breaker, More

If you’re spending this weekend in Boston for PAX East, next week’s new releases are probably the last thing on your mind. Well, that’s not entirely accurate as Nintendo is demoing Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir and it’ll be available in stores next week. It is next week’s biggest new release by far, though a trio of other games will be available…

There’s Phantom Breaker (Xbox 360), a 2D fighting game from new publishing label 7Sixty.

There’s also the 4-In-1 Action Pack (PS3), which includes Mushroom Wars, Digger HD, Smash Cars and Wakeboarding HD.

Finally, there’s Top Trumps: NBA All Stars, which is a game that is for the 3DS. And it features Top Trumps.

Who? Top. Trumps.

Anomaly: Warzone Earth Review: It’s Good To Be a Creep

Tower defense games are incredibly fun and addicting; heck, I don’t even want to think about the obscene amount of time I’ve spent trying to improve my scores in Defense Grid. Blasting creeps as they snake past your towers never gets old, but have you ever wondered what it would be like to play as the creeps? (more…)

WayForward bringing Double Dragon: Neon to PSN, XBLA

Publisher Majesco and developer WayForward (who were the team behind the excellent Contra 4 and the less excellent BloodRayne: Betrayal) have announced their latest retro revival: Double Dragon: Neon!

Double Dragon: Neon will be available for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade this Summer and will make its public debut at this year’s PAX East expo (which starts in just under an hour!). Gamers are encouraged to take the battle to the Black Dragon Clan (and their new leader, Skullmageddon) at the Reverb Booth (#808).

“Double Dragon: Neon is far from a standard retro remake,” said Sean Velasco, Director, WayForward. “It’s WayForward’s love letter to the decade that spawned the franchise – the music, the style, and culture of the 80’s pulse through the nucleus of Double Dragon: Neon. But don’t think this is a simple graphical facelift; with our innovative ‘mix tape’ level up system and power-up high-fives, we pushed it to the limit!”

If you can’t make it to PAX East, be sure to check out Double Dragon: Neon’s first screenshots and concept art on the game’s Facebook page.

BioWare plans to expand Mass Effect 3 ending this Summer with free “Extended Cut” DLC

The fan reaction to the Mass Effect 3 ending is quickly becoming the video game news event of the Spring. While many were happy (or, at least, satisfied) with how BioWare brought their sci-fi epic to a close, many others were not. And made their displeasure heard for weeks after the game’s launch. BioWare said they were listening to all that fan feedback, and today, they’ve announced a free DLC pack that just might appease the masses.

Known as the “Extended Cut,” the DLC will be made available to download this Summer at no charge for all PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 players. But BioWare went to great lengths to point out that the Extended Cut won’t change the current ending to Mass Effect 3. Instead, the DLC will expand it by inserting “additional cinematic sequences and epilogue scenes” into the game. BioWare promises that these new scenes will “provide deeper insights into how [your] personal journey concludes.”

Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series, reiterated this point by saying, “We have reprioritized our post-launch development efforts to provide the fans who want more closure with even more context and clarity to the ending of the game, in a way that will feel more personalized for each player.”

If you have more questions, BioWare has posted an Extended Cut FAQ on their website… or you can ask personally bring your questions to the team at this weekend’s PAX East expo.

Mass Effect 3 Review: Is It A Shepard… or the Sheep?

Finally, Mass Effect 3 is here, and has smashed into the face of the gaming public like a ship traveling through a Mass Relay station. It seemed like BioWare couldn’t push this title out fast enough after the impressive Mass Effect 2, but they may have taken mach speed too seriously and lost some vital components. We’ve got the long and short of it, pitting a Paragon against a Renegade for an important debate on the recently-docked Mass Effect 3. Is the game as polished as Joker keeps the Normandy, or did BioWare’s shields sustain too much heavy fire while working towards their trilogy-capping title? (more…)
