Giants beat Patriots in Super Madden Simulation Bowl XLVI
EA Sports has run their annual Madden Simulation of the Super Bowl and this year’s edition of the game has the New York Giants emerging victorious over the new England Patriots 27-24. In a strange reversal of the their win in Super Bowl XXV, according to EA, the Giants will win Super Bowl XLVI on a last-minute field goal.
The game itself is predicted to be a shootout with Eli Manning throwing two touchdowns (one to Hakeem Nicks and one to Victor Cruz) en route to a Super Bowl MVP award. The simulation says that Ahmad Bradshaw will also run for a touchdown.
But Tom Brady won’t go easy on the G-Men. Mr. Gisele Bundchen hit Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, and Wes Welker for touchdonws in the loss.
EA Sports has been running a Madden Super Bowl Simulation for the last eight years and has amassed a fairly accurate 6-2 record in that time. However, last year’s pick was a bust as it predicted the Steelers would squeak by the Packers 23-20. Reality had different plans as the Packers beat the Steelers 31-25.
The only other time the Madden prediction was wrong was Super Bowl XLII… where the Patriots were picked to beat the Giants. Better luck this year, EA Sports (especially since I’m a Giants fan).

The 2012 video game year can officially begin… NOW! It’s been a long (and mostly dry) month, but publishers are finally ready to start unloading their big guns.

The Witcher 2 coming to Xbox 360 on April 17
CD Projekt RED has announced they’re bringing their popular PC RPG, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, to the Xbox 360 on April 17. Two retail versions will be released, including the standard edition (which is actually called the Enhanced Edition) and a special edition known as the Dark Edition. The Enhanced Edition will contain all of the PC version’s currently released downloadable content, as well as Enhanced Edition-exclusive features such as new quests and locations as well as “the introduction of major new NPCs who intensify the struggle for power in the Northern Kingdoms.” All of the Enhanced Edition features will be available for free to those who already own the PC version.
The Dark Edition will include the entirety of the Enhanced Edition as well as all the special edition trappings including a soundtrack CD, an artbook, a Quest Handbook, and a Witcher medallion.
The head of CD Projekt RED studio, Adam Badowski, said, “The Xbox 360 version is a complete adaptation of the game to the new platform, we’ve rewritten the code so it feels native to the console. This latest version of The Witcher 2 has been expanded in many ways, and some experts believe it to be one of the best-looking games ever to make it to consoles.”
There will also be a brand new CGI introduction to the game, directed by Tomasz Baginski, a BAFTA winner and Oscar nominee. Additionally, the Xbox 360 version will also have lots of new cinematics. I wonder how it will compare to the PC version?

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Hands-On Preview: The Elder Fable of War Effect

Imagine, if you will, that there was an action RPG that incorporated elements from games such as God of War, Fable, The Elder Scrolls series, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect. Now imagine that the development of this game involved Ken Rolston, the lead designer of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the lore of fantasy writer R.A. Salvatore, and the art of Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn. Well, imagine no longer! Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is on its way and is ready to drown you in an amalgam of role-playing goodness. Spring release for Aliens: Colonial Marines nuked from orbit
Apologies for the headline, but it was the only way to be sure you’d read this update on the release date for Aliens: Colonial Marines as the oft-delayed squad shooter has been delayed by Sega again.
Speaking to Game Informer, the publisher has confirmed that the delay was due to a desire to make sure the game is as polished as a Xenomorph’s head.
OK, not really, but Sega (and developer Gearbox Software) did cite a need for more development time as the primary reason for the delay:
Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don’t necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line. While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don’t want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blue print. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blue print because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date.
Aliens: Colonial Marines will now be available in the Fall for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. A Wii U version will also be available sometime this Fall or whenever it is Nintendo’s new console will launch.
Awesomesauce! Chris Pratt stars in the latest Kinect Star Wars trailer
You know, I think I could used to Hollywood actors invading my video game trailers. Especially after this week’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 trailer featuring Rob Riggle and this “trailer” for Kinect Star Wars starring Chris Pratt of “Parks and Recreation.”
I say “trailer” because it’s just an excuse for Pratt to make a mockery of the Darth Vader/Obi-Wan Kenobi duel from Star Wars. Kinect Star Wars isn’t even hinted at until the tag at the end.
But so what? If this trailer were placed on Ron Swanson’s Pyramid of Greatness, it would be near the top.

European publisher Rising Star Games opens a US office
Rising Star Games will be expanding beyond Europe in the coming days as they’ve announced the opening of a North American office. The publisher specializes in localizing quirky Japanese games, and mostly has that market to themselves in Europe. By jumping in to the American game market, they’ll now be competing against several established players in that space such as XSEED, Atlus, NIS America, and Aksys Games.
But as they say, more competition is always a good thing.
Rising Star plans to make a splash with their first North American release this Spring when the company will bring Cave’s Akai Katana to the Xbox 360 in both Europe and North America.
The publisher also plans to delve into downloadable games for the first time with the launch of their Rising Star Games Digital label. The digital group will work on bringing “the most engaging video games” to the Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, Steam, the Android Marketplace and the iTunes App Store.
