New Saints Row: The Third trailer has you “Freefalling”

THQ’s Saints Row: The Third just keeps looking better and better. The latest trailer, “Freefalling,” is from the second mission in the game. The Syndicate gets miffed when the Saints rob one of their banks, and capture you, Johnny Gat, and Shaundi. After it’s clear the Syndicate won’t get what it wants from the Saints, they try to take them out – but you and Johnny have a different idea. I love the humor in this – Johnny Gat says he’ll go fly the plane, to which Shaundi replies: “Johnny, you can’t even drive stick. How are you going to pilot a plane?” Check out the trailer to see some of the freefalling action, and how you have to catch Shaundi before it’s too late.

Saints Row: The Third will be out October 15 on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Daily Scoop: August 12, 2011 – Please buy Pokemon!

Hello everyone, and welcome to a beautiful Friday! Today, my biggest advice to you is: please buy Pokemon HeartGold or Pokemon SoulSilver! They are currently $24.99 at GameStop, and they come with Pokewalkers! What does that mean? That means they come with pedometers that look like Pokeballs that you can put your Pokemon on and level them up as you walk around. Has your brain exploded yet? This also means that if you see me at PAX, we can connect our Pokewalkers and our Pokemon can play together. Yay!

Also up for today is Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games, which is the Rock Band 3 Wireless Fender Mustang PRO-Guitar Controller for Xbox 360 by MadCatz. It’s $92.99 down from $149.99 today, and has an “advanced tilt sensor for Overdrive activation.” Bring the noise!

Today’s shirt.w00t is entitled “The Perfect Moment,” and captures my life so succinctly: (more…)

“Create or Destroy” in new Ridge Racer Unbounded trailer

Namco Bandai’s Ridge Racer Unbounded appears to owe quite a debt to Criterion’s Burnout series. But it looks like Unbounded will also have some new options under the hood.

Dubbed “Create or Destroy,” players will be able to create their own city and then share those creations online. They can then destroy those cities during some absolutely wild races. For example, the Gamescom trailer above shows players driving through a mall, toppling the elevator inside and then crashing through the front door. Oh, and I’m sure that mall has everything.

Ridge Racer Unbounded will be released next year for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Mortal Kombat: Legacy webseries kollected on Blu-ray this November

Warner Premiere has announced that all nine webisodes of Mortal Kombat: Legacy will be coming to Blu-ray on November 8 (a DVD version wasn’t announced). Priced at a very wallet-friendly $19.99, the disc will include five documentaries to combat the even more wallet-friendly option of watching the series on YouTube right now. Those special features include:

  • Mortal Kombat Legacy: Fights – A look at the role “Fatalities” and hyper-violence play in the Mortal Kombat storytelling process. Included within the piece is a detailed exploration of the fights and stunts staged during the production of the web-series.
  • Mortal Kombat Legacy: Fan Made – Go inside the mind of Mortal Kombat super fan Kevin Tancharoen and uncover his passion and vision that brought Mortal Kombat: Legacy to life.
  • Mortal Kombat Legacy: Expanding The Netherrealm – Multi-chapter documentary brings the Mortal Kombat universe to life.
  • Mortal Kombat: Mysticism – Discover the powers that define the characters.
  • Mortal Kombat: Gear – Explore all the weapons that make Mortal Kombat fighting unique.

But as I said, if you’d prefer to watch the entire series for free, we’ve got you covered. Part one can be seen above with the rest of the episodes available at the Mortal Kombat: Legacy page.

Next Fallout: New Vegas DLC, Lonesome Road, delayed

According to the Bethesda Blog, the latest DLC for Fallout: New Vegas, Lonesome Road, has been delayed.

Senior Producer Jason Bergman had this to say about it:

“We just wanted to drop in here and let you know that due to circumstances beyond our control, Lonesome Road won’t be out this month. This isn’t due to any major issue with the code or content, but there are lots of factors involved in releasing these things, and one of those is causing us to slip past our intended release date.

We don’t have an exact date yet, but we’re working to get it out as quickly as possible. We’ll be announcing the final date, along with a couple of other interesting FNV-related items in the near future.”

Oh well. At least they gave us the shiny new screenshot above!

Filmmaker Ridley Scott working on Call of Duty Elite

Ridley Scott – most famous in my eyes for directing 1979’s Alien – will be working on the Call of Duty Elite episodic content. The CEO of Activision, Eric Hirschberg, revealed this today at the 13th Annual Pacific Crest Global Technology Leadership Forum. He also mentioned that Will Arnett, Jason Bateman, Ben Silverman, and Tony Scott will be involved.

Hirschberg said Activision is creating “exclusive episodic entertainment built just for the Call of Duty community… Just like any other passion that people spend a lot of their free time doing, Call of Duty players share a common language and a common experience, and we think we can create some entertainment content that they will love and talk about and share.”

Language? What is he talking about? Pfft. Well, I’m heading out to get some marshmallows to roast over the camping n00bs in CoDBlOps.

Call of Duty Elite is currently in beta for the Xbox 360. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be out on November 8 for all platforms.

Driver: San Francisco Hands-On Preview: Tanner the Body Snatcher

The Driver franchise has struggled mightily in the years since its 1999 debut. While the original game was a bonafide PlayStation classic, the successors to that title have ranged from decent (see Driver: Parallel Lines) to atrocious (the infamous Driver 3, take a bow!). For 2011’s Driver: San Francisco, developer Reflections and new publisher Ubisoft are going back to basics — it’s a straight up open-world driving game with racing, chases, and… post-coma body shifting. There’s a lot of interesting ideas at hand here, and after spending time with the brand new demo, I’m very curious as to how the final product will turn out. This could be the fresh start the series has needed for over a decade. (more…)
