Mr. Freeze tries to ice Batman in the latest Arkham City trailer
Cutting an imposing silhouette that bears a bit of a resemblance to BioShock‘s Big Daddy, Mr. Freeze says “ice to see you” in the latest Batman: Arkham City trailer. You should definitely give it a watch, it’s so cool.
OK, that’s enough icy puns for one article, I wouldn’t want you to give me the cold shoulder. Batman: Arkham City will be available for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 18.

New trailer for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will blow you away
The trailer for the latest in the Ace Combat series, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, has some powerful moments. In this “Full-Blown Assault,” we get to see some intense gameplay, including a massive battle going on just outside of Washington, DC. The music is pretty catchy, too – “Gotta stay fly, gotta stay strong.” I see what they did there.
Namco’s Ace Combat: Assault Horizon will be out on October 11 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Rage to jump on Online Pass wagon, but with a twist
Here’s a tidbit of info that will have more than a few gamers’ panties in a bunch: Rage is going to have some sections only available through an Online Pass redemption code.
Players who buy the game new will have access to hidden sewer hatches, id Creative Director Tim Willits told Eurogamer in a lengthy interview.
Here’s the part of the interview specifically detailing the use of the Online Pass:
Eurogamer: Everyone’s messing around with Online Pass.
Tim Willits: We have the first-time buyer stuff with all the sewers. You’ve played Rage five times. Have you found any sewer hatches?
Eurogamer: I did, out in the Wasteland.
Tim Willits: If you bought the game new, that would be open for you. You still have to download it, but you don’t have to pay for it. Those hatches are all over. Most people never find them. But as soon as you do, you’re like, oh. And then you start to look for it. That’s our first-time buyer incentive.
But as you can tell, most people never even see it. I can tell you, some people will buy Rage, download that, and still never set foot in those things. They just won’t. I think that’s fair. It’s cool. It’s outside the main path. We’re not detracting from anything. But I know some consumers, when you can’t avoid it, then you get a little touchy subject.
Eurogamer: I worry longer-term everything’s just going to get broken up into chunks.
Tim Willits: I don’t see that any time soon. Again, as long as you buy Rage new you get everything free. We’re not taking stuff out.
Another one bites the dust. Rage is scheduled to launch October 4 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Sonic 4 Episode 2 announcement coming “very soon”
Hey, remember that side-scrolling reboot of the Sonic series that Sega said would honor the hedgehog’s Genesis roots? And no, I’m not talking about the upcoming Sonic Generations. It’s easy to forget, but I’m actually talking about the episodic adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
Episode I was released in October of last year and in the ten months since, Sega has mentioned nary a peep about Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II. But, according to Sega West CEO Mike Hayes, an announcement concerning the downloadable game will arrive “very soon.” And actually, we should “look out for that one.”
Mike, buddy, I don’t want to tell you how to run your business, but if there’s nearly a year between the release of Episode I and the announcement of Episode II, that’s not an episodic release schedule. Just ask Gabe Newell.

Gotham City Impostors sneaks into Gamescom with new trailer
Monolith Productions has unveiled a new trailer for Gotham City Impostors in advance of next weekend’s Gamescom show. Promising that “customization is key,” the video showcases the many weapons and wearable items that players will be able to get their hands on in this whacked out version of Gotham City. Wait’ll they get a load of me, indeed.
The fun begins in the first few months of 2012 on the PC, PS3 (PlayStation Network) and Xbox 360 (Xbox Live Arcade).

Valve bringing Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to PC, PS3, Xbox 360

Get your crowbar ready because Valve has just announced a sequel to one of their most popular properties. That’s right, Half-Life 2: Episode Three Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be coming to the PC, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade during the first few months of 2012. This is good news and all, but maybe we can use those crowbars to “convince” Gabe Newell to start working on Episode Three.
A joint development between Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment, Global Offensive will “will expand upon the team-based action gameplay that [Counter-Strike] pioneered when it was launched exactly 12 years ago.” To that end, CS:GO will feature new maps, characters, and weapons alongside new gameplay modes, matchmaking, leaderboards, and more. But don’t think Valve has forgotten the past. Updated versions of classic CS maps, such as de_dust, will also be included in Global Offensive.
“For the past 12 years, [Counter-Strike] has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS:GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the PC as well as the next gen consoles and the Mac,” said Doug Lombardi of Valve.
Valve plans to bring a playable version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to this year’s PAX Prime at the end of August and the Eurogamer Expo in September.
