Holy pre-order, Batman! Robin officially added to Arkham City in Best Buy promo
Batman and Catwoman won’t be the only playable characters in this October’s Batman: Arkham City. Robin, The Boy Wonder, will be swinging into the game as well.
Gamers who pre-order Batman: Arkham City from Best Buy (on the PC, PS3 or Xbox 360) will receive exclusive access to the Tim Drake Robin Pack. WB Games had this to say about Robin:
“Robin will come complete with his own unique gadgets and special moves, and will be playable in all challenge maps in the game, as well as two additional challenge maps that are included with the pack – Black Mask Hideout and Freight Train Escape. The pack will also contain a bonus Red Robin character skin.”
So it looks like it’ll work exactly the same as the Joker Challenge Maps that were included with the GameStop pre-order of Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Daily Scoop: June 20, 2011 – Comic hangover
Here I am, exhausted with a smile on my face, hungover from how much fun I had at the convention. I got to see Adam Baldwin talk yesterday, and that was amazing! It made me want to go home and watch Jaynestown all over again.
Lots of great deals today! Ryan Littlefield’s obsession with Toys R Us pays off today, as he told me about this amazing sale: get any two of these games for $50. The list is:
- Brink
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- F.3.A.R.
- Mortal Kombat
- L.A. Noire
- Portal 2
The games are available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This is an AMAZING deal, especially considering F.3.A.R. isn’t even out yet. I mean, what?
Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is SVG Distribution’s Brunswick Pro Bowling for the Xbox 360. This Kinect-only game is $39.99 down from $49.99, and has “10 highly detailed bowling environments, each with unique lane characteristics” as well as “five game-play options including Exhibition, Skins and Tournament modes.” Word!
As for today’s daily t-shirt, well, I love dinosaurs, in case you couldn’t tell. Funny story: when I play multiplayer games with my microphone on, people can’t tell if I’m a girl or a 10-year-old boy. It doesn’t help that the emblem on my player card in Call of Duty: Black Ops is a t-rex. So yeah, it’s obvious why today’s shirt.w00t is so close to my heart:
The artist should totally make an anime con version of this shirt and call it “Glompasaurus Rex.” :D

Halo Anniversary will include Kinect support
Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft Game Studios, sat down with GameSpot AU at E3 2011 and confirmed that Kinect support will be included in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary:
“Obviously, as a first-party, we believe that Kinect will be important to all genres of games. Be it racing games like Forza, combat games like Ryse and even games like Halo: Anniversary has Kinect integration,” Spencer said.
With confirmation out of the way, now comes the fun part… speculation on just how Kinect support will work in Halo Anniversary. We’ll have all Summer to think about it as Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is scheduled for a November 15 release on the Xbox 360.

New Releases: FEAR 3, Dungeon Siege III, Shadows of the Damned, More

After multiple delays, FEAR 3 will be scaring gamers on the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this week. The game was developed by Day 1 Studios, who took over for original developer Monolith Soft. FEAR 3 will be joined in stores this week by another threequel that has switched developers: Dungeon Siege III (PC, PS3, Xbox 360). The Dungeon Siege series was originally created by Gas Powered Games but the third entry was developed by sequel specialists Obsidian Entertainment.
Sequels aren’t the only games releasing this week as EA will be bringing Shadows of the Damned to the PS3 and Xbox 360. A collaboration between Grasshoper Manufacture’s Suda 51 and Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, the hellbound tale will be nothing if not original. But for a complete change of pace, this week also sees the release of the movie-to-game adaptation Cars 2 (DS, PC, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360).
Check out the full list of the rest of this week’s new releases after the break. (more…)
FEAR 3 launch trailer is full of slow motion scares
After multiple delays, FEAR 3 will finally be available for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 next week. To celebrate, WB Games has released a launch trailer for the game which features some truly grotesque and frightful scenes.
If you’re not scared yet, you will be.
Mortal Kombat DLC priced; Kombat Pass announced
The good news: NetherRealm Studios plans to support Mortal Kombat with at least four downloadable characters.
The bad news: Each character will cost $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points).
Yup, publisher WB Games plans to perform a Fatality on your wallet with the DLC pricing for Mortal Kombat. But the company is offering a slight break to Xbox 360 owners in the form of the Kombat Pass. The pass offers players a $5 discount to download all four characters (Skarlet, Rain, Kenshi and “an unannounced new entrant”) for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15).
If you choose not to download the new characters (and I don’t blame you), NetherRealm will be releasing free compatibility packs to ensure the new characters play nice with the current characters in online play. These compatibility packs will also include two free Klassic skins, such as the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3-inspired Cyrax and Sektor skins found in the first pack.
Skarlet will be available to download on June 21 with Rain, Kenshi and the “unannounced new entrant” (which totally sounds like a new character to us) will be available later this Summer.

BioWare bringing Mass Effect 3’s “FemShep” to the masses
When promoting the Mass Effect trilogy, BioWare has never strayed far from the default look for the game’s protagonist, Commander Shepard. And that default has always been the male default, meaning players who like to play as “FemShep” never got a chance to see her in action in the game’s many trailers. According to David Silverman, Director of Marketing at BioWare, that’s all about to change for Mass Effect 3.
In a series of recent tweets, Silverman has confirmed that a trailer starring a female Shepard is in the works. “FemShep” will even get a chance to be a cover girl as the Mass Effect 3 Collector’s Edition will feature both versions of Shepard on the box.
Here’s what Silverman had to say about the future of “FemShep”:
there will be a #FemShep trailer. We actually had a meeting on her yesterday. We are working on the look now.
– June 14the CE of #ME3 has both #FemShep and male Shepard on the box.
– June 12
Mass Effect 3 will be released for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 6, 2012.
