Complete list of all Redbox games; nationwide rentals begin today

The time has arrived, video game rentals are now available at Redbox machines across the country. Beginning today, gamers will be able to rent a variety of PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 titles for $2 a day. After 30 days (and $60 in total rental fees), the game will be yours to keep.

Users can visit Redbox.com/games to browse a list of games available at their local kiosks as well as reserve a game for pickup right from the website. The initial inventory includes 38 different titles which run the gamut from family friendly shovelware to the latest hardcore games, such as Duke Nukem Forever, Infamous 2 and Red Faction: Armageddon. Multi-disc games will not be available at Redbox kiosks, so the PS3 version of L.A. Noire made the cut while the Xbox 360 version did not.

You can view the complete list of games available to rent from Redbox after the break. (more…)

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron Hands-On Preview: A Biblical Tale You Want to Play

Published and developed by Ignition Entertainment, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is an action game inspired by the apocryphal Book of Enoch. The player – as Enoch – tries to prevent the fallen angels from bringing the flood. A biblical tale may not sound like an exciting premise for a video game, but if you add in gameplay like Devil May Cry, the art style of Okami, and a modern-day take on the characters (Lucifel contacts God on a cell phone, and Enoch’s only wearing a pair of designer jeans under his armor), you’ve got a recipe for the sleeper hit of the summer. Activision unveils Annihilation map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops

Confirming everything from yesterday’s leak, Activision has announced that the third map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops will be available to download from the Xbox Live Marketplace on June 28. As always, the pack will be priced at 1200 Microsoft Points ($15).

The CoD: Black Ops Annihilation Map Pack will consist of four multiplayer maps (Hangar 18, Drive-In, Silo and Hazard) and a new “Zombies experience” known as Shangri-La.

“Shangri-La [is] an exotic and mysterious map filled with deadly traps, dark secrets and innovative gameplay that will challenge even the most daring zombie hunters,” said Treyarch Studio Head, Mark Lamia.

If you plan on picking up the map pack, you might also want to know Activision plans to pair it with a Double XP Weekend beginning Friday, July 1.

The Annihilation Map Pack will also be released for the PC and PS3 at a later date.

Official Batman: Arkham City box art released

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has unveiled the official box art for Batman: Arkham City. Continuing the whitewashed aesthetic that has been the game’s trademark since it was announced, the cover shows Batman ready to dispense some Gotham City justice on some poor soul’s face. And he’s got the bloody knuckles to prove it. If you want a closer look at the box art, just click on the image to your left.

Batman: Arkham City will be released for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on October 18. A Wii U version is also in the works.

Sega Rally Online Arcade Review: Very Short, Easy Game… Maybe?

The last time consoles saw the Sega Rally franchise, it was 2007. The first and only product from the now-defunct Sega Racing Studio, Sega Rally Revo was a challenging, pretty, and unusually deep attempt at arcade-style off-road racing. The game didn’t fare very well – an unfortunate circumstance likely due to the declining interest in racing games this console cycle. Four years later, the franchise returns to gaming platforms as the download-only Sega Rally Online Arcade. A stripped-down game based heavily on the engine used in Sega Rally Revo, the game captures the loose, arcadey gameplay the series is known for. Due to its heritage, it’s one of the better looking racing games for any console’s downloadable game service. At $10 SROA is definitely affordable, but keep in mind you have to be an avid online player to get the most out of it. (more…)

Leaked photo details Call of Duty: Black Ops map pack #3

Black Ops 24/7 reports that a leaked photo, possibly from promotional materials, has outed some of the details of a third DLC map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops. The poster lists four multiplayer maps in a similar style to the Escalation pack: Hanger 18, Hazard, Drive-In, Silo, and an unreadable new Zombies level. The advertisement seems to be one of GameStop’s, as the text “downloadable content is better at GameStop,” can be seen above the map captures.

This would continue the precedent set in Call of Duty: World at War, making Treyarch the CoD studio that supports its games with three healthy doses of DLC. I imagine it’ll be hard to top Call of the Dead, but I’m excited to get into the new multiplayer maps.

Mortal Kombat Skarlet DLC on 6/21; Rain, Kenshi, unnamed third character confirmed

Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios confirm that the new Mortal Kombat DLC featuring Skarlet, the character who once was a glitch, will be available for download on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on June 21. The trailer above gives her character a little background and teases what’s in store for her (or anyone getting in her way). Also, the ending confirms Rain, Kenshi, and an unnamed third kombatant will be joining the roster in further DLC updates this summer.

We loved Mortal Kombat in our review, and can’t wait to jump back into the action with these new characters.
