Sega adds Nightmare and Novice difficulty levels to Alien: Isolation

Creative Assembly has said time and again that the guiding design principle behind Alien: Isolation is that the Xenomorph should be thought of as an unstoppable force of nature that cannot be killed. Instead, the developer went back to the roots of the film franchise and encouraged players to evade the star beast and pray they remain undetected.
But things are about to get much easier for all the Alien: Isolation players out there as Sega and Creative Assembly have made a new “Novice” difficulty level available as part of the game’s latest update. But what if you’re part of the vocal contingent that wants the Xenomorph to be more diabolical and even harder to hide from? You might be interested in the brand new “Nightmare” difficulty level that makes things considerably tougher:
One of the most requested features from fans, Nightmare Mode ramps up the difficulty to a frightening level. Gamers with a strong disposition are challenged to venture into Sevastopol Station with a broken motion tracker featuring a distorted display and unreliable information. Resources are limited, androids and survivors are more deadly and the map systems have gone offline. The Alien AI has been upgraded, ramping up its aggression to punishing levels. It’s more adaptive, learning players’ tactics faster, has heightened senses and will give players no ‘second chance’ encounters. Nightmare Mode is the ultimate Alien experience.
The “Novice” and “Nightmare” difficulty levels are part of a free update that is available today for Alien: Isolation on every platform (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One).

Paul McCartney’s involvement was one of the first things we officially learned about Bungie’s Destiny. Since then, those that have played the game have discovered that the ex-Beatle is responsible for the game’s main theme, “Hope For the Future.”
Yesterday, Sir Paul released a music video of the song for everyone to enjoy and it’s… well… let’s just say Obi-Wan Kenobi would be proud.
The video drops McCartney onto the surface of Mars and Venus while characters from the game sit back and listen to his performance. There’s no lighters, but then, there’s no McCartney either. He appears in the video as a hologram that looks an awful lot like Alec Guinness in Star Wars.
The timing couldn’t have been better as Destiny’s first expansion, The Dark Below, is available to download today.
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel Review: Literally Borderlands 1.5 in Every Way

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of the Borderlands franchise. I’ve played the first two games for hundreds of hours, and I briefly considered getting Borderlands 2 for the Vita. I was thrilled to find out that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel would fill the gaps between the two games, allowing you to play as Handsome Jack’s cronies and detailing how he came to power. 2K Australia took over on development, working with Gearbox to create the game, and it shows.The Pre-Sequel was rife with glitches, had a weak storyline, and was generally not as fun as the second game. Quality-wise, it felt more like the first, and, at best, could be considered a giant DLC pack. And it’s definitely not worth 2K’s $60 asking price. (more…)
King’s Quest returns on the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One in Fall 2015
King’s Quest is being remade and returning to the PC and consoles in Fall of 2015. The game is being developed by The Odd Gentleman and will be published under Activision’s Sierra label. This charming trailer, which was revealed at last night’s Game Awards, has revealed that the game will bring “a contemporary new take on the classic adventure game series with a creative new art style, puzzles, and story,” according to the Activision Blog.
Keep an eye out for King’s Quest, which will be coming to PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in the Fall of 2015.

Borderlands: Pre-Sequel DLC expansion The Holodome Onslaught available on December 16
Gearbox has announced the “second batch of add-on content” for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. It’s called the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack: The Holodome Onslaught, and it will be coming to the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on December 16. It will also up the level cap to 60, and additionally, all players will get a free update that will allow Ultimate Vault Hunter mode, what fans of the franchise will recognize as the third playthrough.
The Holodome Onslaught add-on pack, which is the second of four included in the Season Pass, will cost $9.99 on its own. It features “all-new narrative content including appearances from veteran Vault Hunters Gaige and Axton, who recently returned to the Crimson Raiders HQ.” As Athena narrates, players will make their way through The Holodome Onslaught, which will include new enemies and familiar faces. There will also be new weapons, class mods, head mods, and skins.
The first add-on pack was a new playable character, the Handsome Jack Doppelganger Pack. The third is expected be another player character, the Baroness, while the fourth promises to (finally) be a substantial new campaign expansion. There’s no scheduled release date on the other two packs yet.

Bandai Namco wants you to go for a motorcycle Ride in Spring 2015
Bandai Namco has teamed up with developer Milestone to bring Ride, which is a “complete motorcycle racing simulator,” to North America. Players will be able to choose from more than 100 motorcycles and take their pick of circuits – ride through the city, the country, or check out “historic tracks from the world of motorcycling.” There will be four different categories of motorcycles available – Historical, Naked, Superbikes, and Supersports. You will also be able to customize both your vehicle and your rider.
Chris Gilbert, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Bandai Namco, said, “With Ride, Milestone has captured the quintessential motorcycle racing experience, with a huge selection of bikes, tracks and customization… With so much content, coupled with true-to-life racing simulation, motorcycle fans will finally have the next-gen racer they’ve been waiting for, and gamers of all stripes can experience the adrenaline rush of the redline.”
Ride will be coming to the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One in Spring 2015. It’s also playable right now (and all weekend) at the PlayStation Experience in Las Vegas.
Dragon Age: Inquisition wins Game of the Year at 2014 Game Awards

The inaugural Game Awards was held last night in Las Vegas. In between all the major announcements for future releases, Geoff Keighley and crew managed to hand out awards in 16 categories honoring 11 of 2014’s best games.
BioWare’s Dragon Age: Inquisition took home “Game of the Year” honors as well as “Best Role Playing Game.” Three other games took home two awards including Mario Kart 8 (“Best Family Game” and “Best Sports/Racing Game”), Valiant Hearts: The Great War (“Best Narrative” and “Games For Change”), and Destiny (“Best Score/Soundtrack” and “Best Online Experience”).
In addition to Mario Kart 8’s two wins, Nintendo also collected the “Developer of the Year” award and “Best Fighting Game” for Super Smash Bros. For Wii U. The consolemaker’s four wins were matched by Ubisoft who matched Valiant Hearts’ two awards with wins in “Best Shooter” (Far Cry 4) and “Best Performance” (Trey Parker as Various Voices in South Park: The Stick of Truth).
Other winners include Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor (“Best Action/Adventure”), Shovel Knight (“Best Independent Game”), Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft (“Best Mobile/Handheld”), and Grand Theft Auto V (“Best Remaster”).
