The A-Z of E3 2017: Warp Zoned’s Full Recap of Gaming’s Biggest Showcase

The 2017 E3 Expo was one of firsts. It was the first time that gaming’s biggest showcase was open to the public, and the first time that developers sat down for panel discussions in the E3 Coliseum.
It was also a show of firsts for us here at Warp Zoned. We premiered the first two episodes of our Content Crash podcast (Episode #1: The Eve of E3 2017 and Episode #2: The E3 2017 Recap), and asked “So Did Anyone “Win” the 2017 E3 Expo?” for the first time.
But we also got our first glimpse at how the game industry will be shaping up this Fall and into 2018. The Xbox One X is going to make everything a little prettier, but Nintendo wants to make everything a little weirder. And Sony just wants to make all our Spider-Man dreams come true. So read on for a full recap of this year’s E3 Expo, and to learn more about what we thought of this year’s biggest games-to-be. (more…)
343 Industries has no plans to unveil Halo 6 in 2017

Microsoft doesn’t want to talk about the far-flung future right now. All the games on display at the consolemaker’s E3 Press Conference are set to launch fairly soon, and that meant there was no room to talk about Halo 6 on gaming’s big stage.
According to Jeff Easterling, “GrimBrother One” at 343 Industries, that stance won’t be changing anytime soon. Writing on Halo Waypoint, Easterling revealed that Microsoft and 343 Industries have no plans to talk about Halo 6 at all this year:
That being said, for some people – like most who are still reading this blog – the Xbox media briefing was bandied about as much for what it didn’t show, as what it did. Specifically, a new (or old-made-new) Halo title. For some folks, their despair stemmed from a lack of remastered fight-finishing. I know I know, we should have told you ahead of time to not expect anything like that. Others were hoping for a tease of things farther off to come. While there’s little to nothing that can be said on that front, it’s been made clear that we won’t be talking about Halo’s next major title for quite some time. And no, that doesn’t mean Gamescom. Or PAX. Trust us, when we’re ready to begin pulling back that proverbial curtain, you’ll know. It won’t be soon.
Halo Wars 2was released earlier this year, and is the most recent addition to the vast Halo franchise. A new expansion for Halo Wars 2, Awakening the Nightmare, was unveiled at E3 2017, and it’ll be available this Fall.

WWE 2K18’s cover will feature wrestler Seth Rollins
This year’s “Hey, You Know E3 Was Last Week, Right?” Award goes to 2K Games, who inexplicably announced a handful of details about WWE 2K18 today… including the reveal of cover athlete Seth Rollins.
“As the WWE 2K18 cover Superstar and franchise ambassador, it is my incredible honor and mission to ensure this game will truly BE LIKE NO ONE – a calling card perfect for everything I stand for – as it sets forth on its own unique path,” said Rollins. “Following in the footsteps of other WWE 2K cover Superstars – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Brock Lesnar – I now carry the torch and proudly represent a new generation of WWE Superstars. I am the future, and the future can’t be stopped.”
2K Games announced that WWE 2K18 will also be released in a special Collector’s Edition, as well as a feature-packed Deluxe Edition. Details about the Collector’s Edition will be released at a later date, but the Deluxe Edition will include exclusive packaging, the Season Pass, and to-be-announced in-game content available at launch.
WWE 2K18 will be released for the PS4 and Xbox One on October 17. But players who purchase the Deluxe Edition or Collector’s Edition will receive their copy of the game four days early on Friday, October 13.
Gun Media is adding Jason’s retro-tastic purple-and-blue look to Friday the 13th
Gun Media and Illfonic’s Friday the 13th has been plagued by server connection problems since its launch last month.
As an apology, the publisher and developer have revealed that the game’s first Content Update will include a special treat for fans… a “Retro Jason” costume patterned after his blue-skinned appearance in the infamous NES game from LJN. Naturally, the iconic slasher will also be dressed in his stylish purple jumpsuit as well.
The free update will be available beginning June 20, and it’ll also include two new Outfits for each Counselor, 13,000 Customization Points, and a new chiptune soundtrack from composer Mitch Murder.
In addition to all this “Cool Free Shit,” Friday the 13th players will also get the chance to take part in a Double XP Weekend from June 23rd through the 25th.

Content Crash #2: The E3 2017 Recap
Welcome to the second episode of the Content Crash podcast. I am your host, Dan Hartnack, and I am here this time with my friend, Keno Eastmond.
We just had a huge week wrapping up, [Thursday] was the last day of E3 2017 and there was a lot to get to. We had the conferences starting all the way back on Saturday with EA, and then Microsoft Sunday, Bethesda Sunday, and then a whole bunch on Monday including Sony, the PC Gaming Show, Ubisoft, and wrap it all up with Nintendo on Tuesday. And then, you know, little things in-between.
I think it was a pretty packed show for the most part. There was a lot of things I liked. But anyway, we’re just going to get into it, and go down the line to discuss what we saw at each conference. We’ve got a lot of games… it was all about the games this year… as it should be every year…

New Retail Releases: Ever Oasis, Runbow Pocket, Dead By Daylight, More

Nintendo is back at the top of the New Retail Release report this week with another new game for their handheld, as well as a handful of new third party titles for their surging pair of systems.
Ever Oasis is a brand new action RPG from Koichi Ishii, the creator of the Mana series. Players will need to venture out into the desert and protect (and rebuild) the last safe oasis in the world. If you own a New 3DS, you’ll also be able to pick up 13AM’s Runbow Pocket: Deluxe Edition this week. The platform racer was originally released for the Wii U in 2015, and this new portable edition includes the base game and all the previously-released downloadable content.
Speaking of platformers, Nicalis will bring Cave Story+ to the Switch with upgraded high definition graphics, seven game modes, and 15 levels to explore.
Elsewhere in your local game store you’ll find Dead By Daylight, an asymmetrical horror simulator for the PS4 and Xbox One. One player will be able to take control of the Killer, while others will fight to live as Survivors. One… two… a copyright-adjacent boogeyman is coming for you…
A faster getaway would probably be available to the drivers in MXGP 3, the latest motorcycle racing game from Square Enix and Milestone. MXGP 3 will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and players will be able to race through the complete 2016 season.
And speaking of Square Enix, the Japanese publisher will expand their MMORPG this week with the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood for the PC and PS4. The expansion will include a variety of new content including new Raids, new Jobs, and an increased Level Cap.
Another Japanese publisher, NIS America, will also release a new RPG this week. God Wars: Future Past is coming to the PS4 and Vita, and its a tactical RPG that combies traditional Japanese folklore with a unique art style based on watercolor and wood carving art.
Finally this week, a Retail Edition of Cities: Skylines will be available for the Xbox One exclusively through GameStop.

So Did Anyone “Win” the 2017 E3 Expo?

E3 2017 proved to be something of a musical affair, with every company trying to out-do the others in audio superiority. Microsoft had a mournful piano solo to accompany the reveal of Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Ubisoft had a drumline. EA also had a drumline. Sony kicked their Press Conference off with a bizarre melody of Indian music and light projections on a waterfall. And halfway through its show, an android introduced the trailer for Detroit: Become Human with the voice of an angel.
Usually, you can add the question, “who won E3,” to this aural bombardment. And just as often, it is a question without an answer. But what about this year? Let’s find out. (more…)
