New Retail Releases: Final Fantasy XV, Super Mario Maker For 3DS, Steep, More

After ten years of hard work (and a name change and a platform shift), Square Enix is finally ready to unleash Final Fantasy XV on the world. Set to launch this week for the PS4 and Xbox One, the game follows Noctis and his friends in a world of magic and technology that’s on the brink of war. It’s a pretty standard setting for the Final Fantasy franchise, but its epic development period certainly adds an extra layer of intrigue to things.
A number of other games will be available on store shelves this week, but none of them have the same level of hype.
Of course, that’s probably exactly how Nintendo would like fans to look at Super Mario Maker For Nintendo 3DS. The level editor is slightly shrunk down from its Wii U debut (levels can no longer be uploaded online, for example), but players will still be able share levels locally, and the brand new Medal Challenge looks interesting.
Ubisoft has a trio of new games available in stores this including the extreme sports simulation Steep (which includes skiing, snowboarding, paragliding, and wingsuiting) for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Open world hackathon Watch Dogs 2 will make its PC debut this week, and The Crew: Ultimate Edition will collect the original game and all of its downloadable content into a single package on the PS4 and Xbox One.
Finally this week, PQube will release the time-bending visual novel SteinsGate 0 for the PS4 and Vita.
The full list of this week’s new retail releases can be found after the break. (more…)

Black Friday has arrived, so I hope your wallet is ready for the deal-splosion happening at Amazon today.

Xbox Store Today: Darksiders Warmastered, Batman: The Telltale Series – Episode 4
We’re getting closer to the end of the year, and new releases are starting to dry up. Which probably explains why the Xbox Games Store received only two new additions today.
First up is Darksiders: Warmastered Edition, an Xbox One re-release for the apocalyptic action RPG. Originally released for the Xbox 360 in 2010, the Warmastered Edition of Darksiders offers enhanced graphics, 60FPS gameplay, and brand new “post processing effects.”
Also available for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 this week is Batman: The Telltale Series – Episode 4: Guardian of Gotham, the latest chapter in Telltale’s retelling of Bruce Wayne earliest days beneath the cowl. This time, players will have to help Bruce escape from the not-so-friendly confines of Arkham Asylum… thankfully, he’s got a smiling friend to help him out.
More information about both games can be found after the break. (more…)
Lego City Undercover will slide onto the Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One in Spring 2017

Lego City Undercover helped establish the Wii U as a place for interesting all-ages software back in 2013. Now, WB Games has confirmed the open world title will make a return engagement for the upcoming launch of Nintendo’s next console. Described by many as “Grand Theft Auto For Kids,” a port of Lego City Undercover is currently in development for the Switch, and it’ll be released for Nintendo’s console/handheld hybrid next Spring.
Not only will Nintendo fans get a chase to relive the adventures of Chase McCain, but according to this tweet, the game will also be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One:

The Nintendo Switch will launch in March 2017, and Nintendo plans to fully unveil their next console during a special livestream presentation on January 12.
First episode of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier will be released on December 20

It looks like Telltale fans will have to shamble into December to get their next Walking Dead fix. Today, the developer announced that the (currently untitled) first episode of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier will premiere on December 20.
Like with Telltale’s previous games, fans will be able to download it for a large number of platforms including the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and mobile devices. Telltale also announced that everyone who pre-orders A New Frontier on the PS4 will also receive The Walking Dead Season 2 and The Walking Dead: Michonne for free.
The digital downloads will be followed by the release of a Season Pass Disc for the PS4 and Xbox One on February 7. The Season Pass Disc will include the first episode of the season, along with downloadable access to all subsequent episodes as they become available.
When family is all you have left… how far will you go to protect it? Four years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to find the family taken from him, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last.
Telltale debuted A New Frontier’s first trailer this past Summer at the E3 Expo, but they plan to give fans a closer look at the game during this year’s Game Awards on December 1.

Get the 101 on Final Fantasy XV in this new trailer ahead of its launch next week
After more than a decade in development, Square Enix is finally getting ready to release Final Fantasy XV. The sprawling RPG will be available for the PS4 and Xbox One on November 29, but first, the publisher has unveiled a new 101 Trailer to better acquaint prospective players with the world of Eos.
Over the course of nine minutes, Final Fantasy XV’s 101 Trailer will introduce players to the game’s storyline, characters, environments, Summons, mini-games, magic spells, and a whole lot more.
Square Enix also announced that a special “Crown Update” for Final Fantasy XV will be available to download on November 29. This patch will provide “a variety of updates, minor bug fixes and new features to greatly enhance the overall story and gameplay experience”:
Final Fantasy XV’s “Crown Update”
- Improvements to the camera with new options to better assist and track the action in tight space and to improve visibility during battles
- New event scenes and scenes from Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV and the “Omen” trailer have also been added to the game to make the story and timeline of events easier to follow for newcomers
- The addition of an ability tree for the “Wait Mode” function which improves the strategic element of this feature
- Players can obtain the “Beast Whistle” which can be used to call monsters to battle
- A wider variety of recipes and fish with an addition of a gallery for completionist players who enjoy collecting items
- Implementation of social media support, allowing the photos Prompto takes along your journey to be uploaded to Facebook and Twitter
Originally known as Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and first announced at E3 2006, Final Fantasy XV has been a labor of love for Square Enix and Director Hajime Tabata. A part of me almost can’t believe its launch date is just a week away.

Black Friday Game Deals 2016: Xbox Games Store (11/18 – 11/28)
I have a confession to make… I don’t like crowds. So as you can imagine, trying to find a bargain on Black Friday is not something I look forward to. Thankfully, Microsoft is discounting more than 100 Xbox One and Xbox 360 games through the Xbox Games Store this week… and I won’t even need to leave my couch.
Microsoft isn’t revealing their full slate of Black Friday discounts just yet, but Xbox One owners will be able to pick up Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition, and Fallout 4 on November 25 for cheap.
However, Xbox owners won’t need to wait for Black Friday to start seeing most of the sale prices. Most games will go on sale beginning November 22, and Xbox Live Gold subscribers will get additional discounts and early access to the deals starting on November 18.
So head over to the Xbox Games Store now if you’re in the market for a good deal on Battlefield 1, Overwatch, Batman: The Telltale Series, FIFA 17, Grand Theft Auto V, Life Is Strange, Mafia III, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and dozens of other titles.
You can find the full list of discounted titles after the break. (more…)
