Techland celebrates 180 days of Dying Light DLC and teases future addition of vehicles

While Deep Silver continues to struggle to get Dead Island 2 off the ground, Techland has moved on to Dying Light, which was released to great fanfare back in January. Since then, the developer has continually updated the zombie game through a series of DLC drops. In a newly released trailer, Techland wanted to familiarize everyone with all of this content, which includes…

  • Expansions such as The Bozak Horde, Cuisine & Cargo, Parkour Fever, and Quarantine Zones 2.0.
  • Costume and weapon packs such as the Ultimate Survivor Bundle, Gold Weapons, Crazy New Weapons, and the more than 50 Skins found in Character Outfits.
  • Modding tools like the Developer Tools Game Editor.
  • Additional modes and gameplay tweaks like Hard Mode and the Be the Zombie Mutations.
  • And one-time only events like the superpowers everyone received on April Fool’s Day.

The trailer closes with a tease of Techland’s next big addition to Dying Light… vehicles.

“We’re really excited to finally be able to show this major project we’ve been secretly working on since the release of the game,” said Tymon Smektala, Producer of Dying Light. “This is Dying Light from totally new angle, but with everything fans love about the original still at the core.”

Techland will show off Dying Light’s vehicles expansion at this year’s Gamescom expo, which will be held in Cologne, Germany beginning on August 5.

Most retailers have removed Mighty No. 9’s September 15 release date… is it delayed?

mightynonine-header

After signing a publishing deal with Deep Silver, Keiji Inafune’s Mighty No. 9 was given a September 15 release date by the publisher for its launch on the PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U Xbox 360, and Xbox One. But now it appears that that release date is in jeopardy as nearly every major video game retailer has changed the game’s release date to a placeholder date of “December 31, 2016” instead.

The placeholder release date, which strongly suggests a delay for Mighty No. 9, is currently shown on Amazon, GameStop, Walmart, and Newegg. However, the game’s original release date is still listed at Target and Best Buy. So hope is not lost.

VideoGamer attempted to get to the bottom of this by contacting Deep Silver, but the publisher declined to comment. Uh oh, I think I lost that hope. Can someone help me find it?

Hopefully Deep Silver or Keiji Inafune and his team at Comcept will clear up Mighty No. 9’s release date soon.

Alex Morgan, Christine Sinclair, Stephanie Catley, others join Messi on FIFA 16’s cover

fifa16-alexmorganFIFA 16 will become one of the first games to include female teams and players when its released this Fall. But EA Sports isn’t stopping there. In another first, the publisher also plans to include a trio of stars from the 2015 Women’s World Cup on the game’s cover as part of its series of region-specific covers for the game.

FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi is the “featured” cover athlete, and he will share the spotlight with the following footballers:

  • Alex Morgan, a Forward on the World Cup champion Women’s National Team, will appear on the cover in the US.
  • Our neighbor to the North, Canada, will receive a cover featuring Christine Sinclair, the Canadian team’s Captain.
  • Stephanie Catley will sprint alongside Messi on the Australian cover, along with a player to be named later on August 13.
  • The United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland will see Liverpool FC’s Jordan Henderson on the cover.
  • C.D. Guadalajara’s Marco Fabian will break out of the midfield as the cover athlete for Mexico.
  • Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid will represent his home nation on the French cover.
  • Chelsea FC’s Juan Cuadrado will appear on the cover throughout Latin America.
  • Finally, Borussia Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa will grace the cover in Japan.

“It is an incredible honor to be one of the first women featured on the cover of FIFA 16,” said Alex Morgan. “I know people all over the world play this game and I’m really excited that FIFA 16 is putting such an important spotlight on women’s soccer. And now to share the cover with today’s greatest player is surreal.”

“This year’s World Cup showcased the unbelievable talent and skill in women’s soccer,” added Christine Sinclair. “I’m thrilled that EA Sports is celebrating female athletes in FIFA 16. To be featured in the game and to promote women’s soccer with Alex is really special and another exciting step for women in sports.”

FIFA 16 will be available for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 22. You can view all nine covers (including Messi’s solo cover) at the official FIFA 16 website.

Does Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes reference Kojima leaving Konami?

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes has been out for over a year now, and it seems to keep providing Easter eggs. One major Easter egg that may hint at the recent strife between Konami and Director Hideo Kojima was recently found by YouTube user “timeSplitter88.”

In the Metal Gear Solid throwback mission “Deja Vu,” you’re given a weapon with a blue light that erases words found throughout the level. Those words aren’t random though, they’re all past titles and logos from Metal Gear’s history.

Hideo Kojima had nothing to do with some of those games, such as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance or Metal Gear Acid, so they can’t be erased by the light. However, the ones designed by Kojima, such as Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, can be erased. Once you’ve deleted all the titles created by Hideo Kojima, players get a message from Kaz reminding them to cherish their memories. Kojima himself then comes on the com to thank you for your support.

The “Deja Vu” mission has been available since the release of the game, originally exclusive to PlayStation consoles before coming to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One several months later. But it seems that no one put together the possible hidden meaning of erasing all the titles until now. It seems likely that everyone at Kojima Productions knew they were getting the boot months before the information became public.

Since the release of Ground Zeroes, Konami has removed “A Hideo Kojima Game” from all marketing and packaging for both Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. No one outside of Konami knows why this messy divorce is happening, though I’ve got a good feeling once it becomes official after the release of The Phantom Pain, Kojima won’t remain silent for long.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released on September 1.

Tremor will shake up Mortal Kombat X beginning tomorrow

Many seismologists believe that earthquake prediction is impossible. Someone at NetherRealm Studios clearly agrees as the developer has announced they’ll unleash Tremor, the fourth (and currently final), downloadable character for Mortal Kombat X much sooner than expected.

Kombat Pass owners will be able to download Tremor, along with Klassic Skins Pack 2, beginning tomorrow, July 21. Everyone else will get a crack at the character on July 28 as a standalone download ($4.99) or in a bundle with Klassic Skins Pack 2 ($7.99). The Skins Pack, which includes “klassic” duds for Kung Lao, Quan Chi, and Jax, will also be available by itself for $3.99.

Tremor first appeared in 2000’s Mortal Kombat: Special Forces, and has been a fan favorite ever since. It was these fans that encouraged NetherRealm to make Tremor a fully playable character for the first time in Mortal Kombat X. Able to control the earth itself, a trailer starring the latest incarnation of Tremor was unveiled during this weekend’s EVO event. It’s been embedded above.

New Releases: Wolfenstein: Old Blood, Zombie Army Trilogy, Onechanbara Z2, F1 2015

newreleases072115

Two, count ’em, two games about fighting the undead in the waning days of World War II will be available on stores this week. And, interestingly enough, both are currently available to download through digital storefronts. The public has spoken, and they want discs!

Wolfenstein: The Old Blood brings B.J. Blazkowicz back to the frontlines on the PS4 and Xbox One. As a prequel to last year’s Wolfenstein: The New Order, Blazkowicz will get to do some 1940s-style Nazi hunting, but he’ll also tangle with an entire village of zombies. Ach du lieber!

But Blazkowicz won’t be fighting alone as Zombie Hitler himself is behind the undead shenanigans in Zombie Army Trilogy for the PS4 and Xbox One. A standalone spinoff of Sniper Elite III, Zombie Army Trilogy is a team-based game where the Allies have to stop this final solution for Nazi world domination. Ach du lieber, wieder!

A third round of zombie hunting is available to shoppers this week in Onechanbara Z2: Chaos for the PS4. Published by XSEED, Onechanbara Z2 features the further adventures of the “bikini zombie squad,” a group of Japanese sisters who kill zombies with swords while wearing bikinis… obviously.

Finally this week, Codemasters will release F1 2015, the latest Formula 1 racing sim, and first to be released for the PS4 and Xbox One. If you love open wheel racing, this is the game for you. But sorry, no zombies.
