Microsoft reveals first details of Xbox One exclusive D4 at TGS 2013

d4-header

The Tokyo Game Show might just be a memory now, but did you know Microsoft used the Japanese games showcase to introduce Swery65’s episodic Xbox One game, D4, to the world? Briefly glimpsed at this year’s E3 Expo, Microsoft revealed that its full title will be D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die and that the game will make extensive use of the Kinect sensor.

Microsoft’s Xbox Wire went straight to Swery65 to learn more about the enigmatic game:

Can you tell us a bit more about the story and core gameplay mechanics?

Swery65: The main character of the story is David Young, a private detective. Two years ago, someone killed his wife. He lost his memories of the incident, but in exchange, he received the ability to travel into the past. He uses this ability to crack cases to lead him closer to the truth about his wife’s death, and if possible, to find a way to save her life.

As I said, you’ll definitely want to hop over to the Xbox Wire if you want to learn how D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die uses the Kinect sensor.

Ubisoft has released Just Dance 2014’s full tracklist

justdance2014-ghostbusters

Ubisoft has released the complete tracklist for Just Dance 2014 and it includes all the songs the kids are into these days like Ray Parker Jr.’s “Ghostbusters,” Mungo Jerry’s “In the Summertime,” and The Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.”

OK, the kids today are probably more interested in Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” and Lady Gaga’s “Applause.” But points to Ubisoft for including a few tracks that people over 21 can appreciate.

You can dance the night away with Just Dance 2014 when it’s released for the PS3, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360 on October 8. A next-generation edition for the PS4 and Xbox One will follow in November.

And you can view the full 45-song soundtrack after the break. (more…)

New Killer Instinct trailer introduces Sadira, reintroduces B. Orchid

After a bit of teasing, Microsoft has pulled back the curtain on the first original fighter to join Killer Instinct, which will be available for the Xbox One as a digital download on November 22.

As we glimpsed in an earlier trailer, Sadira is part-Baraka (she has claws that she uses in close quarters combat and as projectile weapons) and part-Spider-Man (she has spider powers). She also may or may not have a harem. The trailer above wasn’t too clear on that.

What was clear was the stinger at the end, which revealed fan favorite B. Orchid would also join the game as part of the “Season One” character set. Jago, Sabrewulf, Glacius, and Chief Thunder were revealed earlier, so the game’s roster of eight still has two fighters unaccounted for.

Fingers crossed for Fulgore.

New Crimson Dragon trailer looks to fill your alien dragon quota nicely

The Tokyo Game Show trailer for Crimson Dragon doesn’t open with this narration, but it may as well have:

“After the Earth was used up, we found a new solar system and a new Earth. We named the planet Draco… and then we discovered that it’s full of alien dragons and an alien Moby Dick that wants to eat us! Seriously, what are the odds?”

Crimson Dragon will be available during the Xbox One’s launch exclusively from the Xbox Games Store. The storyline might be a bit of a stretch, but its the spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon Saga and it looks to share more than a little DNA with Star Fox 64. If you’re starving for a new rail shooter, I recommend watching this trailer again and again until November 22.

Mighty No. 9 reaches PS3/Xbox 360/Wii U stretch goal

mightynonine-header

The Kickstarter campaign for Keiji Inafune’s Mighty No. 9 has reached a huge funding milestone. Shortly before midnight, the total pledged amount crossed $2.2 million, ensuring that the spiritual successor to Mega Man will be released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U. The console editions of Mighty No. 9 join the previously confirmed PC version (which also includes Mac and Linux options) and all versions of the game are expected to be completed by Spring 2015.

There’s still two weeks remaining before Mighty No. 9’s Kickstarter campaign is closed to new pledges. That leaves plenty of time to cross the PS4/Xbox One threshold, which is currently set at $3.3 million.

Microsoft has had “conversations” with Activision about Geometry Wars 3

geometrywars-header

It’s likely that everyone who has ever owned an Xbox 360 has gotten sucked into Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved at one time or another. The addictive twin-stick shooter from Bizarre Creations was hailed by many as the best game available at the console’s launch and its sequel, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, was even better.

The general public assumed that the series was over after Bizarre closed its doors in 2011. But Microsoft’s Phil Spencer doesn’t want the dream to die. Tweets from the Xbox Division’s Corporate VP reveal Spencer has been in talks with Activision (the current holder of the rights to Geometry Wars) about the possibility of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 3:

Take it with a huge grain of salt for now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft attempts to counteract Sony’s indie assault with another Geometry Wars game.
