Warner Bros., TT Games, and The Lego Group celebrated International Ninja Day yesterday in an adorable way: by announcing the new Lego Ninjago game, Lego Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin. It will be coming in Spring 2015 to the Nintendo 3DS and the PlayStation Vita. You’ll be fighting a new enemy named Ronin, as well as his “army of dark samurai.” The Ninjas lose their memories to the Ronin’s Obsidian Glaive weapon, and they have to find the weapon to get their memories – and powers – back. For those of you familiar with the TV series, you’ll be visiting a lot of familiar places, like the Ice Temple, the village of Spinjago, and the Toxic Bogs.

Tom Stone, Managing Director at TT Games, said, “Lego Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin will be the most expansive adventure game through the Ninjago universe that we have ever made to-date… Kids will get a kick out of playing as their favorite Ninja warriors battling a new enemy with an exciting array of cool vehicles, mechs and even dragons!”

You can find more information about Lego Ninjago: Shadow of Ronin at the game’s official site.

Resogun will reach the PS3 and Vita on December 23; PS4 expansion announced

15330464313_82ff788cc7_z

For those of you who haven’t yet upgraded from a PlayStation 3 to a PlayStation 4, you’re in for a treat – Resogun is coming to PlayStation 3 and Vita December 23 for just $14.99. Not only that – the game will be Cross-Buy, so if you already own it on the PS4, you can download it for free on PS3 and Vita. It will have cross save between the PS3 and Vita versions as well. Righteous!

Climax is the developer on these versions, and the studio has been working closely with Housemarque to make this happen. The developer wrote in a post on the PlayStation Blog: “[T]he biggest technical difference is that the PS Vita and PS3 games run at 30 instead of 60 frames per second. This was a very difficult decision to consider, but a very necessary one to allow the team to focus on what was possible and to make the best game possible for both of these platforms. The framerate is locked, so you can expect solid performance even under a big storm of voxels.”

Despite that, it also has a lot of great things going for it on the Vita: “The PS Vita version also has ad-hoc co-op so that you can team up with a friend. It also makes use of the touch features so you can fully customize the controls, using either the face buttons or the touch controls for any action possible. You can even throw humans with a swipe of your fingers on the rear touch pad!”

That’s not all. Sony also announced an expansion pack for Resogun, titled Resogun: Defenders, which will be available in early 2015. It will cost just $4.99, and is included in the Season Pass. The expansion will include two new game modes, new ships, and new planets. There will also be a free “major content patch” called “Challengers” which will add in “new challenges and feats stretching across all existing game modes and will let you earn challenge points to increase your rank as a Resogun pilot.”

Resogun: Defenders will be playable this weekend at the PlayStation Experience.

Housemarque’s addictive twin-stick shooter, Super Stardust, is going to debut on the PlayStation 4 in early 2015 as Super Stardust Ultra. Developed by D3T and XDEV, this new addition to the franchise will include new planets, more game modes, and enhanced visuals, according to the PlayStation Blog. One of the new game modes is Interactive Streaming, where others can watch you play – and vote to change your gameplay. You’ll also be able to “send and receive challenges from your online friends,” as well as play “in 2-4 player split-screen battles or team up in co-op mode.”

There’s no release date yet, but Sony announced that the launch price will be $12.99. Look for Super Stardust Ultra to come to your PS4 sometime in early 2015.

An InnerView with InnerSpace Director Tyler Tomaseski of PolyKnight Games

innerspace-header

The Kickstarter phenomenon has allowed those who would not have been able to follow the traditional routes of funding to realise their visions within many art forms, but this is especially true in video games. The way the project campaign is run and managed can often be the determining factor in achieving success or returning empty-handed to the drawing board. It is the final few days that are the most tense, and no one knows this better than the team behind the unique flying adventure title InnerSpace as it entered its last 48 hours with pledges covering 95% of its funding. Then, four hours later, the game managed to skip past its 100% target of $25,000 (including a pledge from myself). We caught up with Tyler Tomaseski, Director and Programmer at PolyKnight Games, to discuss the campaign, his hopes for the game now that it has been funded, and who shot JR.

Xbox Store Today: Threes, Limbo

limboboxTwo highly acclaimed indie games make their way to the Xbox One today in Microsoft’s latest Xbox Games Store update.

Threes took the mobile world by storm earlier this year and now the shifty puzzler can be played in glorious high definition on your Xbox One. A massive television screen doesn’t really do much to enhance the playability of Threes, but it surely can’t hurt…

Also available for the Xbox One today is Limbo, Playdead’s haunting monochromatic platformer that was originally released for the Xbox 360 in 2010. Xbox One owners who purchased the system on “Day One” recently received a free copy of Limbo as a thank you from Microsoft.

More information on both of these great games can be found after the break.

Mysterious “Emagon” trailer is just a Spanish ad for Sony’s 20th Anniversary PS4 console

This is disappointing (although not altogether surprising). Sony Spain’s bizarre “Emagon” trailer is nothing more than a commercial advertising the PSone-themed 20th Anniversary Edition PS4 console.

Sony has a history of creating visually striking and interesting teaser trailers that invariably turn out to be teasing a new marketing campaign. Though this latest reversal was sniffed out earlier than most as “Emagon” is clearly “No Game” written backwards.

But if you happen to live in Spain, the new commercial has plenty of important information if you’re in the market for a 20th Anniversary Edition PS4 console. Sony Spain will auction off the country’s allotment of 350 consoles on three days (December 12, 13, 14) through the Playstation20Aniversario.com website. All proceeds from the auction will go to support UNICEF and Juegaterapia.

Purchasing details for the 20th Anniversary Edition PS4 console in North America will be announced during the PlayStation Experience keynote, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 10:00 AM (Pacific Time). PlayStation fans in Canada should keep their eyes peeled to the PlayStation Canada Twitter feed for sales details in Canada.

Only 12,300 individually-numbered 20th Anniversary Edition PS4 consoles will be produced for the entire world.
