Legendary Pictures will develop a Dead Rising movie for Sony’s Crackle service

Legendary Pictures, the film company behind Man of Steel, Godzilla, and the long-gestating adaptation of BioWare’s Mass Effect, has picked up the rights to develop a film based on Capcom’s zombie smasher Dead Rising. However, rather than aiming for the silver screen, the project is the first to emerge from Legendary’s Digital Media division. The company is working with producers Tomas Harlan and Tim Carter of Contradiction Films, who were previously responsible Mortal Kombat: Legacy. Carter will also write the screenplay, although there is no word on a director just yet.

The film will initially be distributed via Sony’s Crackle streaming service in North America, while Content Media Corp. has snagged the international distribution rights. Content Media also released Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn and is distributing the much-anticipated Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist oh home video formats. Tom Lesinski, President of Content and Distribution at Legendary Digital Media, spoke highly of both companies, as well as the source material:

Dead Rising has a built-in fan base and rich characters and plotlines that are ideal for digital storytelling and on target for Legendary’s brand. Crackle and Content are adept at distributing cutting-edge digital content and we look forward to delivering a highly engaging and cool series for a global audience.

After its run on Crackle, the Dead Rising film will be released on DVD and become available to download through On Demand services.

European gamers prefer watching the World Cup to playing TitanFall

Respawn Entertainment has effectively proved what everyone on this side of the Atlantic knows to be true: when football [Ed. Note: soccer] is on, everyone’s eyes are focused on the beautiful game, and not playing with others. The company has released a graph showing the number of players on TitanFall‘s European servers during two recent World Cup games. The more interesting observation is that there was only a slight drop during the Colombia vs Ivory Coast match, which started at 5:00 PM GMT, yet over one third of players dropped off to watch Uruguay smash England 2-1 at 8:00 PM GMT. In the latter game, players can also be seen returning to TitanFall for a brief game during the 15-minute halftime break. Clearly the mid-match commentary was not riveting enough.

Publisher EA will be happy either way, seeing as they also produce the FIFA series of games.

New Releases: Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, Grid: Autosport, Xblaze, More

newreleases062414

Believe it or not, a good variety of new games will be available on store shelves this week.

We start things off with Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, which will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. High Moon Studios originated the War For/Fall of Cybertron series of Transformers game, but they’re out for Rise of the Dark Spark as development duties were given to Edge of Reality by Activision. A handheld companion to Rise of the Dark Spark, developed by WayForward, will also make its way to the 3DS this week. And if you’d prefer your cars to be non-transforming, Codemasters will release Grid: Autosport for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 this week.

Also available this week is Xblaze: Code Embryo, a PS3 and Vita “visual novel” spinoff of Arc System Works’ popular BlazBlue fighting series.

A complete list of this week’s new releases can be found after the break.

See the 30-minute E3 gameplay demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain right here

Hideo Kojima treated audiences to a 30-minute gameplay demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain during this year’s E3 Expo. Now, Konami has posted a recording of a playthrough from “Jackie” and you can check it out above (is that really a flying ram?).

You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll… actually, you’ll mostly just cry as you realize that Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is currently without a launch date and likely won’t be released for a very long time. But when it does, it’ll be available for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Daily Scoop: June 20, 2014 – Saga

If you like Space Operas even the slightest, you should definitely check out the comic book series Saga. I am finally caught up on it – I bought the third volume and promised myself I’d read it when I was done school – and wow, it is incredible. I wish they would make a video game out of it – the universe is so rich and I would love to explore it on my own. There’s just so much out there!

Speaking of so much being out there, the Steam Summer Sale is still going strong. You can get State of Decay for $4.99, Plague Inc: Evolved for $10.04, and The Walking Dead: Season 2 for $12.49, among many other sales. If that’s not enough, the Humble Store is offering up Thief for $14.99, The Novelist for $7.49, and Papo & Yo for $3.74. Scoop ’em up!

Let’s end this week with a fantastic lineup of t-shirts!

7 Games You Missed At E3 2014

e32014missed-header

One of the major problems with the Electronic Entertainment Expo is the fact that it’s too big. So big, in fact, that it hurts, even though the show seems to get more and more exciting every year. However, at the same time, publishers are showing fewer games. I’ve also heard anecdotal evidence that the show floor is so quiet that you can get cell signal. And after the rush of pre-E3 announcements this year, it could be said that the expo itself is all bark and no bite.

Correct or not, there is still a lot of bark during the second week of June every year, so much, in fact, that dozens and dozens of games get lost in all the noise. Here are seven of them.

Nintendo Download: Pushmo World, 2048, Super Dodge Ball, more

nintendoeshop-header

Nintendo has brought their Pushmo series of puzzlers to the Wii U with today’s launch of Pushmo World on the Wii U eShop. It’s joined by an absolutely ridiculous number of new games including…

  • How To Survive, a survival horror game (whoa, meta) for the Wii U.
  • 2048 (3DS), the mobile puzzler that was inspired in large part by Threes!
  • Super Dodge Ball (3DS and Wii U), one of the few dodge ball games ever to be produced and a stone cold NES classic.
  • Another World: 20th Anniversary Edition (3DS and Wii U), a fancified version of the popular platformer.

And that’s just the tip of this week’s new releases on the 3DS, Wii U, and DSi. More information on all of this week’s new releases can be found after the break.

Catlateral Damage struts its stuff on Kickstarter

Another Warp Zoned favorite, Catlateral Damage, is now on Kickstarter. I was freaking out about this one before I included it on our PAXpocalypse list, because it was amazing even before I played it. It’s a ridiculous amount of fun, sort of like a backwards Katamari Damacy, where you play as a cat knocking over everything in your owner’s house. My one regret right now is that I don’t have $500+ to get my awesome cat Puppy in the game.

Catlateral Damage is due out in November 2014 for PC, Mac, Linux, and Ouya. You can play the demo now on their Kickstarter page, and you really, really should.
