Robotoki will use CryEngine to develop Human Element for PC, PS4, Xbox One

humanelement-logoRobotoki and Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s former Community Manager, are hard at work on Human Element, their first game. Yesterday, Bowling confirmed that Human Element will be developed using Crytek’s CryEngine as well revealed the game’s launch plans.

Human Element is currently in development for the PC and will be released in November 2015 (so says Bowling via Twitter). In addition to the PC version, the game is in the works for next-generation consoles (specifically the PS4 and Xbox One), but it is unknown when the console edition will be available. A mobile spinoff of the open world game where players are tasked with rebuilding the world 35 years after a zombie uprising is also in development.

“The ambitious narrative and gameplay of Human Element required an innovative set of features in order to achieve our vision.” said Bowling. “CryEngine is the perfect fit for us because it delivers so many powerful features straight out of the box such as the physical based shading system and the infinite terrain from segmented worlds to create a massive open world experience but still allow the visual fidelity and detail our players expect from a first person experience from our team.”

Bowling also confirmed (again via Twitter) that a Human Element prequel originally in development for the Ouya has been canceled.

It Came From 200X! The InFamous Series

itcamefrom200x-infamous-header

With the much-heralded arrival of InFamous: Second Son, we thought the franchise’s first two (and a half) entries deserved one more day in the spotlight. Sucker Punch Productions first introduced the world to Cole McGrath and the Ray Sphere in 2009. But how did the franchises’s beginnings prepare us for one of the most anticipated titles of the new console generation?

Daily Scoop: March 21, 2014 – Officially Spring!

So, it’s officially Spring now! It doesn’t feel like it, but I don’t care. I’m not wearing my aviator hat anymore, and I might even phase out my winter coat. OK, I probably won’t, because I’m a wuss when it comes to the cold. But hey, at least I’m just wearing one pair of pants now!

Let’s talk about some deals, shall we? The Humble Store has a couple of new deals, including the Viscera Cleanup Detail pre-order for $5.59, Darkout for $7.49, and Shadow Warrior for $9.99. Today’s Daily Deal at Steam is 50% off Racing Manager 2014, marking it down to $9.99.

If it’s a bundle you’re looking for, look no further than Indie Royale‘s World Water Day Bundle. Beat the minimum to get Beatbuddy: Tale of the Guardians, Puddle, Pressure, Depth Hunter, The Ship, and Storm in a Teacup. I highly recommend this, even just to get Beatbuddy, which is great!

And we’re ending this week with some great t-shirts!

Kotaku recently posted a report revealing the French Revolution setting of the next Assassin’s Creed game. Believed to be codenamed “Unity,” their source stated the game was only in development for next-generation systems and that it would be released this Fall.

This morning, Ubisoft confirmed that the next game in the series will be titled Assassin’s Creed: Unity and that it will be set during the French Revolution. Unity has been in development for over three years and it is currently scheduled to be released during this year’s holiday season.

The publisher also released a short teaser trailer for the game, which you can view above.

Mighty No. 9’s GDC 2014 trailer is mega-tastic

I’ve got good news! Especially if you were 10 years old in 1990… Keiji Inafune and Comcept have unveiled another trailer for Mighty No. 9 during their Game Developers Conference presentation!

After Inafune left Capcom, the publisher left Mega Man, his best-known creation, to flounder amid a sea of cancellations and cameos. But the developer has distilled the essence of Mega Man into Mighty No. 9 and produced a game that is looking less “homage” and more “unauthorized sequel” every time we see it. And that’s a good thing. He even patterned Mighty No. 9’s boss robots on the Robot Masters from the original Mega Man. My inner 10-year-old gives this trailer seven thumbs up.

Inafune funded the side-scrolling shooter last year through a mega-successful Kickstarter campaign that ensured the game will be released for nearly every platform imaginable: 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Sony: Project Morpheus won’t launch in 2014, will be priced under $1000

projectmorpheus

If you were hoping to find a Project Morpheus headset under the tree this Christmas, I’ve got some bad news for you.

Speaking to GameSpot at GDC, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida said that the virtual reality device for the PS4 will not be released in 2014. When asked why, Yoshida revealed that Sony’s engineers are still refining Project Morpheus and that the company is “still making changes to the hardware.”

While Project Morpheus currently only exists as a prototype, Yoshida is confident that the headset will eventually launch with a price tag below $1,000. Sony’s Wearable HDTV headset is currently priced at $1,000 and Yoshida said that gamers can expect a lower price for Project Morpheus because gaming consoles are typically sold at a loss.

For comparison’s sake, executives at Oculus expect the consumer version of their Rift headset to be “affordable.”
