Weekly Warp-Up: Good Luck Hello Games Edition

No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…

The Warp Zoned staff compiled a list of our favorite articles from 2013 this week, The WZ Year in Review, but this week’s biggest story is what happened to Hello Games on Christmas Eve. The British developer is the team behind the amazing No Man’s Sky, and they were the victim of massive flooding a few days ago. Everything appears to be lost, but the team has been tweeting their progress in sifting through their water-logged office and they seem surprisingly upbeat. We’re pulling for them.

If you’re interested in the handful of stories that broke during Christmas week, you can find them after the break.

Another Deep Down trailer mixes monsters and medieval knights

Deep Down will make its debut on the PlayStation 4 sometime next year as a free-to-play title. While we still have no idea how that’ll work, Capcom has released a new trailer showcasing the game’s “Prologue” scene.

OK, I watched it and I still have no idea what Deep Down is going for.

Mojang is too busy to work on Wii U version of Minecraft

minecraft-header

Bringing Minecraft to the Wii U seems like the most natural thing in the world. Kids love it and the GamePad’s screen would be perfect for crafting. But according to Minecraft’s creator, Markus “Notch” Persson, the game’s Wii U absence is solely because developer Mojang doesn’t have time to work on it:

That’s a bummer for Wii U owners. But maybe Nintendo can offer to pay for development themselves? That way, everybody wins.

WZ Year in Review: The Most Popular Articles of 2013

wzyearinreview

With 2013 officially in the books, I think it’s safe to say that it was a year that will go down in infamy among gamers. The Xbox One launched and gamers were still debating whether Microsoft’s scrapped game licensing policy was a good idea. The PS4 also launched and while it didn’t have a so-called “killer app,” it received a much warmer response. The Wii U continued to chug along the track, but most third party publishers (except for Ubisoft and the indies) seemed to get off.

So jump into our DeLorean and take a trip back through 2013 as we look at the 21 most popular articles from the last year.

Nintendo Download: Dr. Luigi, Super Punch-Out!!, Pokemon Bank, more

drluigi-header

UPDATE: Nintendo has delayed the release of Pokemon Bank due to the eShop’s continued connectivity problems.

ORIGINAL STORY: Nintendo’s online marketplace is currently experiencing technical difficulties due to all of the people who found Wii Us and 3DSs under the tree yesterday. But that hasn’t stopped The Big N from updating their eShops.

Tuesday, December 31 will close out the “Year of Luigi” in style as Nintendo plans to add Dr. Luigi to the Wii U eShop before the calendar turns. But if you’re looking for something to download today, might I suggest two Virtual Console release: Super Punch-Out!! (Wii U) and Mario Tennis (3DS).

And if you’re a big Pokemon player, you might want to keep an eye out for Pokemon Bank, which will be added to the 3DS eShop tomorrow, December 27. The app allows Pokemon X/Y players to store/manage their captured Pokemon online. A $4.99 annual subscription cost will accompany the Bank, but Nintendo is offering a free trial until January 31.

You can find more details on all of these games and the rest of today’s eShop offerings after the break.

WB Games has a big announcement planned for the Batman: Arkham series on December 31

batmanarkham-savethedate

WB Games recently added an image to the official Facebook page for the Batman: Arkham series to tease a major announcement that’ll take place on December 31, 2013. The image is very light on details as only the words “Save the Date” and the actual date itself (“12.31.2013”) adorn the art deco-like design.

Could it be more downloadable content for Batman: Arkam Origins? Maybe. Could it be an announcement of Batman: Arkham 4? Sure, why not? After all, Rocksteady has been extremely quiet for a very long time. They have to be working on something.

But I guess we’ll add find out what this “major announcement” is next week.
