Battle aliens in Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Extinction co-op mode

Treyarch may have the market cornered on zombies, but Infinity Ward is bringing something new to the Call of Duty franchise with Ghosts: aliens.

The recently revealed “Extinction” mode is a co-op mode for one-to-four players “featuring a unique blend of fast-paced survival action, FPS base defense, scavenging, and class leveling.” Players will battle with horrible shock troopers known as Scorpions and attempt to breach an alien hive with a mini-nuke. It looks to be a close encounter of the awesome kind.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will be released for the PC, PS3, Wii U, and Xbox 360 on November 5. PS4 and Xbox One versions will follow in mid-November.

Eidos Interactive has discussed Western-developed Final Fantasy with Square Enix

squareenix-logo

Final Fantasy was released for the Famicom (NES) in Japan in 1987 and since then, Square Enix has expanded the series to include dozens of sequels, spinoffs, and remakes. But in all that time, the publisher has never contracted with a Western developer to produce a Final Fantasy-branded game. But that may change in the very near future as OXM UK got in touch with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII Director Motomu Toriyama and Gameplay Director Yuji Abe to probe the subject.

According to Toriyama, the development history of the franchise lends itself to seeking out new blood: “The whole thing about the Final Fantasy series is that for every iteration, for every game we do, we have a very different game. So the development team is also different very time, so that there’s different ideas and different concepts driving it. So obviously within that framework, having a very different type of team could work. So if we got the right team of people, it could produce something very interesting in the end.”

Abe went a step further, and specifically cited Square Enix’s Western development, Eidos Interactive, as a possible partner for future Final Fantasy titles: “Obviously, Square Enix bought out Eidos a number of years ago, and now we have direct access to American development teams. That’s certainly been discussed within the company, the possibility of say, Eidos or maybe someone else to look after or maybe take on the Final Fantasy series. And we obviously haven’t decided anything concrete, but if we find the right team of developers, the right people who really wanted to do it, and we had the right game, then yes, certainly we’d think about it.”

Eidos Interactive has been responsible for many of Square Enix’s biggest hits over the last few years including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Sleeping Dogs. While an Eidos/Final Fantasy project is currently just talk, I think it could certainly be an interesting match.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 1 surfaces on November 12

bioshockinfinitelogo

2K Games has announced that the first half of “Burial at Sea,” Irrational’s DLC expansion to BioShock Infinite that returns players to Rapture’s underwater city, will be released on November 12. The add-on will carry a $14.99 price when its made available through PC download services, the PlayStation Store, and the Xbox Live Store. Players who have purchased the BioShock Infinite Season Pass (for $19.99) will receive both halves of “Burial at Sea” (as well as additional DLC) for free.

Join Booker and Elizabeth in a film noir-style story that places them in a shining, pristine Rapture on the eve of its fall from grace. Explore the underwater city, try your hand at a grift or two, and even encounter some old “friends” from the original BioShock.

The combat experience has been rebalanced and reworked with a greater emphasis on stealth and resource management that merges the best parts of BioShock and BioShock Infinite. It includes a new weapon, an old favorite weapon from the original BioShock, the return of the weapon wheel, a new Plasmid, new Gear, and Tears.

Irrational is still hard at work on BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 2. The second half of the expansion is currently without a release date but, when it’s available, it will give players to opportunity to play as Elizabeth for the first time.
