Daily Scoop: March 8, 2012 – You say it’s your birthday?

It’s my birthday too, yeah! And so far it’s an awesome one! It started out at midnight, when my amazing boyfriend gave me a copy of the dice-building game, Quarriors!! I tore it open and nearly spilled 130 dice everywhere. And today has continued to be awesome – even the weather is beautiful! Tonight, the Alex Mack Daddies are in the skee ball playoffs – so wish us luck!

Anyway, to the deals! Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games today is Aksys’ Fate/Extra Limited Edition. This PSP game is just $29.99 today, and boasts “extensive replay value” with “multiple story paths, each with their own unique dialog trees and character interactions that lead to different endings.” Righteous!

And on this auspicious day, we’ve got not one, not two, but THREE gaming shirts for you!

Uncharted: Golden Abyss Review: Treasures Within A Treasure

After last Fall brought us Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, it seems like it’s too soon to enjoy a new Uncharted game. That’s where you’re wrong, jerks! Because SCE’s Bend Studio (with Naughty Dog’s help) has gifted us with the wondrous experience that is Uncharted: Golden Abyss for the PS Vita. Not only does it shimmer almost as much as the PS3 titles have, but the new methods of gameplay make this a refreshing experience both in the realms of Uncharted and in handheld gaming.

Sorcery makes your Move a magic wand on May 22

Sony announced that their long-awaited game, Sorcery, will be out on May 22. This game, which showcased what the Move controller could do back at E3 2010, has been a long time coming.

Brian Upton, the game’s creative director, gave the guys over at PlayStation Blog a summary of the story:

Finn is in trouble. First, he accidentally blew up his master’s alchemy lab. Then he’s let Erline, his master’s magical cat, talk him into trespassing in the realm of the dead. Now he’s unleashed an ancient universe-destroying evil that won’t stop until everything he cares about is utterly annihilated. It has not been a good day.

Even though he’s only an apprentice, Finn must find a way to defeat the Nightmare Queen before she destroys the human world. To do this he must plunge deep into the realm of faerie — the Endless Stair, the Faerie Forest, the Slumbering Palace. With Erline travelling at his side he must master powerful and arcane magical spells, and use them to overcome the strange and twisted servants of Nightmare. He must solve challenging puzzles, and decipher the mysteries of alchemy. He must discover the secrets of the Nightmare Queen’s power and undo the damage that she has wrought.

And, above all, he must earn the right to be called… sorcerer.

Is the late release of this game working for or against Sony? On the one hand, they’ve been able to perfect the Move controls on the game and prepare it to meet with all the hype. But on the other, it would have been nice to have some more decent launch titles with the Move. Perhaps this game will be a motion controller revival of some sort.

Robotics teams ready to rumble with Kinect

At the FIRST Robotics Competition in New York City, which is part of a larger celebration of science and technology, more than 60 robotics teams will be competing to earn a chance to go on to a global competition and qualify for scholarship money.

What does this have to do with gaming, you ask? Each team has an “alliance” of robots, and this year, they have the option to control one using an Xbox 360 Kinect instead of an autonomous routine. The Kinect controller will read the team member’s movements and translate those to the robot, creating a “hybrid” between man and machine. All very science fictiony, don’t you think?

Check out the video above of how the Kinect will be used to control robots at the competition!

The FIRST Robotics competition will be held March 16-18, 2012 at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. For more information about the New York City FIRST, or the competition, visit their website at NYCFIRST.org.

Play.com leaks GTA: Vice City Nights, Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, more for Vita

UK retailer Play.com has outed a few Vita games and the selection should be of great interest to… well, everybody. Don’t believe me? Check out this list of leaked titles:

  • Final Fantasy Type-0 HD
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nights
  • Monster Hunter Portable 3
  • Tales of Innocence R

Obviously, none of these titles have been officially announced. But there’s a lot of evidence to suggest they’re real.

Final Fantasy Type-0 was previously released for the PSP in Japan and Square Enix has always said it would make it across the Pacific. With the PSP as good as dead, a Vita release makes much more sense.

There hasn’t been so much as a peep about Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Nights, but GTA: Liberty City Stories, GTA Vice City Stories, and GTA: Chinatown Wars were huge sellers on the PSP.

A tech demo of Monster Hunter Portable 3 running on Vita hardware was shown by Capcom last year. Turning it into an actual game is a no-brainer. Tales of Innocence R is already available for the Vita in Japan and Namco Bandai has been heavily pushing the series in America as of late, so this also qualifies as a no-brainer.

So what are all of these publishers waiting for? Announce them already!
