Nintendo Video service now beaming 3D video content straight to your 3DS

I guess when Nintendo said the 3DS’ Nintendo Video service was “coming soon” yesterday, they really meant it.

The Nintendo Video service will be releasing exclusive 3D videos from Jason DeRulo, Foster the People, CollegeHumor, and the always intriguing Blue Man Group. You can also get video of extreme sports, animation from some indie studios, and 3D trailers for upcoming Hollywood blockbusters. On July 27, OK Go will debut a new music video with the 3D version exclusively on Nintendo Video.

All you have to do is download the Nintendo Video app from the eShop. That’s it. As long as you’re near a wi-fi hotspot and have SpotPass enabled, the video queue will automatically be updated.

New tracks, 4-player support for Just Dance 3

You now can have the choice to humiliate yourself at a party along with three of your friends: Ubisoft has announced 4-player support for Just Dance 3 at Comic-Con. Just Dance 3 is out on October 11 for the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360, so you might want to start limbering up now.

Along with the new mode that allows four simultaneous players to “jump in and jump out” of gameplay, Just Dance 3 will now allow you to record your own choreography to share online. Challenge your friends to match your own herky-jerky movements and join you on the Facebook tag wall of shame.

In addition to all of this, there are some new tracks to shake yo’ booty to:

  • The Sugarhill Gang – “Apache (Jump On It)” (You all know the dance and don’t want to admit it)
  • The Girly Team – “Baby One More Time” (The Britney Spears song?)
  • Cee Lo Green – “Forget You” (Doesn’t this have another name?)
  • Madness – “Night Boat to Cairo” (Walking like an Egyptian is optional)
  • Tommy Sparks – “She’s Got Me Dancing” (I would hope so… I mean, it is in the game title)
  • The Buggles – “Video Killed The Radio Star” (Hopefully not choreography featured in GTA: Vice City)

I don’t need a game to teach me how to dance. I can do the Macarena all by myself, thank you.

Behind the scenes of Gears of War 3 at Comic-Con

The conclusion of the Gears of War trilogy is approaching. Come September 20, you will once again join Marcus Fenix and his team to fight hoards of the Locust. But this time around, the Gears team at Epic Games is going for a whole new feel for the story.

Epic’s Cliff “CliffyB” Bleszinski said, “Gears was really about a battle. Gears of War 2 wanted to make you feel like you were a part of a war. With Gears of War 3 we wanted to take the scale of the story down, make it personal.”

See just what they are talking about in the behind-the-scenes video above that premiered at this year’s San-Diego Comic-Con.

In addition to the video, Bleszinski and Rod Fergusson of Epic Games hosted a 60-minute panel. They touched on the emotional insight that they poured into the the final Gears game. Evidently, Gears of War 3 will be the longest and meatiest single player campaign Epic has ever produced. You will get to dive deeper into the characters you have spent countless hours with and join them as their story comes to a close.

Blockbuster isn’t dead… yet

It seems that Blockbuster isn’t going down without a fight. The company has emerged from bankruptcy protection and will continue to operate over 1,500 stores nationwide that would have been closed during the liquidation.

“We’re pleased that we will continue to operate more than 90 percent of the stores that were offered at auction in April,” said Michael Kelly, the president of Blockbuster.

With a new lease on life, Blockbuster is taking the fight to Netflix with a new and improved Total Access package that includes something for everyone (even us gamers): new releases 28 days before Netflix, unlimited in-store exchanges, games for PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360 and no additional charge for Blu-ray movies.

So don’t be too sad yet. That familiar big blue movie ticket marquee may not be going anywhere. At least until Netflix purchases Gamefly and stops fooling around with the prices.

Freddy Krueger is the final Mortal Kombat DLC character

You know what, I’m just going to take credit for this one.

A misreading of a tweet from series creator Ed Boon back in April first birthed the “Freddy Krueger in Mortal Kombat” rumor. It was quickly debunked, but apparently the team at NetherRealm thought it was a good idea as well. With a little help from parent company Warner Bros. (the conglomerate’s movie arm owns the rights to Krueger), the Dream Warrior will now do battle with a bunch of ninja warriors.

PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will be able to download Freddy Krueger on August 9. In keeping with the previous DLC characters, he will be priced at $4.99 (or 400 Microsoft Points). Check out the trailer above for a full look at Freddy and his new “two-gloved” fighting style as well as a pair of Fatalities that can only be described as awesome. I mean, a blood geyser straight out of the original Nightmare on Elm Street? Flawless Victory, NetherRealm.

Oh, and you’re welcome.

Fruit Ninja Free now on Andriod Marketplace

For those of you who don’t have an iPhone, you can now get Fruit Ninja for free on the Android Marketplace.

Have a vendetta against fruit? Look at it all just sitting there in the supermarket. It needs to be taught a serious lesson. That’s what the developer Halfbrick thought when they created Fruit Ninja, the wildly popular mobile app centered around ninjas and visceral sprays of juice. With unlockable backgrounds and blades, the fun and zen like trance you can receive is unending.

Free is good. Free is nice. Thanks, Halfbrick.
