Marvel Vs Capcom series returns with “Infinite” possibilities

It’s been rumoured for a while now, but Marvel and Capcom unveiled their fourth collaboration at this year’s PlayStation Experience. The new Marvel Vs Capcom title drops the number at the end and replaces it with a subtitle, Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite. Marvel fans will have already guessed that the title comes from the legendary Infinity Stones, the MacGuffins at the centre of Marvel’s Infinity War, which is due to start filming next year.

The game features a slew of characters that will be seen on screen, including Iron Man and the newly announced Captain Marvel. They take on Capcom legends such as Street Fighter’s Ryu or Mega Man X, both of whom are old hat at the fighting game, having been playable characters in Super Smash Bros for Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS.

Capcom teased other characters, more of whom will be revealed throughout 2017 before the game debuts at the tail end of the year. The developer shared several single player modes, including Arcade, Training, and Missions, on the Capcom-Unity blog, plus a cinematic Story Mode where the heroes will battle against a mysterious new villain, all rendered by the immersive Unreal 4 Engine technology.

There will also be dynamic online and multiplayer features, including online lobbies and spectator modes. Players will also be able to take part in ranked games, or casual ones that do not affect their leader board status. The six Infinity Stones – power, space, time, reality, soul, and mind – will influence the game and force players to change their strategies, based on the power that they, or their opponent, wields.

Finally, Capcom confirmed that Marvel Vs Capcom: Infinite is also in development for the PC and Xbox One.

Ellie and Joel return in The Last of Us Part II at PlayStation Experience 2016

You didn’t think Naughty Dog was coming to the 2016 PlayStation Experience to just unveil a co-op expansion for Uncharted 4 did you? The powerhouse developer also wanted to give us a taste of their next game… The Last of Us Part II.

In development exclusively for the PS4, The Last of Us Part II takes place several years after the first game, and first trailer shows an older, and heavily scarred, Ellie (again played by Ashley Johnson) strumming a guitar while surrounded by bodies. Joel (once again voiced by Troy Baker) also makes an appearance.

As of right now, The Last of Us Part II doesn’t have a release date.

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ is likely in development for the Nintendo Switch

bindingofisaac-header

Developer Edmund McMillen is currently putting the finishing touches on a massive expansion to The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, his roguelike shooter, and it should be available for the PC by the end of the year.

A few days ago, Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis updated fans on the development process behind the Afterbirth+ expansion, and confirmed it’s also coming to consoles via the game’s official website:

Expect Afterbirth+ on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and one more console. Sorry no PS Vita or Wii U versions. Date? Spring 2017–we’re already working on the console versions. – Mod support? We’re still investigating a good method to deliver mods. It WILL NOT have built-in mod support as the tools we’ve created have some very specific requirements

Interesting… The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ will be released for the PS4, Xbox One, and “one more console” that isn’t the PS Vita or the Wii U. While Rodriguez’s statement doesn’t rule out a release on the New 3DS, it seems much more likely that he’s referring to an upcoming appearance on the Nintendo Switch for Isaac.

I guess we’ll all find out for sure in Spring 2017.

Last night’s Game Awards celebrated the year’s best new experiences while also giving us a very interesting glimpse at the future of gaming. But there’s still a handful of new releases to talk about today, and they’re now available to download from the Xbox Games Store.

Ubisoft’s Steep brings players to the very top of the mountain and then gives them four ways to get down: Skiing, Snowboarding, Paragliding, or Wingsuiting. The open world game is now available to download for the Xbox One and the publisher promised that “the mountain is yours to explore.”

Also newly available for the Xbox One today is The Dwarves, an RPG from THQ Nordic based on the novel of the same name by Markus Heitz. According to the publisher, The Dwarves will includes 15 playable characters, a strong story, and tactically challenging real-time battles.

Finally this week, Stern Pinball Arcade will attempt to recreate classic tables on the Xbox One including Star Trek Vengeance, Last Action Hero, and Starship Troopers; and Furi is a twin-stick with boss design by Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai).

Overwatch wins Game of the Year at 2016 Game Awards

gameawards-statueThe 2016 Game Awards were filled with surprises, but I’m sure no one was shocked when Blizzard’s Overwatch walked away with the most statuettes last night, including the coveted “Game of the Year” prize. And Blizzard was honored for their development work on Overwatch with the “Best Game Direction” award.

Rocket League’s “Starbase ARC” update announced at Game Awards 2016

Developer Psyonix, creator of the wildly-popular Rocket League, announced an out-of-this-world update to their automotive soccer title. The update, entitled Starbase ARC, brings the Rocket League universe to the final frontier.

Starbase ARC, an homage to Psyonix’s critically-acclaimed mobile title, ARC Squadron, is an octagonally-shaped space station orbiting a desert planet in a distant galaxy. Lasers fire whenever goals are scored, starships battle it out in the skies, and planetoids float eerily by in the distance to create one of the most epic Rocket League atmospheres yet.

Launching December 7th, the Rocket League Starbase ARC arena will be free, and a similarly-styled premium car will be available for $1.99. This update will also introduce a Custom Training Mode that allows players to create their own training sequences, and upload them for other players to try out. More info on Custom Training can be found at Rocket League’s official website.
