Activision has deployed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered’s Launch Trailer

One of the most-popular and best-reviewed games in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, will receive a remastered release this November, but Activision wants to start getting excited now. Yesterday, the publisher deployed a Launch Trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, and it hits all the high points.

PS4 players who pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Legacy Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be able to download Modern Warfare’s single-player Campaign on October 5. Sadly, they’ll have to wait until November 4 to jump back into the game’s multiplayer.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will also be available on the PC and Xbox One for players who purchase the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Legacy Edition of Infinite Warfare. As of right now, Activision doesn’t have any plans to sell Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone, but that could always change in the future.

J.J. Abrams confirms Portal and Half-Life films are still in development

Way back in 2013, film director J.J. Abrams and Valve CEO Gabe Newell told the world that movies based on Half-Life and Portal were in the works at Abrams’s Bat Robot Productions. Last night, during HBO’s gala premiere for the premiere episode of Westworld, Abrams reconfirmed that both adaptations are still on track.

Speaking to IGN, Abrams revealed that he actually has a meeting with Valve next week, and that he’s hoping to make an announcement concerning Portal “fairly soon.” While the cagey director wouldn’t elaborate further on the agenda for that meeting, he did say that they’re very close to finding a screenwriter:

“We are having some really interesting discussions with writers, many of whom…once you said you’re doing a movie or show about a specific thing that is a known quantity you start to find people who are rabid about these things. As someone who loves playing Half Life and Portal, what’s the movie of this, it’s incredible when you talk to someone who just ‘gets’ it, it’s like, oh my god, it’s really the seed for this incredible tree you’re growing.”

And in case you were wondering, Abrams had a hearty laugh at the mere mention of Half-Life 3. So… Half-Life 3 is probably going launch on May 7, 2017… because as we all know, that’s World Laughter Day.

Kickstart This! Magicland

After Pokemon Go became an instant phenomenon, I was honestly expecting to read about a slew of upcoming augment reality games. But Magicland is the first I have seen, and while it could be accused of riffing on Niantic’s catch ‘em all game, it has more in common with other, more divisive titles like Spore and No Man’s Sky. It may be a little rough around the edges, but any game that might enthrall kids and get them outside playing could be a good thing.

Let’s go exploring!

Nintendo Download: Yo-Kai Watch 2, Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, Sonic Boom Fire & Ice, more

Nintendo’s versatile handheld steals the spotlight in this week’s Nintendo Download…

Leading things off is Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits and Yo-Kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls, a pair of new 3DS games from Level-5. More than 350 troublemaking spirits will be added to the Yo-Kai universe in the sequel, and each game will include a batch of unique Yo-Kai. And Yo-Kai Watch fans will likely need all the help they can get, as players will have to travel back in time to save Springdale.

Also available for the 3DS this week is Azure Striker Gunvolt 2, the final featured title from Nintendo’s Nindies Summer Jam promotion. Developed by Inti Creates, Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 is a side-scrolling action/platformer that harkens back to the heyday of Super NES shooters.

However, if you were more of a Genesis fan in the early 90s, you grew up with Sonic the Hedgehog. And the Blue Blur is back this week in Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, yet another 3DS game based on the new animated series.

Jumping over to the Wii U eShop, a pair of puzzling games are now available to download. First up, we’ve got Soul Axiom, a mysterious “cyber thriller” where players will have to unravel the mysteries of their digital afterlife to save the day. But a very different type of future can be glimpsed in Pikmin, the Wii original (which was itself a remake of the GameCube classic) that’s now available for the Wii U. Join Captain Olimar and his Pikmin pals and explore a strange new planet.

More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break.
