Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers are top seeds in Madden NFL 12 bracket

It’s 4 PM and, as promised, EA Sports and ESPN have unveiled the bracket for the Madden NFL 12 Cover Vote. You can vote for the winners of the 16 initial matchups now at ESPN.com or fill out your own bracket using the Madden NFL Bracket Facebook bracket.

The five-week long tournament will choose the Madden NFL 12 curse victim cover athlete on April 27 with a new round commencing every week. Each team is represented in the bracket and the #1 seeds went to Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) and Philip Rivers (San Diego Chargers). However, some of the choices are just baffling:

The Denver Broncos selection is Tim Tebow, who spent most of the season as the third-string quarterback. Tom Brady and Wes Welker of the New England Patriots were passed over for running back Danny Woodhead. No player from the Seattle Seahawks was deemed worthy with EA choosing The 12th Man instead.

EA applies bracketology to Madden NFL 12 cover athlete

Did Marquette kill your Final Four bracket yesterday? Or maybe it was Florida State. Or maybe, like President Obama, your bracket is still relatively pristine.

Whatever your bracket looks like, EA Sports is giving gamers a second chance to prove their bracket prowess with the Madden NFL 12 Bracket Challenge. EA has selected 32 players (one from each team) to compete in a single elimination tournament to determine the cover athlete of Madden NFL 12. That’s right, the recipient of the curse is on us now.

EA will reveal the full bracket on ESPN’s “SportsNation” today at 4 PM (Eastern Time) today. But they did say that Super Bowl XLV MVP Aaron Rodgers, Madden NFL 11 cover athlete Drew Brees (who won a three-way fan vote), Madden NFL 2004 cover athlete Michael Vick, Maurice Jones-Drew, Adrian Peterson and Julius Peppers are among the finalists.

Madden fans can create their own bracket by using the Madden NFL Bracket application on Facebook. The winners of each matchup will be chosen through daily voting at ESPN.com/maddenvote.

The top two bracketologists will win the Grand Prize of $2,000 and two tickets to Super Bowl XLVI. Eight 1st Place winners will receive four tickets to an NFL game of their choice. “Group Winners” will receive a copy of Madden NFL 12 when it’s released in August.

Captain America, Thor games go 3D, get new trailers

Captain America and Thor will be hammering into movie theaters this summer in Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, but Sega is also giving gamers the chance to control these titans of the Marvel universe in two tie-in games as well.

Yesterday, the publisher announced that Thor: God of Thunder would be released for the DS, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 on May 3. They’ve also given a July 19th release date to Captain America: Super Soldier, which is also coming to the DS, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360. A 3DS version is planned for both titles, but it won’t be ready until each movie hits Blu-ray/DVD this Fall.

And speaking of 3D, Sega has also revealed that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of both games will be playable in stereoscopic 3D. Because nothing says “duck!” like seeing Mjolnir or Cap’s Shield thrown directly at the screen.

Each game will support multiple 3D viewing options including anaglyph color mode using red and blue glasses for conventional displays, Side-by-Side & Top-Bottom modes for active shutter glasses and 3D televisions, and the higher resolution Frame Packing mode for HDMI 1.4 3D displays only on the PS3.

Tiger Woods wins Morning Drive Showdown

Tiger Woods appeared on The Golf Channel’s “Morning Drive” this morning to talk a little bit about Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters and also to challenge co-host Gary Williams to a single hole showdown. After being embarassed by Jimmy Fallon in a similar showdown on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, golf’s greatest player was able to redeem himself by shooting a par-4 to Williams’ quadruple bogey on the 10th hole at (a virtual) Augusta National.

Playing online over the PlayStation Network (though not using the new PlayStation Move functionality), Tiger even managed to talk some trash after Williams repeatedly missed the hole. After Williams’ fourth putt, he commented, “I have been practicing for literally three days on this game.”

Woods’ response was a playful “I can see.”

WWE All-Stars screens show off game modes

THQ has released a dozen new screenshots showcasing the many modes of WWE All-Stars. The arcade brawler will include classic modes like 1 on 1 and Steel Cage Match along with Triple Threat, Fatal 4 Way, Tornado Tag, Elimination, Extreme Rules and Handicap Matches. Morning Drive host challenges Tiger to Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 match

Tiger Woods will hook up with “Morning Drive” host Gary Williams this Thursday, March 17, for a two-hole showdown in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters. Williams and Woods will square off on holes 12 and 13 at Augusta National, better known as “Amen Corner,” thanks to the wonders of online play (Woods will be in New York during the interview).

While the winner won’t be donning a Green Jacket, this is not Tiger’s first time being challenged at his own game. In 2009, he battled Jimmy Fallon in two holes of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10… and Fallon stomped him. Of course, Fallon is practically a professional gamer, so maybe he’ll have better luck against Williams.

“Morning Drive” airs live on The Golf Channel every weekday from 7:00 to 9:00 AM. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12: The Masters will be released for the PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 on March 29.

In spite of lockout, Madden NFL 12 will be released as scheduled

The NFL Players Association has voted to decertify their union and the owners have imposed a lockout, effectively placing the fate of the 2011-12 season in the hands of the courts. EA Sports’ Rob Semsey has taken to Twitter to reassure fans that Madden NFL 12 is still in development and that it’ll be released this August as scheduled.

In a series of tweets, Semsey announced that all NFL players will be present and accounted for in Madden NFL 12. He also confirmed that rookies selected in next month’s NFL Draft will be placed on the rosters of their respective teams in the game. Finally, Semsey revealed that the Madden NFL 12 cover athlete would be announced by the end of March. Hmm, not being able to play at all might be the ultimate invocation of the Madden Cover Curse.

Hard Corps: Uprising running to PSN and gunning on March 15

The wait is almost over: PlayStation users will be able to get their hands on Hard Corps: Uprising when it lands on PSN next week, March 15, for $9.99. Okay, you won’t be able to actually get your hands on it, since it’s a digital download, but we loved it, so be sure to check it out.

Especially since the $9.99 pricetag is $5 lower than what Xbox 360 owners were forced to pay back in February.
