All Articles: Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, Clustertruck, Kirby Star Allies, more coming to Nintendo eShop this week

The virtual stockers who help run the 3DS eShop are getting the week off, but Nintendo still plans to add 17 new titles to the Switch eShop over the next seven days.

This week’s biggest new release is definitely Kirby Star Allies, which will be available to download beginning tomorrow. Kirby Star Allies is a side-scrolling platformer that includes a drop-in/drop-out multiplayer option and new Friend Abilities to use against enemies. Also available to download on Friday is Tesla Vs Lovecraft, an overhead shooter where players will have to fight H.P. Lovecraft’s nightmarish monsters in a mech suit piloted by Nikola Tesla.

Horrible monstrosities are also at the center of Koei Tecmo’s Attack On Titan 2, and Switch owners will be able to do battle against the Titans for the first time on Tuesday, March 20. WayForward will also bring the third game in the Shantae series, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, to the Switch on the same day.

Finally, if you’re looking to download something today, the truck-to-truck jumping of Clustertruck is now available through the Switch eShop, as is a re-release of Bad Dudes, a classic beat ’em up from the 1980s.

You can learn more about all of this week’s additions to the Nintendo eShop after the break. (more…)

While the Call of Duty franchise continues to push further and further into the future, EA and DICE are taking the Battlefield franchise back to The Great War for Battlefield 1. The shooter will be available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One this week, and Microsoft is even offering a special Xbox One S + Battlefield 1 Bundle in two sizes… 500 GB and 1 TB.

Firaxis Games and 2K will return with a different sort of trip through time this week with Civilization VI. The strategy game will be released for the PC, and it’ll once again ask players to battle it out with famous world leaders and grow their civilization.

Skylanders fans will get the chance to try out a new entry in the franchise, as Activision will bring Skylanders Imaginators to the PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this week. For the first time, players will be able to design their own Skylanders characters with the brand new Imaginators system.

In what has become a regular occurrence in the New Retail Releases report, another batch of games will get the re-release treatment this week. WB Games will swoop down to save the day in Batman: Return to Arkham, a PS4 and Xbox One compilation featuring Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. The publisher will also package together Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 and Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7 in Lego Harry Potter Collection, exclusively for the PS4. WayForward will give 3DS owners another chance to pick up Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, this time in a new Retail Edition. Finally, Harmonix will release the Rivals expansion for Rock Band 4 this week, and launch a special Rock Band 4 + Rivals Expansion pack for the PS4 and Xbox One.

Xbox Store Today: EA Sports UFC 2, Shadow Complex Remastered, Dungeon of the Endless, more

It’s a big day for the Xbox Games Store as seven new Xbox One titles are now available to download.

Leading things off is EA’s EA Sports UFC 2. As you might expect from its numerical suffix, UFC 2 is EA’s second stab at a mixed martial arts simulation. The megapublisher has added hundreds of fighters to the game as well as improved the “Knockout Physics System” in an attempt to create the most authentic MMA adaptation ever.

Also available today is Shadow Complex Remastered, Chair’s modern-day take on the “Metroidvania” genre. Originally released for the Xbox 360 in 2009, the remastered edition of the game includes enhanced graphics, all-new dynamic melee take-downs, and additional Achievements and Master Challenges. A second side-scroller will get an Xbox One re-release today as Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is also now available to download. WayForward has promised that the third game in the Shantae series is the biggest yet, and the first to debut on the Xbox One.

Finally today, Amplitude will bring Dungeon of the Endless and its unique “Rogue-Like Dungeon-Defense” hybrid to the Xbox One.

More information on all of these games (and several other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)

Nintendo Download: Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, Duck Hunt, Super Mario World, more

supermariobros-titleExactly 26 years ago, I unwrapped an NES “Action Set” complete with the original Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. This Christmas, Nintendo wants to recreate one of my earliest childhood memories by adding Super Mario Bros. Deluxe, a Game Boy Color port of the original Super Mario adventure, to the 3DS eShop and Duck Hunt to the Wii U eShop. Someone tell the Duck Hunt Dog that I will have the last laugh this year…

Two other Nintendo classics are now available to download today, both on the Wii U eShop. Mario Party Advance was the first Mario Party to be released for a Nintendo handheld. And Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 brought Super Mario World, possibly the greatest Super Mario game ever, to the Game Boy Advance when it was originally released.

Also available this week is the Wii U debut of WayForward’s strong>Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. Already available for the 3DS, Wii U owners can now take control of the feisty genie in her latest side-scrolling adventure.

More information on all of these games (and a few others) can be found after the break. (more…)
