Silent Hill: Downpour washes away SH8 working title

Silent Hill 8 is no more! Don’t worry, it wasn’t canceled, but the Vatra Games-developed PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 title finally has an official title: Silent Hill: Downpour.
The February 2011 issue of Game Informer will have more information, but they promise that water will be everywhere in Downpour: “It’s falling from the sky! It’s running from the ceiling! It’s in puddles on the ground!”
Game Informer’s February issue should be arriving in subscriber’s mailboxes now.

NetherRealm spends a “Night Out With Mileena” in new Mortal Kombat trailer
“What would you do on a night out with Mileena?”
This question was recently posed to the developers of Mortal Kombat at NetherRealm Studios and this new trailer proves that they know how to show a girl a good time. Especially a girl with razor sharp fangs and demonic blood flowing through her veins.
In addition to getting an inside look at the twisted minds that make Mortal Kombat, the trailer features plenty of gameplay footage of Mileena doing what she does best. NetherRealm has really played up the demonic angle to the character for the upcoming reboot and you can expect lots of blood and lots of boobage from Mileena.
April (when Mortal Kombat is released on the PS3 and Xbox 360) can’t come soon enough.

New Retail Releases – Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded, DC Universe Online, Ghost Trick, More

Do you love RPGs? If you said yes, then you’ll definitely want to head to your favorite retailer this week.
On the DS, Square Enix plans to release the latest entry in the Kingdom Hearts series, Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded. And over on the PS3, Sony’s MMORPG DC Universe Online will cross over into stores (its coming to the PC as well).
Also available this week is Venetica (PS3, Xbox 360), an RPG where the Grim Reaper’s daughter hunts down a necromancer. And finally, there’s Prinny 2, the latest Disgaea spin-off from Atlus.
If RPGs aren’t your thing, Capcom will be releasing the latest game from the Phoenix Wright team, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, on the DS
The full list of the rest of this week’s new releases can be found below. (more…)

Pitch a perfect game in Major League Baseball 2K11, win $1 million
How do you usually get ready for the baseball season? Do you pick up a sports game, say the MLB 2K series? How would a million dollars sound to get you set for the season? 2K Sports is once again rewarding $1,000,000 to the first player to pitch a perfect game in Major League Baseball 2K11. Well, the award will go to first player to do so after MLB opening day, April 1, 2011. Players will have a little less than a month to prepare for the challenge following the March 8 release date of the game. The perfect pitch theme seems to have also translated into the cover art, as Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies is one of only 20 players in baseball history to pitch a perfect game (and one of the few to pitch multiple no-hitters in a single season).
Despite fierce competition in the genre from the MLB The Show series, you have to admit, this is a pretty tough offer to turn down.

God of War III, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood lead 2011 WGA nominations
The Writers Guild of America yesterday announced the nominees for the 2011 Writers Guild Award in Videogame Writing (but it’s a shame that no one at the WGA knows that “video game” is two words).
This year’s nominees cover some familiar territory as three of the six nominees are sequels to previous nominees: Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II (the original Force Unleashed actually won in 2009). But don’t count out the three newcomers, including God of War III, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Singularity.
The winner will be announced at a bicoastal ceremony (one in New York and one in LA) on Saturday, February 5. Congratulations to all the nominated writers, which you can find after the jump. (more…)

Duke Nukem Forever in EGM’s February issue
Electronic Gaming Monthly’s February issue exists to let fans of Duke Nukem Forever know that more information is coming in late January or early February. What’s with the gaming industry making announcements about when they’re going to be making more announcements? In the meantime, you can satiate your lust with an interview with Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford. He also mentions that the developer’s other game, Aliens: Colonial Marines, probably won’t be released this year.
Oh yeah, and in other news, Red Dead Redemption was EGM’s GOTY. And they gave Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded a 5.0. Ouch. More details at NeoGAF.
