Warpback: What We Played in August 2014

warpback0914-header

The August heat kept most of busy during the last days of Summer. But the Warp Zoned staff still got plenty of gaming in on their consoles, their PCs, and their mobile phone device thingies. Some of us got scared playing P.T./Silent Hills and some of us got manly with Max Gentlemen. Find out who played what after the break. And bring on the Fall!

August just seems to have gotten away from me… or maybe I was just too overwhelmed by all the manliness in two of the games I played to try anything else. First up, I gave the free Broforce spinoff The Expendabros a spin and blew up a lot of stuff. Mostly myself, but occasionally some bad guys too. After that, I grabbed Max Gentlement on both Steam and the iOS Store and stacked hats like a mad man. As of this writing, I’m the 23rd best hat-stacker in all the world. I feel so manly! If this were the 1920s, I would say Max Gentlemen is a barneymugging hit on all sixes. Now, if you’ll excuse me, my rapidly growing chest hair is making it hard to type…

I started playing Pokemon Platinum at the end of July, and it’s really the only game I’ve been playing consistently this past month. I’ve been working my butt off here and there farming gold to get the Platinum Trophy in Diablo III, after which I’ll likely pick up the remastered version with the expansion for the PS4. I know, I know, I’m nuts. I went through that crazy playable teaser for Kojima’s new Silent Hills project, which scared the crap out of me. And I started playing InFamous: First Light, though with PAX Prime coming up, I likely won’t finish it until sometime in September. Spoiler alert: it’s super fun so far.

August seems to have been a big black hole for my spare time. I battled my way through the many levels of Dakko Dakko’s Wii U hit Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails (review here. I’ve also been jumping back and forth between Mario Kart 8 and Lego City Undercover, although the loading times in the latter are longer than the levels they load!

On my trusty PlayStation 3, which I feared had died last week, picked up XCOM: Enemy Unknown in a bargain bucket, and also BioShock Infinite, to fill my need to complete the trilogy.

August was a pretty slow month. Other than the next exciting episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 2 game, I didn’t get into very many new titles. I played a bit of The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, which is just as awesome as you’d think it’d be. I also put in my usual Animal Crossing: New Leaf mayoral duties, and spent some time with Mario Kart 8. Guess I’m just getting ready for the Fall onslaught. Bring it on!
