The Games of February 2015

gamesoffebruary-header

I think Warp Zoned’s staff can agree on one thing: Evolve looks pretty amazing. Other than that, there’s not much happening, except for The Order: 1886, obviously. Read on to find out what we plan to spend our money and time on in this short month!

Two games are definitely calling out to me louder than all others this month. Evolve, the “4v1” shooter from Turtle Rock Studios, was absolutely amazing when I played it at last year’s PAX East, and the game has only grown in scope and complexity since then. Best of all, I’m thrilled that Turtle Rock is putting so much emphasis on the single-player portion of the game. I’m also eagerly anticipating The Order: 1886 from Ready At Dawn and Sony Santa Monica External. It doesn’t look like it does much new with the shooting portion of the game, but the werewolves in Victorian London plotline looks fantastic.

I’m not super excited about anything coming out this month, honestly. I had a chance to play some Evolve in the alpha, and I think it feels promising, but I’m just not sure how it’s going to work out. I would like to play the finished version, but with the little time I have in February, I don’t think it will happen quite yet.

If I had a PS4, I’d be all over The Order: 1886 like the snowstorm that is currently whitening my city. And if I wasn’t recovering from a sore throat, voice-only controlled There Came An Echo would be intriguing to say the least. It also stars Wil Wheaton, so I could see the appeal, and the voice-only thing seems to work really well.

I am trying to justify the purchase of a 3DS for Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D as even though I’ve played the game, it’s been so long that I could happily revisit it. But I will definitely be picking up Kirby and the Rainbow Curse. I am sad to admit that I have never owned or played a Kirby game (Smash Bros doesn’t count), but I do love the claymation feel of this one.

My love of Left 4 Dead knows no bounds. Having said that, my excitement for Evolve grows every day. I am a huge fan of co-op games, and I really hope that this game will give me the same experience as Turtle Rock’s last outing. And speaking of zombies, Resident Evil: Revelations 2 looks like it’ll be a fun experience. I thoroughly enjoyed the first title, as it reminded me of the previous games. I just can’t decide if I want to download the episodes, or wait for the retail versions…
