Game Critics Awards panel declares Fallout 4 the “Best of Show” at E3 2015

The Game Critics Awards, a panel comprised of journalists from 38 different publications, have handed out their 2015 “Best of E3” honors and Bethesda’s Fallout 4 took home the big prize… which should come as a surprise to pretty much no one. In addition to being named “Best of Show,” Fallout 4 was also awarded “Best PC Game” and “Best Role Playing Game.”

However, Fallout 4 couldn’t win all the awards, and its quantity was actually matched by Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, which collected three awards of its own. Among the traditional awards, Nathan Drake’s next adventure won “Best Console Game” and “Best Action/Adventure Game.” But it was also selected for a “Special Commendation For Graphics” award by the Game Critics Awards panel.

Star Wars: Battlefront was the only other multi-award winner, taking home “Best Action Game” and “Best Online Multiplayer.” More interestingly, this year’s Best of E3 awards included two repeat winners… Super Mario Maker for “Best Family/Social Game” and No Man’s Sky for “Best Independent Game.”

A full list of this year’s winners can be found after the break. (more…)

The Changing Face of Bethesda’s Heroes Led the Way at E3 2015

Bethesda’s first-ever E3 Press Conference was chock-full of goodies, from Dishonored: Definitive Edition for next generation consoles to a new Doom and its intuitive SnapMap creator. But there was also something else to celebrate during the presentation, as the company’s two biggest announcements, Fallout 4 and Dishonored 2, both offered the choice to play as a female character. And believe it or not, every game showcased by Bethesda will give players that same choice. (more…)

Star Wars: Battlefront, Fallout 4 lead the way in Game Critics Awards Best of E3 2015 nominees

e3expologoThe Force is strong with DICE’s Star Wars: Battlefront as the game collected five nominations, more than any other title, from the Game Critics Awards in their annual Best of E3 competition. The Star Wars shooter is up for “Best of Show,” “Best Console Game,” “Best PC Game,” “Best Action Game,” and “Best Online Multiplayer.”

Bethesda’s Fallout 4 and Guerrilla’s Horizon: Zero Dawn can also be considered contenders after collecting four nominations apiece. Both games will battle each other (and Battlefront) for “Best of Show” and “Best Console Game,” but their path will split for the remaining nominations. Fallout 4 is up for “Best PC Game” and “Best RPG,” while Horizon: Zero Dawn was nominated for “Best Original Game” and “Best Action/Adventure Game.”

Two other nominees will compete for this year’s “Best of Show” award including Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and the Oculus Touch motion controller.

The group behind the Game Critics Awards is comprised of representatives from 38 media publications, and they plan to announce this year’s winners on July 7. The full list of nominees can be found after the break. (more…)

Fallout 4 will be released on November 10, 2015… get your first look right here

Fallout 4 is coming… and much sooner than you’d think. To close out their first-ever E3 Press Conference, Executive Producer Todd Howard took the stage to introduce the long-awaited sequel, but also to reveal exactly when we’ll get a chance to play it. Ladies and gentlemen, old onto your Vault doors, Fallout 4 will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 10, 2015.

Howard then took viewers on a whirlwind tour of the new game, beginning with the revelation that Fallout 4 opens before the nuclear war that would eventually decimate the world. Players will get a chance to completely customize their character, man or woman, by editing a wide variety of facial features. Once you step away from the mirror, you’re ready to begin your Fallout 4 adventure… or rather, you will, 200 years from now as the sole survivor of Vault 111.

Once you’re out in the world, you’ll reconnect with your robot butler, Codsworth, and meet a friendly German Shepherd. Players will be able to give the dog commands and it will help in battles. But don’t worry, the strategic shooting of the VATS System is back. And a revamped Pip-Boy model offers a new spin on one of Fallout’s signature features. This new Pip-Boy will even play games, like the Donkey Kong homage “Red Menace.”

And speaking of gadgets, players will have a ton of options for crafting in Fallout 4. Tools, armor, weapons, buildings. The options are endless. And once you’ve got a building, you can hook it in to the power grid and build an entire town which will be inhabited by other survivors in short order.

Finally, Howard revealed that the Fallout 4 Collector’s Edition will come packaged with a WORKING Pip-Boy. How, you ask? The Pip-Boy is actually a cradle for your smartphone that you wear on your wrist (eat your heart out, Apple Watch). Bethesda is even designing a Pip-Boy app that you can use as a “second screen” for Fallout 4. The Fallout 4 Collector’s Edition will be available in “limited quantities” and it’ll set you back $119.99.

The complete Fallout 4 presentation from Bethesda’s E3 Press Conference has been embedded above and you can check out the first screenshots from the game at the Bethesda Blog.

T-Minus 119 days until launch… of the game… not the bombs.

Fallout 4 officially announced for PC, PS4, Xbox One

As expected, in the aftermath of Bethesda’s countdown, we now have confirmation that Fallout 4 will be released for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. There’s no release date yet, but we did get a pretty great teaser trailer, which you can view above.

In addition to the trailer, Bethesda has opened a teaser site for the game at Fallout4.com. It’s pretty bare for the moment, but I assume it’ll begin filling up once the 2015 E3 Expo opens. And speaking of E3, Bethesda plans to showcase a “World Premiere” gameplay demostration of Fallout 4 during their E3 Press Conference on Sunday, June 14. Fans can watch the entire presentation (which will also include a Doom 4 gameplay demo) at Twitch or YouTube.

“We know what this game means to everyone,” said Todd Howard, Fallout 4’s Director. “The time and technology have allowed us to be more ambitious than ever. We’ve never been more excited about a game, and we can’t wait to share it.”

Bethesda is counting down to Fallout 4… probably

fallout4countdownIt’s real. It’s finally happening. Right? Yeah, probably. At least, we hope so. Gah!

Anyway, this morning, visitors to Bethesda’s official website were treated to the image of a Fallout-inspired test pattern and an accompanying countdown clock, which expires tomorrow at 10:00 AM (Eastern Time). Is this the Fallout 4 announcement we’ve all been waiting for? Probably, but it’s just as likely that when the clock strikes zero Bethesda will announce that the real Fallout 4 announcement will take place during their E3 2015 Press Conference, which is set for June 14.

That said, Fallout 4’s status as an in-development project has been a bit of an open secret at Bethesda for several years. Company executives will happily discuss the game and a casting call referencing locations from the series was even made available to the public in 2013.

So, yeah. It’s real and it’s finally happening.
