Killzone Trilogy coming to PS3 in October… no one surprised

In a move that should surprise no-one, Sony has announced that the Killzone Trilogy will join the HD collection lineup on October 23rd. The Killzone Trilogy will feature all three games, including the original Killzone, now in HD and with full Trophy support. The collection also comes locked and loaded with three multiplayer maps for both Killzone 2 and Killzone 3.

While the front cover artwork suggests the trilogy is Move and 3D compatible, it is more than likely this only applies to the third entry, which already had those features (and is dangerously close to false advertising).

Sony also confirmed (via the PlayStation Blog) the games will be available separately on the PlayStation Network (including the never-before-released Killzone HD), but there were no other details about when that’ll happen or what the pricing of the individual games will look like.

The Golden Pixel Awards 2011: Gaming’s Best, Worst, and Everything Else

Welcome to Warp Zoned’s first ever Golden Pixel Awards. Sit back and relax as we reward the best (and worst) games of 2011 with accolades based on their rather unique accomplishments.

The Apocalypse List

The bombs have fallen, the zombies have horded, food is scarce, and you’ve boarded yourself up in a bunker that’ll stand for a hundred years. What better way to spend your time in “The Vault” than by playing Warp Zoned’s favorite games from 2011? It doesn’t matter if you call it a “Top Ten List” or “Our Favorites From 2011,” but these are the games we plan to keep playing even if there was no game industry to keep making games. (more…)

Alien Zombies arrive and Killzone 3 expands in PlayStation Store 6/21 update

The PlayStation Store had one of its sparser updates last night, but managed to bring a couple gems to the people. The E-Rated Alien Zombie Mega Death debuted, coming chock full of adventure levels and survival modes. Killzone 3‘s From the Ashes pack also arrived, bringing a nice mix of new wave and old school multiplayer maps to the game. Finally, all you early adopters can check out a 3D demo of Virtua Tennis 4 in all its PlayStation Move compatibility.

Killzone 3 “From the Ashes” DLC includes remastered Tharsis Depot & Radec Academy

The third map pack for Killzone 3 will release on the PlayStation Store on June 21 for $4.99. For the price of admission, you get four maps, two of which are remastered from Killzone 2. One is Tharsis Depot, while the other is Radec Academy, whose changes you can see in the video above. Anyone who spent a decent amount of time with Killzone 2’s multiplayer probably lost a lot of hours in Radec Academy, so it’ll be great to see how the new one stacks up. You can head over to the PlayStation Blog for three additional trailers showcasing these retro maps.

“Welcome Back” Killzone style: Double XP Weekend starting… now!

I was wondering who was going to do this first. The Killzone Blog has announced in celebration of the PSN being back online, Guerilla Games is offering a Double XP Weekend for Killzone 3 starting today at 17:00 PM UK time and ending this Sunday at 10:00 AM UK time. At the end of every match the extra points will show up as “Fast Starter Bonus,” and… wait, that’s now!

Before I run off to Helghan, you should know that this is only part of the Helghast war effort to rebuild good will on PlayStation platforms. Another measure, of course, will be the offering of a free copy of Killzone: Liberation for PSP owners as part of Sony’s Welcome Back initiative. You should be able to grab that when the PlayStation Store goes back up on May 24. The blog also mentions that “there’s more” but they’ll announce it at a later date. Until then, I’ll be on the Frozen Dam snatching silenced submachine gun headshots.

PEACE.

War rages on next week in Killzone 3 Steel Rain DLC

The PSN may be under attack, but that’s not stopping Sony and Guerilla Games from releasing the next batch of Killzone 3 map packs with the Steel Rain add-on DLC. The pack will include Junkyard, a Guerilla Warfare (Team Deathmatch) locale set in the MAWL Graveyard, but in the rain with jetpacks and EXO mechs. Stahl Arms takes place in, you guessed it, the epicenter of Helghan’s military industrial complex and will be playable in Warzone. You can grab them for $4.99 when the PlayStation Store updates next Tuesday April 12.

There’s only one problem. The day-one DLC, Reclaimed Territory, maps are not in the playlist rotation and if you land in a game with either map, you can’t vote to change the setting next game. Hopefully this issue will be resolved come next week.

Warp Zoned Wish List: What We Want From Killzone 4

After four intense games, it’s time to give the Helghast and ISA forces a break. Indeed, Guerilla Games has already hinted that they are preparing to move on to a new IP. However, the universe is still expanding with the live action short that recently released, as well as the novel Killzone: Ascendancy. It would be a shame to leave the game side dormant for too long, so we look ahead to the future with what we’d enjoy seeing in Killzone 4. (more…)

“Killzone Universe” shows a different side of Helghan

Sony has been working hard to expand the Killzone universe, including through a detailed backstory, a series of novels and a new short film posted on the PlayStation.Blog.

“Killzone Universe” is said to tell the tale of two friends, one on Vekta and one on Helghan, before the war began. The war hasn’t started yet, but the two friends comes from different backgrounds and their separation causes them to become increasingly alienated from one another.

Give it a watch for another take on the Killzone universe.
