Soda Drinker Pro announced for the Xbox One

It blows my mind that Soda Drinker Pro is a real game and not some kind of insane April Fool’s joke. Unless it’s both. Whatever it is, Soda Drinker Pro is about to get more real as developer Will Brierly has announced that he plans to bring it to the Xbox One (with full Kinect support) in the very near future.

Soda Drinker Pro on the Xbox One will include the 100 original soda drinking simulations as well as 10 bonus levels exclusive to the Xbox One. Also on tap for the next-generation port is a “hyper-realistic simulation mode,” Achievements, and “other surprises.” One of those surprises is the inclusion of a “500% larger version” of Brierly’s previous game, Vivian Clark.

Brierly is bubbling over with excitement now that the news is official: “We are truly excited to have the opportunity to release Soda Drinker Pro for the Xbox One. We have been working hard to fine-tune the fluid dynamics, from the condensation on the cup to the carbonated bubbles that float up the straw, this is something we are so proud to release for the Xbox One!”

I admit, I don’t really get it. Perhaps Soda Drinker Pro is just an absurd entryway into the much more surreal Vivian Clark. But somebody must understand it, as Brierly posed with Soda Drinker Pro cosplayers who attended this past weekend’s PAX East convention.

Super Time Force will be released in “late May/early June”

supertimeforce-header

Joystiq caught up with Nathan Vella, the President of Capybara Games, at PAX East 2014 and they managed to get him to talk about the release window of Super Time Force. According to Vella, the game will be submitted to Microsoft for certification soon and, because there’s no multiplayer mode and just a single Leaderboard, it should sail through rather quickly. So he expects the game to be available for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 sometime in “late May or early June.”

Super Time Force has suffered multiple delays over the last year, but Vella also said they were needed to create the kind of game players expected to play: “It was always cool, the original game jam game was cool, but what we’ve turned it into is what I think people expected when they saw the very first trailer.”

Firaxis announces Civilization: Beyond Earth at PAX East 2014

2K Games previously promised that the next game from Firaxis would be revealed at this year’s PAX East convention and the publisher and developer did not disappoint. During Saturday’s Firaxis panel, the developer revealed Civilization: Beyond Earth, a spiritual successor to their 1999 title Alpha Centauri. Firaxis was unable to use the Alpha Centauri name for Beyond Earth because the rights currently reside with Electronic Arts, the game’s publisher.

“The heart and soul [of Alpha Centauri] lives at Firaxis. For all the fans of Alpha Centauri, this is the game we’ve made for you,” Co-Lead Designer Will Miller said during the panel.

Civilization: Beyond Earth will feature a unique “skill web” system for its science fiction concepts, which will result in the creation of radically different civilizations as players replay the game over and over again. As of now, the game is expected to be available this Fall on the PC.

The first TitanFall expansion will be known as “Expedition”

titanfall-header

The Respawn Entertainment panel at this year’s PAX East convention included a brand new tidbit of information about TitanFall that fans of the game may be interested in: details on the game’s first expansion. Known as “Expedition,” the first map pack for the game will be available this May and it will include three new maps: “Runoff,” “Swamplands,” and “Wargames.”

In the wake of the Battle of Demeter, IMC Expeditionary Forces travel deep into Frontier space to recover from their recent defeat. On an uncharted world, the IMC begin construction of a new fleet operations base, using newly acquired water collection and filtration plants to support the new base. When drainage operations reveal ancient ruins and artifacts of an unknown origin in a nearby swamp, Spyglass activates an archaeological team to investigate the site. To maintain battle readiness at the new base, IMC Pilots use simulation pods to train for anticipated Militia raids, based on lessons learned in Angel City and IMC Airbase Sierra.

TitanFall: Expedition will be the first of three downloadable expansions for the game. The expansion will be released for the Xbox One and PC, as well as the Xbox 360. It will carry a $9.99 price tag on all three platforms, unless you purchased the TitanFall Season Pass, which includes access to all three packs for a discounted price ($24.99).

The Behemoth announces “Game 4” at PAX East 2014 with a shirt… or do they?

behemothgame4questionmarkThe Behemoth had a very strange shirt available for sale in their booth at this weekend’s PAX East event. The crimson t-shirt showed a cupcake riding a woman/spider hybrid. For some reason, a spoon-shaped scooper that looks to be holding ice cream is also involved. To top it off, this surreal image carries the caption, “Game 4?”

According to Destructoid, the question mark signifies that the shirt may not have anything to do with The Behemoth’s next game. The currently untitled “Game 4” might star the spider woman or it might all just be an elaborate practical joke from a company best known for their sense of humor. Whatever the case may be, Destructoid has learned that the game is in development for the Xbox One and that The Behemoth plans to reveal more at this year’s Comic-Con and PAX Prime conventions.

The Behemoth will release BattleBlock Theater on Steam later this year, so don’t expect “Game 4” to stay exclusive to the Xbox One for long.

Secret Ponchos is “about three months” away from being released

paxeast2014I got a chance to play Switchblade Monkeys’ Secret Ponchos this morning at PAX East and, in addition to trying out a sword-wielding character known as “Matador,” I learned that the game is “about three months” from release.

Developer Caley Smyth said that Secret Ponchos will be released this Summer (sometime around July) for the PS4 and PC. Both versions will appear around the same time, though the PS4 version, which will launch as a PlayStation Plus freebie, may be released a few weeks earlier.

We’ll have more from PAX East 2014 all weekend.

The Evil Within’s PAX East trailer is full of horrific images

Shinji Mikami and the rest of the Tango Gameworks team are attempting to create something truly scary with The Evil Within. And if the PAX East 2014 trailer they released this morning is any indication, it’ll scare us silly.

The trailer is absolutely packed with blood and gore and the freaky residents of Beacon Mental Hospital. If you’re eating breakfast, I’d suggest watching this trailer after you’re done. It also reintroduces us to “The Boxman,” a deranged butcher who will be the star of Bethesda’s live demo presentation of The Evil Within during this weekend’s PAX East convention.

The Evil Within will be released for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on August 26.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel URL discovered; game rumored to be in development at 2K Aus

borderlands-11Back in February, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford told Polygon that Borderlands 3 is definitely not in development at the developer. But that doesn’t preclude a different team from working on a sorta-sequel.

British retailer GamePointsNow has revealed that they somehow learned that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, a new game that takes place between the first and second games, is in development for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 at 2K Australia:

Set on the moon of Elpis and Hyperions ominous H shaped moon base, the game sees Handsome Jack in the days when he was just a humble programmer called John, hunting a powerful alien artefact (what else!!). Players will be able to select one of Jack/Johns four lieutenants to play as in Athena The Gladiator, Wilhelm The Enforcer, Nisha The Lawbringer and Fragtrap, a militarised claptrap.

Since Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel takes place on a moon, the lower gravity and lack of oxygen will effect combat in a big way. Players will be required to keep track of how much oxygen they have left (Doom 3 featured a similar mechanic) and enemies can be instantly incapacitated if they’re deprived of their air supply. The reduced gravity also opens up the game to jetpacks and encourages players to blast their foes into the stratosphere with a well-placed grenade. And what would a new Borderlands game be without a few new weapons? This set of Vault Hunters will be outfitted with Moonraker-like lasers (naturally) and a “Cryo” freeze ray.

GamePointsNow was unable to narrow down a release date for Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, but they guessed that a Fall launch seems most reasonable as the game is said to be in development for previous-generation consoles. And with Gearbox more-than-likely set to announce a new game at PAX East 2014, I’m pretty confident the Pre-Sequel is a real thing.

Lending further truth to the rumor is a Whois lookup for BorderlandsThePreSequel.com. The highly unusual domain was registered on March 24, just in time for this weekend’s PAX East convention.
