Recent Articles: The Amazing Spider-Man
If, for some insane reason, you own a PS3 and have yet to play Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune or Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Sony is giving you another chance by adding both titles to the PlayStation Store today. Hmm, I’m a PS3 owner who’s never played either, maybe this was meant for me.
Another new release that was clearly meant for me is Resident Evil Chronicles: HD Collection. The compilation bundles together The Umbrella Chronicles and The Darkside Chronicles, two light gun games that were previously exclusive to the Wii.
Sony’s not done as they’ve also added movie tie-in game The Amazing Spider-Man, food preparation sim Order Up!!, offroad racer Jeremy Mcgrath’s Offroad and PSone Classic The Little Mermaid II.
Finally, the PSP RPG Unchained Blades, which was developed by the makers of Grandia and Lunar, has been added to the PlayStation Store today.
Spider-Man, Spider-Man. Does whatever a spider can. Spins a web, any size. Catches thieves, just like flies. You’ll see him next in The Amazing Spider-Man.
That’s right, the wallcrawler will make his glorious return to video games this week with the 3DS, DS, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 adaptation of the soon-to-be hit movie. Look out! Here comes the Spider-Man.

Not content with his various cameos in Marvel’s plethora of superhero films, comic legend Stan Lee is gearing up for his first playable appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man game. Available only as a pre-order bonus through Amazon, Stan “The Man” will exhibit all of Peter Parker’s webslinging abilities as he attempts to track down the missing pages of a new comic script that are blowing across the Big Apple.
“I really think the fans will love it,” says the ever smiling creator of Spider-Man and many others. “They seem to enjoy my cameos in the movies, and this takes it a step further.”
Fans will have to wait until July 3 to find out what part he plays in The Amazing Spider-Man film.
This week’s Nintendo Download includes another major 3DS demo. Today, gamers will be able to experience the handheld adventures of The Amazing Spider-Man before he swings his way into stores on June 26.
But that’s not all, Nintendo has also added a ton of classic games to their three download services today:
Donkey Kong Jr. (3DS eShop) - In this timeless classic, clamber up vines and chains and gather vital fruit and keys to free your father, Donkey Kong, who’s been imprisoned by Mario.
Mad Dog McCree (3DS eShop) - When the ruthless outlaw Mad Dog McCree goes on a rampage with a nasty pack ofwanted fugitives, they leave death in their wake. The only gunslinger who can stop them is you.
Mega Man X2 (Wii Virtual Console) - Fresh from defeating Sigma and his Mavericks, Mega Man X tracks down the remaining rogue Reploids to an abandoned factory where they are continuing their rebellion. While Mega Man X is kept busy by eight new Mavericks, a new threat plots to resurrect a secret weapon that is all too familiar.
Devil Band: Rock the Underworld (DSiWare) - Millions of demons and monsters emerge from the earth, destroying everything on their wake. Xavier, the most popular (and most evil) Death Metal rock band around the world, might be the only hope for the mankind…
7 Wonders II (DSiWare) - Match three to help your workers build the unbelievable sights from Stonehenge to the Taj Mahal.
Stan “The Man” Lee is about to star in his greatest cameo to date… as a playable character in The Amazing Spider-Man. Players who pre-order the PS3 or Xbox 360 version of the game from Amazon will receive a code to unlock the “Stan Lee Adventure Pack.”
The “Stan Lee Adventure Pack” will send the comic creator webslinging across Manhattan, searching for the lost pages from his latest script. Lee will provide some of his trademark witticisms (“Excelsior!” and such) to make the bonus level even more authentic (Stan Lee has spider-powers, right?).
GameStop has also announced a pre-order offer of their own for The Amazing Spider-Man, a special missions starring The Rhino. “The Rhino Challenge” stars the hulking villain and asks players to rampage through New York trying to cause as much damage as possible. Like the Stan Lee Adventure Pack, the Rhino Challenge is also limited to pre-orderers of the PS3 and Xbox 360 version.
Sadly for GameStop, I think I know which mission gamers will be much more interested in and it ain’t The Rhino Challenge.
Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever… Activision makes him do. Hmm, that doesn’t quite work. But no matter, true believers! We have a new trailer featuring The Amazing Spider-Man.
This Summer’s movie of the same name will feature Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) wooing Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), booing Captain George Stacy (Denis Leary), and battling The Lizard (Rhys Ifans). And in the trailer above, we get our first look at The Iguana, a mutated iguana that, according to Marvel lore, was created when Dr. Curt Connors first transformed himself into The Lizard.
The Iguana? Seriously? Apparently, he has the same powers as The Lizard, but he can also hypnotize people. Man, the 70s were a weird time for comics weren’t they?
But no matter! The Amazing Spider-Man will be available for the 3DS, DS, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 on June 26. Excelsior! And such.
When you think of Spider-Man’s greatest villains, The Rhino is not usually a name that comes to mind. So naturally, developer Beenox gave him the Bane treatment in their game adaptation of The Amazing Spider-Man.
In addition to a very menacing Rhino and a creepy soundtrack, the new trailer above also reveals that The Amazing Spider-Man will be available in stores on June 26 for the 3DS, DS, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.
The movie tie-in game may be slowly dying, but don’t blame it on The Amazing Spider-Man. Your friendly, neighborhood wallcrawler will star in a rebooted movie franchise next July and Activision’s tie-in game will open after the events of the Andrew Garfield/Emma Stone-starring film. It seems that Norman Osborn and the mad scientists at Oscorp have unleashed the Spider Slayers on Manhattan to stop “biological attacks” (read: mutated heroes like Spider-Man and villains like The Lizard). The Slayers promptly go bonkers and Peter Parker has to pick a fight and punch out some robots.
The Amazing Spider-Man will be available in Summer 2012 for the 3DS, DS, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360. Hit the jump to view the full trailer. (more…)
