Capcom cuts staff at Capcom Vancouver to “streamline” the unannounced Dead Rising 5

The expanding scope of Dead Rising 5 (which has yet to be officially announced) has caused Capcom to layoff around 75 employees at Capcom Vancouver.

First reported by Kotaku, the publisher hoped the layoffs would “streamline the company” and “wrangle the next Dead Rising.” With Dead Rising 5 going back to the drawing board, it might be awhile before we get our first glimpse at the sequel.

However, this restructuring also lead to the cancellation of a second unannounced game at Capcom Vancouver, which wasn’t part of the Dead Rising franchise:

The unannounced game, which was a very early prototype and had not yet been greenlit, was envisioned as a third-person action-adventure game set in an alternate reality version of New York, the source said.

Good luck to all those at Capcom Vancouver affected by the layoffs.
