Diablo III is unofficially officially coming to Xbox One

Officially, Diablo III‘s exclusive next-generation home is the PS4. But unofficially, the game’s Lead Producer, Alex Mayberry, has told VideoGamer that the game is definitely coming to the Xbox One as well:
“I don’t know where we are with Microsoft right now so I can’t really comment on what that contract looks like,” Diablo 3 lead producer Alex Mayberry explained to us this morning while discussing tomorrow’s launch of Reaper of Souls. “The point is we are developing for Xbox [One] and PS4 simultaneously. We hit those major platforms and then our goal as a development team is to make them run.”
Because of the ongoing contract discussions, the only thing that Mayberry can officially say is that Diablo III might never be released on the Xbox One. That said, development on both versions of the game is being done at the same time within Blizzard, so a simultaneous launch (similar to the PS3 and Xbox 360 release of Diablo III) isn’t out of the question.
Diablo III: Reaper of Souls will be released for the PC tomorrow. According to Mayberry, the PS4’s Ultimate Evil Edition “[isn’t] too far off.”

Chris Hardwick is lending his voice to a “funny” game sequel

Chris Hardwick, creator of The Nerdist and the host of @Midnight and Talking Dead, is moving into video games. Specifically, he’s lending his voice to one:
Just finished the 2nd of many recording sessions for a video game. Can't say what yet, but it's REALLY fun, funny and part of a series…
— Chris Hardwick (@nerdist) March 23, 2014
So who wants to speculate on what funny game franchise Hardwick could be involved with? We know Tim Schafer is hard at work on Broken Age Act 2 and it’s suspected that Valve has the humorous Portal 3 in development somewhere within their secret catacombs. Another possibility is the new Saints Row game that Jay Mohr is connected to. And even though it would be funny for fans, I don’t think it’s a spot in the next episode of Telltale’s second season of The Walking Dead. Call me crazy.
But all three of those comedic franchises would definitely fit Hardwick’s vocal and comedic stylings well. And I’m sure I missed several strong possibilities. Hopefully we’ll find out soon.

Blizzard @ PAX East 2014: Heroes of the Storm, Diablo III PS4, Hearthstone, WoW: Draenor
Blizzard will have plenty to showcase at this year’s PAX East expo, including playable demos of the PS4 port of Diablo III, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, and World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor.
Players who get a chance to visit booth #848 will be able to play as The Crusader in Diablo III’s “Ultimate Evil Edition” with a DualShock 4 controller for the first time. If they slide over to the WoW: Warlords of Draenor demo, they will experience “updated character models” and the expansion’s “intro experience.” A brand-new demo of Heroes of the Storm will also be on hand, with never-before-seen heroes to try out. And finally, the iPad edition of Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft will be playable at Blizzard’s booth.
As always, PAX East will be held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. This year’s expo will begin on Friday, April 11 and run through Sunday, April 13.

Weekly Warp-Up: GDC 2014 in Review Edition
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
The 2014 edition of the Game Developers Conference took place this week and, as always, it held a few nifty surprises:
- Sony unveiled their virtual reality headset, which is currently known as Project Morpheus. The publisher also confirmed it won’t be out in 2014 and that it will be priced under $1,000.
- Keiji Inafune and Comcept gave us an extended look at Mighty No. 9.
- WB Games announced a Gauntlet reboot, which will be available exclusively through Steam.
- And speaking of Steam, Valve lifted the curtain on the latest revision to the Steam Controller.
- Finally, The Last of Us won “Game of the Year” honors at this year’s GDC Awards and Papers Please took home the “Seumas McNally Grand Prize” at the 2014 Independent Games Festival.
But don’t worry, even with all this GDC news, the Warp Zoned staff kept plenty busy. To celebrate this week’s release of InFamous: Second Son, Andrew Rainnie explored the franchise’s beginning in It Came From 200X! The InFamous Series. We’ve also got reviews of two of this month’s other big games, Yoshi’s New Island and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Finally this week, I’d like to introduce you to Continue Countdown, our brand new discussion roundtable show. In the premiere episode, the Warp Zoned staff got together to talk about Project Morpheus, a Last of Us movie, The Stick of Truth, and much more. Check it out!
All of this week’s non-GDC news can be found after the break. (more…)

If dungeon-crawling RPGs aren’t you thing, this week also sees the release of BlazBlue: Chronophantasma (PS3), the latest fighting game from Arc System Works, and Deception IV: Blood Ties, the latest game in the cultish trap-filled strategy series.

Sledgehammer says Call of Duty 2014 is “ambitious” and “creative”
Activision typically uses the month of May to announce a new Call of Duty game, but that didn’t stop Sledgehammer Games’ Glen Schofield from talking about the latest entry in the franchise during last week’s Game Developers Conference.
Sledgehammer’s General Manager stated that the currently untitled game (known internally as Call of Duty 2014) is the “most ambitious, most creative game we’ve ever made.” Along with partner Michael Condrey, Schofield’s track record at Sledgehammer includes 2011’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, as well as an unreleased third person action game set within the Call of Duty world. The pair first worked together at EA, where they produced James Bond 007: From Russia With Love and the much-loved Dead Space. A short “in-game character image” from Call of Duty 2014 accompanied Schofield’s words, but it’s probably going to be a while before we see anything more than that.
Call of Duty 2014 marks Sledgehammer’s first time as the primary developer on a game in the series. In February, Activision confirmed that the series would be moving to a “three-year cycle” with Sledgehammer switching off with Infinity Ward and Treyarch to develop new games in the Call of Duty franchise.

Robotoki will use CryEngine to develop Human Element for PC, PS4, Xbox One
Robotoki and Robert Bowling, Infinity Ward’s former Community Manager, are hard at work on Human Element, their first game. Yesterday, Bowling confirmed that Human Element will be developed using Crytek’s CryEngine as well revealed the game’s launch plans.
Human Element is currently in development for the PC and will be released in November 2015 (so says Bowling via Twitter). In addition to the PC version, the game is in the works for next-generation consoles (specifically the PS4 and Xbox One), but it is unknown when the console edition will be available. A mobile spinoff of the open world game where players are tasked with rebuilding the world 35 years after a zombie uprising is also in development.
“The ambitious narrative and gameplay of Human Element required an innovative set of features in order to achieve our vision.” said Bowling. “CryEngine is the perfect fit for us because it delivers so many powerful features straight out of the box such as the physical based shading system and the infinite terrain from segmented worlds to create a massive open world experience but still allow the visual fidelity and detail our players expect from a first person experience from our team.”
Bowling also confirmed (again via Twitter) that a Human Element prequel originally in development for the Ouya has been canceled.
Ubisoft confirms Assassin’s Creed: Unity will take place during French Revolution
Kotaku recently posted a report revealing the French Revolution setting of the next Assassin’s Creed game. Believed to be codenamed “Unity,” their source stated the game was only in development for next-generation systems and that it would be released this Fall.
This morning, Ubisoft confirmed that the next game in the series will be titled Assassin’s Creed: Unity and that it will be set during the French Revolution. Unity has been in development for over three years and it is currently scheduled to be released during this year’s holiday season.
The publisher also released a short teaser trailer for the game, which you can view above.
