Two new games have made the Xbox Live Arcade a more retro-tastic place today.
First up is Serious Sam Double D XXL, a side-scrolling shooter based on the popular Serious Sam series. Like it’s first person shooter sibling, Double D XXL isn’t at all serious and promises crazy things like a chainsaw yo-yo and a butter gun.
Serious Sam Double D XXL is available to download for 800 Microsoft Points ($10):
Serious Sam explodes into the second dimension using everything in his arsenal to battle the legions of Mental’s horde. Let the heavy ordinance fly in this side-scrolling shooter featuring all the over-the-top action of the Serious Sam series. Stack guns one on top of the other, up to 6 GUNS HIGH, and take down unrelenting waves of beasts. Bring a friend for two-player action, and upgrade your guns to fire deadly acid rockets, cybernetic bees, chainsaw yo-yos, even pats of butter and much more!
Also available this week is the first installment in the Capcom Arcade Cabinet. The “1987 Pack” includes 1943: Battle of Midway, Black Dragon, and Avengers. It can be had for a handful of quarters or 400 Microsoft Points or $5:
Capcom’s pedigree arcade games are back! Take on players from around the world in “score attack” and even play together with online co-op! (Only for titles that support this feature.) Check out these classic games, now loaded with a “casual mode” geared towards newcomers and other new features. Try out Black Dragon, 1943 and Avengers!

Rumor: PS4 launching in November at $429 and $529
Here it is, the final rumor ahead of Sony’s expected PlayStation 4/Orbis reveal tomorrow night.
Kotaku is reporting that an inside source has informed them that the PS4 will launch in November of this year at two separate price points: $429 and $529. According to Kotaku’s tipster, the retail price of the PS4 won’t be announced until after E3, and how the two packages will differ is currently unkownn.
In addition to the price and the launch date, the source revealed that Sony will begin charging for their online service. The current plan is to phase out most aspects of the free service and replace the newly beefed-up PlayStation Plus with a new subscription service dubbed PlayStation World.
Finally, Kotaku’s source has said that every PS4 will come bundled with a PlayStation Eye, every game will include a spectator mode, and the system will be controllable with a SmartGlass-like tablet/phone app.
Remember to check back tomorrow at 6 PM (Eastern Time) to see how many of these rumors turn out to be true.

PSN Today: Crysis 3, Capcom Arcade Cabinet: 1987, Patapon 3, More

This week’s PlayStation Store update was a bit late on the upload, but I suppose Sony can be forgiven. After all, tomorrow is a big day for the consolemaker.
The big new addition in today’s update is definitely Crysis 3. Crytek’s first person shooter series returns to the PS3 with a new locale (Rainforest New York City!) and a wild new weapon (The Predator Bow!). It can yours for the standard new game price of $59.99.
Also available this week is the first installment in the Capcom Arcade Cabinet. The “1987 Pack” includes 1943: Battle of Midway, Black Dragon, and Avengers.
Finally, portable players will be happy to know that the Vita game Patapon 3 and two PSP games, Hakuoki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi and Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection, are available to download now.
A complete list of this week’s new games can be found after the break and a complete list of this week’s new game add-ons (including Skyrim‘s “Hearthfire” content) can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)
The Essential Guide to Next-Generation Games: Version 1.0

With the Wii U already in stores and Sony set to announce the first details of the PlayStation 4/Orbis tomorrow, I think it’s safe to say that the next generation of consoles is upon us. But what games will this brave new world bring us? For now, most of the titles that will be available for the PS4 and Xbox 720/Durango are shrouded in mystery. Even the majority of the Wii U’s 2013 lineup is one big question mark.
Thankfully, your friendly neighborhood Warp Zoned editors have compiled a status report on 67 next-generation games known to be in existence. You can read all about our findings, after the break. (more…)
First Murdered: Soul Suspect trailer asks you to solve your own murder
“The hardest murder to solve is your own.”
That’s the premise behind Square Enix’s latest game, Murdered: Soul Suspect. The vague and moody trailer above hints at a ghostly explanation for a man’s murder and the supernatural means he’ll employ to solve his own untimely demise. Or maybe not. Remember, moody, but also vague.
Murdered: Soul Suspect is now in development for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. It’ll likely be released sometime this year.

Hotline Miami calls on the PS3, Vita this Spring

Dennaton Games has announced they plan to bring the pixelated bloodshed of Hotline Miami to the PS3 and Vita this Spring.
“Our team have been fans of Hotline Miami from the very start and we are absolutely thrilled to have such a brilliant game launch on the PlayStation platform,” said Shahid Ahmad, the Senior Business Development Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. “The intense visuals and pulsing soundtrack are perfectly suited for PS3 and PS VIta and we can’t wait for PlayStation fans to see what Hotline Miami is all about.”
The stylish overhead shooter will be ported to the PS3 and Vita by Abstraction Games. And as with many of this year’s PSN games, it’ll be available as a PS3/Vita Cross-Buy title. So if you buy one, you’ll get both.

Some people out there still love the Vita as the Writers Guild of America has bestowed the 2013 Writers Guild Award for Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing on the scribes who penned Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation. So congratulations need to go out to scriptwriters Richard Farrese and Jill Murray.
Liberation triumphed over several higher-profile nominees including its console big brother, Assassin’s Creed III, as well as 007 Legends, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, Halo 4, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
