3DS gets Code of Princess on October 9; Meet the cast in this new trailer

Code of Princess is coming to the 3DS in North America, thanks to Atlus. The beat-em-up RPG was developed by Agatsuma Entertainment and Bones, and has some very interesting characters. Check out the video to see each one in action, including my favorite, Zozo. She’s not a zombie, she’s a necromancer. Get it straight!

Code of Princess will be available on October 9 for the 3DS. Pre-order now and you’ll get some extra goodies. Who doesn’t love goodies?

PC version of Sleeping Dogs has a few extra studs on its collar

According to that video, Sleeping Dogs is going to look awesome on PC. Not that it doesn’t look awesome on consoles. I guess you could say it’s going to look awesomer, if that’s a legitimate word. The PC version of the game will come with a high resolution texture pack, which is set to “amp up the world to new levels of realism, transforming Hong Kong into a completely immersive world,” according to Square Enix.

Absurdly rad graphics isn’t all you’re getting, though. Pre-ordering the game on Steam gets you eight new Sleeping Dogs items in the Team Fortress 2 Triad Pack. Heavies will have the ability to breathe fire, scouts will have a cleaver, spies will have more covert spy abilities, and the pyros will have a neon sign for head-conking. Add in tattoos, swag, new hats, and a King of the Hill map inspired by the very streets of Hong Kong, and you’ve got a weird marriage that I don’t understand at all.

Square Enix has also released the system requirements for Sleeping Dogs’ PC version, which can be found after the break. Sleeping Dogs will be out on August 14 for the PC, with PS3 and Xbox 360 versions also available. (more…)

Grid 2 skids into stores in 2013

Codemasters has announced Grid 2, sequel to 2008’s Race Driver: Grid. It’s now in full development after two years of pre-production, and will have an “expansive” career mode.

Clive Moody, Executive Producer, said, “Grid’s back and we’re going to make street, track and road racing exciting again. The core design philosophy for Grid 2 is that we treat the race as a character, not a consequence of simply putting cars on tracks. Everything that goes into the game impacts on that second-to-second, in the moment, blockbuster drama – the feel and personality of the race. We’re pushing boundaries once again with what can be accomplished in the genre via new tools, technology and innovations. In single-player, split-screen and online, the next-generation of the EGO Game Technology Platform will power graphics, AI, handling and damage advancements that will immerse players in the racing experience like never before. Like its predecessor, Grid 2 will put the sheer thrill and adrenaline rush of the race at the heart of the experience. It’s what we call Total Race Day Immersion.”

That’s a mouthful. Grid 2 will be out in the summer of 2013 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Game Party Champions brings more minigames to Wii U launch

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced a new addition to the Game Party franchise, Game Party Champions. The minigame collection, which is set to be a Wii U launch title, will include hoop shoot, ping pong, skill ball, and table hockey. Are we having fun yet, people???

The game, which is being developed by Phosphor games, will have HD graphics, as well as three game modes – Quick Play, Story Mode, and Party Mode. The last mode has one player using the Wii U GamePad while the other players “grief” that player using WiiMotes. The press release actually says “grief (wreak havoc),” in case you were wondering.

Senior Vice President of Production and Development at Warner Bros., Samantha Ryan, had this to say: “Developed specifically for Wii U, Game Party Champions has a fun, pick up-and-play style that experienced and novice gamers will equally enjoy. Players can tilt, turn and swipe the Wii U’s revolutionary touch screen controller to play in entirely new ways.”

Perhaps all this innovation will help make Game Party Champions be more successful than the last three poorly-reviewed games in this series.

Daily Scoop: August 8, 2012 – Not a single deal was had

Last night was great! Thanks for asking, Internet. I finally got a chance to play the board game Galaxy Trucker, which was a blast. And speaking of blasts, we also played the Gold Edition of Frag, with the expansion. It was a terrific night all around!

Sadly, nothing is going on deals-wise today. Nada. Zip. Absolutely zilch-o. The whole world is waiting for next week, when our wallets will cry as we tote home Darksiders II, The Last Story, and Sleeping Dogs.

But what we do have quite a few of are t-shirts! (more…)

Ni-Oh is still in development

Ni-Oh, the action-adventure samurai game first announced by Koei seven long years ago at E3 2005 is, amazingly, still in development. According to Andriasang, Tecmo Koei’s CEO Yoichi Erikawa told Famitsu that development has finally been completed on the game’s alpha version. Ni-Oh is currently being developed by Team Ninja, and is making steady progress, Erikawa said in the interview.

The story is based on a once-lost script by acclaimed Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, and that alone is reason to be interested in this game. Add in Team Ninja and a long development cycle, and there’s potential here for unparalleled excellence.

Ubisoft confirms Wii U box art designs are “too legit to quit”

Remember that post yesterday about the leaked game covers for Wii U games? GameTrailers has confirmed that they are the real deal.

Michael Beadle, an Ubisoft PR rep, said “Why yes, the Wii U box art you sent is legit; in fact, it’s too legit to quit.”

Not only is that great news, now that song is going to be stuck in my head all day. Double bonus!

Rumor: Thief 4 sneaks onto next-generation consoles

Rumor has it that Thief 4 – spelled “Thi4f” here just to make our Editor-In-Chief, John Scalzo, twitch – won’t be out until late next year. This places it directly in the rumored launch window of the Xbox 720, also known as the “Durango.” If these rumors are to be believed – and the Computer and Video Games article indicates that the sources are accurate – then the game may very well be jumping straight to next-generation consoles.

Thief 4, which has been in development by Eidos Montreal for four years, has had a rocky cycle, with multiple high-level directors, designers, and artists leaving the project. Recent job listings for the developer indicate that the studio behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution is working on a game for the new generation. If these rumors are true, then they could be working on Thief 4 and not a new game in the Deus Ex series. Whatever the case may be, hopefully the new Thief game will be able to see the light of day.
