Daily Scoop: June 20, 2011 – Comic hangover
Here I am, exhausted with a smile on my face, hungover from how much fun I had at the convention. I got to see Adam Baldwin talk yesterday, and that was amazing! It made me want to go home and watch Jaynestown all over again.
Lots of great deals today! Ryan Littlefield’s obsession with Toys R Us pays off today, as he told me about this amazing sale: get any two of these games for $50. The list is:
- Brink
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- F.3.A.R.
- Mortal Kombat
- L.A. Noire
- Portal 2
The games are available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This is an AMAZING deal, especially considering F.3.A.R. isn’t even out yet. I mean, what?
Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is SVG Distribution’s Brunswick Pro Bowling for the Xbox 360. This Kinect-only game is $39.99 down from $49.99, and has “10 highly detailed bowling environments, each with unique lane characteristics” as well as “five game-play options including Exhibition, Skins and Tournament modes.” Word!
As for today’s daily t-shirt, well, I love dinosaurs, in case you couldn’t tell. Funny story: when I play multiplayer games with my microphone on, people can’t tell if I’m a girl or a 10-year-old boy. It doesn’t help that the emblem on my player card in Call of Duty: Black Ops is a t-rex. So yeah, it’s obvious why today’s shirt.w00t is so close to my heart:
The artist should totally make an anime con version of this shirt and call it “Glompasaurus Rex.” :D

Daily Scoop: June 17, 2011 – Yay comics!
Yay! It’s here! In an hour I’ll be at the Wizard World Comic Con, drinking in all the sights I’ve grown to love over the years. If you hear I’ve been arrested, it’s most likely because I’ve finally confessed my undying love to Bruce Campbell… or I caught sight of Brian Herbert and tackled him and chastised him on his horrible writing. Either way, send me letters in jail!
Not much in the way of deals, I’m afraid. Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Hori’s HD LCD Monitor 3 for the PlayStation 3. It looks nice and sharp, but even at the sale price of $189.99, it’s still pretty expensive.
No video game shirts today, but I’m a sucker for this origami dinosaur shirt that’s today’s Qwertee:
It’s dino-tastic!

Daily Scoop: June 16, 2011 – Wizard World Comic Con!
Tomorrow begins one of my favorite weekends of the year – Philadelphia’s Wizard World Comic Con! I’ve been attending it for 10 years now, and it’s a blast. This year they’ll have Bruce Campbell, Sean Patrick Flannery, Norman Reedus, and Adam Baldwin, along with a slew of other actors, comic book creators, and people dressed up in crazy costumes. If you’re in the area, come over to the convention center and check out all the fun!
The deals today are slim – Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Namco’s Active Life: Explorer With Mat for the Wii. It’s $23.99 down from $29.99 and describes the mat itself as a “specially-designed mat is bundled with the game so you can jump straight into the action.” OOH. FUN.
In other news, Ript‘s “Kent” is absolutely amazing:
Wow. Give me the Batman version of that and I’m all over it.

Daily Scoop: June 15, 2011 – D&D Encounters!
Ah, yes – it’s Wednesday again! And you know what that means… Mike Gutierrez and I will be heading out for some more D&D Encounters tonight. Things are getting heated… last time, we left the Shadowfell, but I have a feeling we’ll be getting sucked back in tonight…
Anyway, onto today’s deals! Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games is Disney’s TRON: Evolution for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It’s on sale today for $18.99 from $39.99, which is over 50% off. That’s a pretty good deal! Scoop it up if you couldn’t get enough of Olivia Wilde – this is your chance to spend some more time with her.
Amazon’s also having a great Buy One, Get One 50% Off sale, with tons of great games, some of which I spied in the clearance section yesterday. And don’t forget about the great Dads & Grads promo still going strong!
Today’s t-shirt goes out to all the hipsters. It’s up at Ript, and it’s called “Old School:”
I love it for its 8-bit sentiments, but I hate it for its retro snobbery. Oh, t-shirts.

Daily Scoop: June 14, 2011 – Duke Nukem Forever day
Hopefully you’re all at home, playing your copies of Duke Nukem Forever and weeping with joy. I wonder how many Duke-inspired sick days are happening right now?
In the off chance you’re checking the Internet, Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games – which is also today’s Gold Box deal – is none other than the amazing L.A. Noire. It’s $44.99 today for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. There’s a reason that it topped the NPD charts for May. Hell, I gave it five stars. So yeah, you should definitely take advantage of this deal!
Don’t forget to check out Amazon’s clearance games, too – there’s some good stuff on there, like the Ghostbusters the Video Game Amazon.com Exclusive Slimer Edition, which includes – duh! – a Slimer statue.
If you’re in the market for a new game-themed t-shirt, Qwertee has you covered:
This mashup is aptly named “Vitruvian Mon.” Ha!

Daily Scoop: June 13, 2011 – Duke Nukem Forever tomorrow!
Tomorrow’s the big day, everyone. It’s the day so many of you have been waiting for. The day that Duke Nuken Forever launches. As Editor-in-Chief John Scalzo mentioned, the wait has been long: 14 years, 1 month and 17 days. Hopefully the wait was worth it.
Anyway, we’ve got some deals for you. Today’s Deal of the Day in video games at Amazon is EA’s Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 12: The Masters for the Wii. It’s $29.96, and allows you to “Play like a true pro with a caddie alongside, assisting and supporting your every swing.” Wow. Said caddie will also “evaluate all pre-shot factors, such as wind, lie, and yardage, to provide a recommended shot.” There’s definitely a joke in there about lying to his wife, but I think everyone’s over Tiger Woods jokes by now, right?
Also up today is the last week of Amazon’s Dads & Grads promotion, which is “Next Generation Console & PC Deals.” Portal 2 is $29.99 for PC (and $39.96 for PS3 and $39.99 for Xbox 360), Halo Reach is $39.90, and James Bond 007: Blood Stone is $14.99 (Xbox 360 only). Scoop ’em up!
In the t-shirt world, today’s Ript shirt is called “Birds of War” and is an Angry Birds/Gears of War mashup:
The Ukrainian artist says it is a “shirt for those who like ‘Gears of War’ and ‘Angry birds’ and can not give preference to any.” Yeah, what he said.

Wii U demo reel footage was from PC, PS3, Xbox 360
Nintendo of America’s president, Reggie Fils-Aime, admitted in an interview to GameTrailers (full interview above) that the footage used in their demo reel was from the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions of those games. “We’re talking a year away from when the system’s going to launch,” Fils-Aime said as the reason for using the footage. The footage included Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Darksiders II, and other footage shown during the press conference included Battlefield 3 (which hasn’t been formally announced for the Wii U by anyone). The games looked fantastic… but they weren’t being run on Nintendo’s hardware.
I’m not entirely sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, Microsoft and Sony have bought been caught running games on other systems and showing the footage off as their own, but that still doesn’t make Nintendo’s subterfuge ok. On the other hand, this is a misleading and dishonest way to promote the new console, but at least Nintendo came right out and admitted it after the fact. The whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth. Perhaps a reasonable price tag on the Wii U will get rid of that.
