Prepare to feel sad again… here’s the Dead Island: Riptide debut trailer

Well, that was depressing.

Deep Silver’s sequel to Dead Island, Dead Island: Riptide, is scheduled to be out sometime in 2013. Until then, get super bummed out from this trailer, and the premise of the game:

Furious monsoon rainstorms have laid waste to the island of Palanai in the Banoi archipelago, waters have risen and caused a flood disaster — because of this and the raging zombie invasion, a rescue mission for the survivors seems to be without prospect of success. All hope seems to have been lost for the surviving humans…

Whatever. Zombies!

PlayStation Plus coming to Vita in November

Life is about to get awesome for PlayStation Vita owners – this November, we’ll have access to PlayStation Plus, Sony’s members-only club that gives early and/or exclusive access to betas, demos, and games. If you’re already a member, you’ll be automatically enrolled for the Vita as well, at no extra cost (PS Plus is $49.99/year). This is good news, as I don’t think there are many of us who would be willing to pay even more to have the same benefits on another platform. Willing to pay without complaining, that is.

According to the PlayStation Blog, the benefits that will launch in November are:

  • Instant Game Collection: Unlimited access to a regularly refreshed selection of the full versions of games as long as your membership is active.
  • Discounts: Take advantage of exclusive discounts on games and DLC for your PS Vita.
  • Online Game Storage: An additional 1GB of online storage for game saves for PS Vita games and downloaded content.
  • Automatic Updates: PS Vita will automatically start up at a designated time to download and install select game demos and game updates as well as system software updates and start standby mode upon completion.
  • Automatic Trophy sync: Trophy information will be synched to PSN servers automatically via the PS Vita.

Whew! That’s a lot of good stuff for a piece of technology that has had a mediocre reception at best. I know I’ll dust mine off once November rolls around… well, ok, maybe sooner for LittleBigPlanet Vita. We’ll see.

Generation of Chaos 6 to be released in US in February

NIS America is always up to something… or several somethings. On top of bringing Hyperdimension Neputunia V to America, they’ve also just announced they’ll be bringing Generation of Chaos 6 for the PSP as well. In America, the game will be retitled Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection.

Here’s the story thus far:

Dark clouds blanket the withered skies and block out the sun; cracked earth and choking fog rule the land. This colorless world, showing no signs of life, is known as Hades. The barren land is blasted by chilling winds that cut to the bone… This is where we meet our heroes—Yuri, a young girl cursed with a disease draining her life away; and Claude, her protective older brother who will stop at nothing to save her. As they travel in search of a cure, they find themselves embroiled in a conflict that will determine the fate of the world and, just maybe, the fate of the siblings. They’ll lose old friends, meet new friends, and travel on a path that will lead them to the very doorstep of destiny…

The real-time strategy of the battle system will allow you to set up your battlefield with your units to take over key locations – you know, all the RTS fun you’re used to. As you defeat enemies, you gain Alchemy Points, which can be spent on upgrades for your characters and weapons.

Look for Generation of Chaos: Pandora’s Reflection on the PlayStation Network in February 2013.

Zone of the Enders HD lands in October bundled with Metal Gear Rising demo

As Shirley Bassey once sang, “It’s all just a little bit of history repeating.” Just as the original Zone of the Enders was released on the PlayStation 2 with a demo of Metal Gear Solid 2, Konami’s upcoming Zone of the Enders HD Collection will parallel its predecessor by bringing with it a demo of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance when it splashes onto the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on October 30th in North America and Canada. Konami has yet to announce a European release date, although several UK retailers have it listed with a January, 18 2013 release date.

The demo will be available on its own post-release, although no specifics were given as to when this might be. Given that Raiden will not be debuting until February though, if you wish to play the demo this side of Christmas, it is probably a fair bet that the Zone of the Enders HD Collection will be the only way to do so.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory is coming to America

If you ever wanted to take the crazy Hyperdimension Neptunia trip into the 80s, now is your chance! Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory – known in Japan as Neptunia V – will be coming to America in spring of 2013.

Neptune will be back, but this time, she gets sent to the 80s version of Gamindustri. And guess what… there are lots of costume options! I know, you’re shocked.

NIS America will also be making a Neptunia iPhone app, which will allow you to do some pretty wacky stuff, like take pictures with Neptunia and Noire, as well as use them as an alarm clock. Oh, NISA! You’re adorable. Check out the game’s website for more info.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter open beta available on Xbox 360 in early October

Xbox 360 owners are in for a treat in early October. They’ll be getting exclusive access to the Medal of Honor: Warfighter open beta.

Players will be able to play as soldiers from ten different nations, including the British SAS, German KSK, Korean UDT, Russian Spetsnaz Alfa Group, and U.S. Navy Seals. It will be running on the Frostbite 2 game engine. Fans of 2010’s Medal of Honor reboot will be eager to see the changes here.

The beta will include a new multiplayer mode called HotSpot. Played on the Sarajevo Stadium map in Bosnia, this mode allows players to attack or defend locations that are randomly selected. This mode is inspired by actual operations, and players are paired through the new Fireteam system.

Depending on how many people download the beta, EA will unlock the “Castle of Glass” music video by Linkin Park. If three million people download it, the video – which is a collaboration between Linkin Park and Danger Close Games – will be released. I really don’t think this will be a driving force for anyone to download the beta… no offense, LP.

Medal of Honor Warfighter will be out on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on October 23.
