New Retail Releases: Mega Man 11, Super Mario Party, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, More

The Blue Bomber has been sleeping for the better part of a decade, but Capcom’s venerable mascot will finally return in a new platforming adventure this week for the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. Mega Man 11 was developed internally at Capcom, and it features a brand new art style, eight never-before-seen Robot Masters, and a handful of new gameplay mechanics that should keep “Mega Fans” on their toes. In addition to its retail launch, Mega Man 11 will also be available to download for the PC.

Several other major franchises will also be making a return this week, and that includes Super Mario Party, the latest addition to Nintendo’s madcap multiplayer series. This time around, Switch owners get to try out Board Game Mode when battling friends, as well as tackle new minigames in Mariothon and Online Mariothon.

If you’re not a Switch owner yet (or you’re thinking of investing in a second Switch console), Nintendo has teamed up with Epic Games to produce the Switch + Fortnite “Double Helix” Console Bundle. The package includes a Switch console with Neon Blue and Red Joy-Con controllers, as well as 1,000 V-Bucks, and the Double Helix Costume Set.

But if you’d rather trade Tilted Towers for the Parthenon, PS4 and Xbox One owners will be able to explore Ancient Greece in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey. According to Ubisoft, players will be able to “journey from outcast to legendary Spartan hero” in Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, which will also be available to download for the PC.

We can race back into the present with Forza Horizon 4, a new arcade-style racer for the Xbox One from Microsoft and Playground Games. A PC download through the Windows Store (which is compatible with Microsoft’s Xbox Play Anywhere service) will also be available.

And finally this week, 2K Games will release the WWE 2K19: Deluxe Edition for the PS4 and Xbox One. This feature-packed version of the game will be available on October 5, four days before the Standard Edition, and include two bonus playable wrestlers (Rey Mysterio and Ronda Rousey), the Season Pass, and all digital content from the Wooooo! Edition.

A complete list of this week’s new retail releases can be found after the break. (more…)

Mojang will release Minecraft: Dungeons for the PC in 2019

Telltale Games helped Mojang successfully spin Minecraft into a narrative adventure with the launch of Minecraft: Story Mode in 2015. Earlier today, Mojang returned with plans to slide the franchise’s familiar voxel designs into another genre with the announcement of Minecraft: Dungeons.

Said to be “inspired by classic dungeon crawlers,” Minecraft: Dungeons will give players (and up to three of their friends) the chance to search for treasure and battle monsters in a brand new action-adventure game:

Brave the dungeons alone, or team up with friends! Up to four players can battle together through action-packed, treasure-stuffed, wildly varied levels, all in an epic quest to save the villagers and take down the evil Arch-Illager!

Discover new weapons and items that will help you defeat a ruthless swarm of new-and-nasty mobs. Fight or flee through canyons, swamps and – of course – mines! Any adventurer brave or foolish enough (or a bit-of-both!) to explore this blocky and beautiful world will need to come prepared. So quickly, gear up!

While I’m sure dreams of Diablo and Gauntlet are swimming through your head, the first trailer for Minecraft: Dungeons is a little light on the details. And I’m sure we’ll have to wait a while before we learn more about the game.

But in the meantime, Mojang confirmed that Minecraft: Dungeons will be released for the PC in 2019.

Kosmic completes a nearly perfect Super Mario Bros. speedrun of 4 minutes and 55.96 seconds

The speedrunners competing to complete a “perfect” Super Mario Bros. run got a little closer earlier this week when “KosmicD12” set a new world record of four minutes and 55.96 seconds.

Thanks to pixel-perfect platforming and a series of glitches (including running through the wall to find the Warp Zone in World 1-2), this “Any Percentage” run is nearly identical to the “Tool Assisted Run” of four minutes and 55 seconds. In a “Tool Assisted Run,” a computer calculates the optimal path through the game using all known glitches, so to see an actual human person nearly match it is rather astounding.

“KosmicD12” was rather tongue-tied after his record-setting feat, but he did manage to croak out, “I don’t know what to say.” This run definitely speaks for itself, so I’m not sure anything else needs to be said.

Congratulations to “KosmicD12” from the entire Warp Zoned staff, and you can look here, here, here, here, and here to find previous record-setting Super Mario Bros. runs.
