Daily Scoop: January 6, 2014 – Happy New Year!
Hello everyone, and happy new year! It’s been an amazing holiday for me – I spent so much time playing games, it boggles my mind. Anthony and I got loads of games on sale and pretty much haven’t stopped playing games for the last two weeks. The last few days we’ve played more Hammerwatch than my poor hands can take! I can’t recommend that game enough to everyone. Seriously. It is ridiculously good.
But I’m sure you’re here for the deals! There are some going on at Amazon, like the Limited Edition of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag for $99.99 and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time for $12.99. You can also get an Ouya Console on sale for $89.99.
If you’re looking for some digital games, you might want to check out the Humble Bundle Store, where you can get Continue?9876543210 for $7.99, Retro City Rampage for $4.99, and Trine for $1.99.
There are also lots of good t-shirts for sale today! (more…)

Microsoft sold more than 3 million Xbox One consoles in 2013
“Anything you can do, I can do better.”
While I don’t think Microsoft’s Yusuf Mehdi is going to duet on that ditty with Sony’s Andrew House anytime soon, their back-and-forth over next-generation sales figures continues today. In a post on Xbox Wire, Mehdi, the Xbox Division’s Vice President of Marketing, has announced that Microsoft sold more than three million Xbox One consoles in 2013. The executive appears astounded by the system’s sales success:
“It’s been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honored to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November. Since our launch, demand for Xbox One has been strong, selling out throughout the holidays at most retailers worldwide. We are continuing to work hard to deliver additional consoles to retailers as fast as possible.”
For comparison’s sake, Sony announced that 2.1 million PS4 systems have been sold as of December 3.
Weekly Warp-Up: Welcome to 2014 Edition
No, that’s not a typo. Welcome to the Weekly Warp-Up, your weekly wrap-up of the biggest and the best articles posted at Warp Zoned this week…
I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year’s because now it’s full steam ahead into 2014! Woo! Yeah! Wait, nothing actually happened this week!
Well, one thing happened. We here at Warp Zoned handed out the 2013 Golden Pixel Awards, honoring our favorite games from last year. Besides our yearly top ten, we handed out The Participation Trophy, picked a piece of tech that is pushing the world one step closer to SkyNet, rocked out with our favorite game soundtrack, and highlighted more than a dozen other games.
The (very short) remainder of the Weekly Warp-Up can be found after the break. (more…)

New Releases: Wii Fit U, Metal Gear Rising on PC

The 2014 game calendar gets off to a bit of a slow start this week with two new releases.
First up is the PC download edition of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Platinum’s swords and science fiction epic starring Raiden originally debuted on the PS3 and Xbox 360 last year. The PC release is the most complete version of the game as it includes all of the previously released costumes and three additional DLC campaigns.
Also available this week is the retail edition of Wii Fit U. Available on the Wii U eShop for some time now, the retail version comes in two different packages, one with the Balance Board and one without. If you wanted to use your new Wii U for exercising, now’s your chance.

Golden Pixel Awards 2013: What We Loved, What We Hated, and What We’ll Never Forget
![]()
2013 was an amazing year in gaming. While we got loads of sequels, we also got some beautiful new IPs, and plenty of new hardware to enjoy it all.
Naughty Dog took a break from Uncharted and gave us The Last of Us, BattleBlock Theater reminded us why we love The Behemoth, and Ken Levine and his crew unleashed BioShock: Infinite on the gaming world. And let’s not forget all the amazing ports, including Diablo III (on consoles), Fez (on the PC), and Hotline Miami (on the PS3 and Vita). Yes, this year took our breath away, and cramped our thumbs like the good old days of the NES. We here at Warp Zoned have been gaming our little fingers off the last 12 months, and we’ve been even harder at work the last few weeks trying to decide what we loved and hated about gaming in 2013. After several days of deliberation, here’s what we came up with. And now it’s time for us to get back to gaming… 2014 is ready for us. (more…)

Looks like Deep Down will officially be titled Deep Down after all

When Capcom announced Deep Down, they were quick to stress that the game’s rather oddball title was just a placeholder and that they’d give it a more permanent name in the future. Instead, Capcom has decided that the working title is a perfectly cromulent name, so Deep Down it is!
The official title was revealed thanks to an application Capcom filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office on December 17. But we all probably should have seen this coming, the game’s most recent trailer didn’t include the “working title” designation.
Nintendo Download: Mega Man X2, Bravely Default demo

Welcome to this week’s edition of the Nintendo Download… which is strikingly similar to last week’s.
As you might remember, the Nintendo Network suffered several terrible outages in the wake of an apparently successful Christmas for Nintendo. So rather than flood the eShop with a ton of new games, Nintendo has decided to remind everyone that a bunch of great games were added to the online storefront last week including Dr. Luigi (Wii U), Super Punch-Out!! (Wii U), CastleStorm (Wii U), Mario Tennis (3DS), and several others. You can read all about last week’s eShop update here.
One new game did make its way onto the Wii U eShop, Mega Man X2. Capcom’s Super NES is joined by a 3DS demo of Bravely Default, Square Enix’s upcoming RPG.

WB teases Mr. Freeze story DLC for Batman: Arkham Origins

As promised, WB Games made a “big announcement” concerning Batman: Arkham Origins. As we were all ringing in the new year with parties and playtime, WB Games had a different kind of party in mind: Gotham City’s Humanitarian of the Year Awards.
The gala event will be held at Wayne Manor and will serve as the setting for a story-based downloadable expansion to Arkham Origins planned for release this year. A post on the Batman: Arkham Facebook page confirms that the party will have an ice theme, which likely means an appearance by Mr. Freeze. Further evidence can be found in Batman: The Animated Series, which set the first battle between Batman and Mr. Freeze at the Humanitarian of the Year Awards.
WB Games has promised that more details will be revealed soon.
