And don’t forget, today is the last day for current 3DS owners to log-in to the 3DS eShop and register for the 3DS Ambassador program.
Today is the last day to join 3DS Ambassadors; 3DS is $170 at Target, Walmart already
Just a reminder that today is the final day that 3DS owners can log-in to the 3DS eShop to qualify for the 3DS Ambassadors program.
If you still don’t own a 3DS but want in on the free games, you might also be interested to learn that Walmart and Target have already dropped the price of the Nintendo handheld. So say goodbye to the $250 3DS and say hello to a much nicer price of $170.
So if you’re itching to obtain those free NES/GBA downloads as part of the 3DS Ambassadors program (the 12 titles confirmed so far can be found after the break), today is definitely the day. (more…)
Final Fantasy Versus XIII will not be at Tokyo Game Show
Tetsuya Nomura, director of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, told Dengeki PlayStation that his game would not be appearing at Tokyo Game Show. While this is disappointing news, he did say that the game’s next showing has been determined – though he didn’t say when or where that would be. However, the article at Andriasang did point out that “the game has appeared in some capacity at the past two TGS events despite initial hints from Nomura that this wouldn’t be the case.”
I’ll remain hopeful – and I’ll also admit that I’m looking forward to Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, the rhythm title for the 3DS. Nomura said that it would be “the first entry in Square Enix’s 25th anniversary festivities for the FF series.” At least that’s something to look forward to!

3DS sees Flame Red next month
It’s a red letter day for Nintendo as the publisher has announced that the 3DS will be available in a new color next month. Dubbed “Flame Red,” the two-toned color scheme features a bright red bottom half with the top covered in a deep black.
“Nintendo 3DS is poised to be on fire for the holidays, with its new suggested retail price, great games and our new Flame Red color,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “With major upcoming releases in the Star Fox, Pokémon and Mario series, in addition to downloadable offerings from Nintendo eShop, Nintendo Video and Netflix, the system offers new and fun experiences to owners on a daily basis.”
The Flame Red 3DS will be available on September 9, alongside the release of Star Fox 64 3D, at the handheld’s new $169.99 price.
Four new games in the works at Nippon Ichi Software
In an interview with Dengeki PlayStation, Nippon Ichi Software revealed some tasty details for fans of their quirky style.
They confirmed Disgaea 3: Return for the PlayStation Vita, and also hinted that the following four games are in development, according to a report on Andriasang:
1. An action RPG from the Prinny team with full polygon visuals. We’ll get our first look in about a month. Platform is unspecified.
2. An all new title from the Disgaea team. This is said to have the visual quality of the illustrations from Disgaea 4. The staff is using the knowhow it gained from Disgaea 4 for networking and other areas. The game will have a famous illustrator for its character designs. Platform is unspecified.
3. A new title from System Plasma, makers of Classic Dungeon. Platform is unspecified.
4. Japanese release of a 3DS game that was popular overseas.
That’s enough to keep us drooling for now. They’ve also said they want to make a PlayStation Vita sequel to Criminal Girls (hopefully bringing both to North America as a result), but that it won’t be soon, as they wouldn’t do it without Kazuya Niinou.

Nintendo rolls out a new website for Zelda’s 25th anniversary
Somebody grab the Silver Arrows, because The Legend of Zelda series is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. After the announcement of that awesome symphony tour, Nintendo has launched The Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary website which includes videos of the orchestra at E3 and an interactive history of the franchise.
Nintendo has also merged The Legend of Zelda with their popular Flipnote Studio software for a new contest that’ll be judged by Shigeru Miyamoto himself:
Starting today through September 9, DSi or DSi XL owners are also invited to create their own flipnotes, or short animations, inspired by The Legend of Zelda series. DSi or DSi XL owners can use one of three flipnote templates with music from The Legend of Zelda series, then complete and upload their creations via the Flipnote Studio application. Flipnote Studio is available as a free download from the Nintendo DSiWare service, and also comes pre-installed on select DSi and DSi XL hardware. Fans can also submit a paper entry by mail. The best Zelda-themed flipnotes will be evaluated by key Nintendo developers who have worked on the series – including Shigeru Miyamoto, Takashi Tezuka, Eiji Aonuma and Yoshiaki Koizumi – and posted for fans to enjoy on the 25th anniversary website, the Nintendo Channel on the Wii console and Flipnote Hatena on DSi and DSi XL systems.
Finally, no anniversary celebration would be complete without games and a ton of new Zelda titles are in the pipeline for 2011 including the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, a free DSi/3DS download of The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords in September and the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the Wii by the end of the year.

Resident Evil Revelations site goes live
The site for Capcom’s latest Resident Evil game, Resident Evil Revelations, has gone live, and is full of details about the upcoming 3DS title. Taking place between Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5, the game has a new storyline and a new setting but works with familiar characters – Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield. Valentine and her new partner, Parker Luciani, are trying to find Redfield on what they think is an abandoned ship in the Mediterranean (spoiler alert: it’s probably not abandoned).
Resident Evil Revelations will also have some gameplay that is… underwater? RE meets Hydrophobia??? Interesting. The site also lists a plethora of other features:
- All new Resident Evil — New storyline featuring series favorite — Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield and introducing BSAA member Parker Luciani
- Classic survival horror gameplay returns — Explore the dark, sinister areas of the cruise ship; there’s nowhere to run and nowhere to hide with evil creeping out of the shadows
- Flexible touch screen functionality — Using the touch screen adds depth to puzzle solving and provides easy access to switching weapons on the fly
- Use your equipment — Use the Genesis scanning equipment to analyze enemy weaknesses and hidden items that will prove crucial for the player’s survival
- Brand new threat — A new kind of horror is set to join the legions of Resident Evil; for the first time ever in the series, players will encounter enemies underwater, adding a unique challenge to the mix of gameplay
- Alternate Aiming Perspectives — Players can choose the shooting style that suits them with the ability to alternate between first and third person views to best pinpoint enemies
Resident Evil Revelations will be out next Spring. Check out the site for more details.
