Satoru Iwata apologizes to 3DS early adopters for price drop
In a stunning move, Nintendo dropped the price for their brand new handheld, the 3DS, from $249.99 to $169.99. While Warp Zoned Editor-In-Chief John Scalzo expertly detailed the possible reasoning behind this (eat your heart out, Pach!), it still has many early adopters shocked and hurt. Nintendo has announced the Ambassador Program, which will give early adopters access to 20 free downloadable games. But Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s president, went even further, issuing a personal apology and taking a 50% slash in pay after reporting on Nintendo’s heavy losses.
Those awesome fellas over at Giant Bomb posted a translation of the letter Iwata wrote on the company’s website, which you can read after the jump. (more…)

Super Mario Advance 4, Kirby & the Amazing Mirror join 3DS Ambassador lineup
The Nintendo faithful have two more games to add to the list of Nintendo Ambassador freebies. It has been revealed that Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 and Kirby & the Amazing Mirror will be joining the list of GBA games included in this program, bringing the confirmed number of games to seven.
Early adopters who have purchased a 3DS, or plan to purchase one before the price drop on August 12, will receive 20 free downloadable games (10 NES games and 10 GBA games). This leaves three more GBA games and five more NES games to be confirmed before the NES titles become available for download on September 1. The GBA games will all be released before the end of 2011.
The current list of Virtual Console games confirmed to be part of the 3DS Ambassador program can be found after the break. (more…)

The Next Level: The Games of August 2011

Just 31 more days. That’s all that remains between the doldrums of August and the dam-breaking flood of new games coming this Fall. But that’s not to say that August doesn’t have a few important titles of its own. And the Warp Zoned staff is ready to dive into this month’s new releases and find those hidden gems (oh, and the juggernaut that is John Madden). (more…)
Why the 3DS Price Drop Isn’t As Desperate As It Looks

Nintendo shocked the world yesterday when they announced a new price tag for the 3DS. The announcement will drop the handheld’s MSRP to $169.99 on August 12, a cut of $80. Slashing 32% from the system’s retail price is great news for gamers, but it’s being seen as a desperation move by many.
Or is it? (more…)
Nintendo President slashes salary because of poor 3DS sales
Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has laid the blame for the 3DS’ sluggish sales start on a lot of things. First, he cited the Japanese earthquake as the reason. Then, he pinned the blame on a poor software lineup and health concerns over the glasses-free 3D. Now, he’s taking one for the team and admitted the 3DS’ sales failure is entirely his fault.
But he’s also putting his money where his mouth is. Iwata (and other Nintendo executives) isn’t just cutting the retail price of the 3DS, but his own salary as well.
“For cuts in fixed salaries, I’m taking a fifty percent cut, other representative directors are taking a 30 percent cut, and other execs are taking a 20 percent cut,” Iwata told investors during a financial briefing.
Iwata also admitted that the 3DS will be sold at a loss once the retail price drops to $169.99 on August 12, which is a rarity for a Nintendo product.

Nintendo Download: Let’s Golf 3D, Brawl Brothers
Nintendo has updated their online shops and made a variety of new games available to download on the 3DS, DS and Wii. This week’s additions include:
Let’s Golf 3D (3DS eShop)
Choose from eight customizable characters and play in exotic locations, including the Mayan jungle and a winter wonderland. The 3D visuals will let you view your ball’s trajectory like never before.
Brawl Brothers (WiiWare)
Rick and Doug know all the moves, from martial arts to pro wrestling throws, and they don’t hesitate to use them. You really don’t want to mess with them!
Burn the Rope (WiiWare)
Try to burn as much of the rope as possible in each level. But there’s a catch: The fire only burns upward, so you must rotate the levels to keep your flame alive.
- Go Series: Portable Shrine Wars (DSiWare)
- Oscar’s World Tour (DSiWare)
- My Australian Farm (DSiWare)
More information on all of these titles can be found at the weekly Nintendo Download newsletter.
Daily Scoop: July 28, 2011 – Nintendo, Nintendo, Nintendo
Ah, the weekend is almost upon us. And there’s a lot going on in the world of video games! Well, ok, mostly it’s just people getting brutally slaughtered in Catherine. Seriously, I took a beating last night. And the sad thing is, I can’t wait to get home and play some more! Even on Normal it’s gut-wrenching.
Amazon’s Deal of the Day in video games today is Namco’s Active Life: Explorer With Mat for the Wii. It’s on sale for $23.99, which isn’t really much of a sale, sad to say. But Amazon’s also got a fine list of bonus order stuff, including $30 credit on Wii console bundles (in white or black). Mix that with a 3DS price drop and it’s a Nintendo Christmas in July!
No video game t-shirts again today D:. But I can’t say I’m disappointed about the number of Monty Python and the Holy Grail shirts that have been available recently. “Black Knight Coat of (No) Arms” over at shirt.w00t is straight awesome: (more…)

Nintendo slashes 3DS price to $170, announces 3DS Ambassadors program

It’s no secret that the 3DS is not selling as well as Nintendo would like. That will all change on August 12 when the publisher plans to cut the price of their latest handheld to $169.99. That’s an astounding $80 price drop from its current price of $249.99.
The Big N has given tentative release dates (and final titles) to their biggest 3DS games of the Fall. Super Mario 3D Land will launch in November, Mario Kart 7 will follow in December and Kid Icarus: Uprising will land in stores “during the holiday season.”
So everyone thinking about buying a 3DS should wait two weeks, right? Not so fast. Nintendo has also announced the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program, a sort of “thank you” to everyone who bought a 3DS at the original price point. Nintendo plans to shower everyone who accesses the 3DS eShop before midnight on August 11 with 20 Virtual Console downloads… all for free.
And these games aren’t castoffs Nintendo couldn’t sell to Captain N, they’re bona fide classics in their own right. Want the full list, hit the jump. (more…)
