Nicalis picks up Kickstarter project The 90s Arcade Racer

Nicalis is well known for bringing VVVVVV, NightSky, and Cave Story to Nintendo platforms over the past three years. And they’re likely going to to continue their goodwill streak with their first Wii U project, The 90s Arcade Racer.

The 90s Arcade Racer started life as a Kickstarter project that was originally headed to the three PC platforms (Windows, Mac, and Linux). Nicalis stepped in and offered to back the developer, Antonis Pelekanos, with additional resources and the ability to publish the game on iOS and Android devices as well as the Wii U eShop.

As you can see from the trailer above, The 90s Arcade Racer takes its cues from the classics of the 90s arcade including Daytona USA, Sega Super GT, and Indy 500.

Blending the best bits of those three games together, The 90s Arcade Racer will include stock cars, supercars, and open-wheel racers in a game that features three tracks and “a nice blend between reality and fantasy. All while keeping with the 90s theme.”

The 90s Arcade Racer is expected to be available in November or December of this year.

Star Wars Pinball strikes back on digital platforms this month

Zen Studios will be bringing three Star Wars-themed pinball tables to a download service near you this month. Star Wars Pinball will be available as a standalone app on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Android Store. It’ll also be released as downloadable content for Pinball FX 2 (Xbox Live Arcade, Windows 8), Zen Pinball 2 (PlayStation Network, Vita, Mac App Store), and Zen Pinball (Apple App Store, Google Play).

“It’s been over 30 years since Star Wars, videogames, and solid state pinball all burst onto the entertainment scene, and their popularity endures today. We’re excited to be combining all three for the very first time,” said Neil Sorens, Zen Studios’ Creative Director. “Our designers are huge Star Wars fans, and you can expect every detail in every table to reflect their passion for the Star Wars universe.”

The three tables will be based on three of the biggest names in Star Wars history: The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Screenshots and more details can be found at the game’s official site, StarWarsPinball.com.

Temple Run 2 downloaded 20 million times in first four days

templerun2Temple Run 2, sequel to Imangi Studios’ original Temple Run, was downloaded by quick fingers over 20 million times in just four days on the App Store. In that time, there have been over 210 million game sessions, which adds up to over 1,775 years of gameplay.

Holy. Crap.

It only took eight hours for the game to get to the #1 Free App, and right now, it’s the #3 Top Grossing App. How long will it take it to overcome the original, which has been downloaded over 170 million times across the App Store, Amazon Marketplace, and Google Play?

Temple Run 2 is currently available for free from the App Store on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. It’s due to come out on Android devices later this week.
