VGX 2013 Trailer: South Park: The Stick of Truth
This might be the third or fourth “World Premiere” trailer for South Park: The Stick of Truth at the Spike TV Video Game Awards/VGX Awards. But if you’ve ever wanted Cartman to give you a 90-second tutorial on how to fart, this trailer’s for you.
South Park: The Stick of Truth is in development at Obsidian Entertainment and will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 4, 2014.
GTA5 is “Game of the Year” at the 2013 VGX Awards

The first ever VGX Awards (formerly known as the Spike TV Video Game Awards) were held last night and the best games of 2013 were once again crowned by GameTrailers.com’s Geoff Keighley (with an assist from Community‘s Joel McHale). The general consensus among the Internetatti is that the show still doesn’t know what it wants to be and that the “intimate studio setting” (and McHale) made the whole thing feel a bit bizarre. But what about the award winners?
In what is sure to be the first of many, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V was named “Game of the Year” by the VGX Advisory Council. Rockstar’s crime saga also took home “Best Soundtrack.” But, the developer missed out on “Studio of the Year” honors. That award went to Naughty Dog for their work on The Last of Us. Their apocalyptic story was also awarded “Best PlayStation Game.” “Best Voice Actor” (Troy Baker), and “Best Voice Actress” (Ashley Johnson). Other multiple award winners include indie sensation Gone Home (“Best PC Game” and “Best Independent Game”) and BioShock Infinite (“Best Shooter” and “Best Song in a Game”).
A complete list of this year’s winners, including the remaining genre awards, “Best Xbox Game” (the surprising Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons), and “Best Nintendo Game” (Super Mario 3D World), can be found after the break. (more…)

VGX 2013 will include new trailers for TitanFall, Quantum Break, The Division, more

Spike TV’s revamped VGX Awards are set to begin in just a few hours (6:00 PM Eastern Time to be exact) and this year’s show is sure to pack plenty of surprises. In addition to our first look at Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on the PS4 and Xbox One and a new trailer for Bungie’s Destiny, the 2013 VGX Awards will include…
- A gameplay trailer for CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
- The first gameplay trailer of Remedy’s Xbox One-exclusive Quantum Break.
- New footage from everyone’s favorite mech game, TitanFall.
- A new gameplay trailer for Tom Clancy’s The Division.
- Yet another trailer for South Park: The Stick of Truth. But this time, it will include a few words from Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
- A big announcement about Double Fine’s Broken Age. And it’s something bigger than the fact that Wil Wheaton has joined the voice cast.
A “Live Schedule” of tonight’s festivities can be found at the VGX Awards site. Be sure to cycle through it for more VGX events including an appearance by Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime, a Grand Theft Auto V-themed concert, and a lot more.

Ultra Street Fighter IV Release Dates: Upgrade Download in June, Retail Disc in August

Capcom has continued to narrow the release window for Ultra Street Fighter IV. To ensure everyone has enough time to practice ahead of Evo 2014, the publisher plans to release the PS3 and Xbox 360 upgrade download in early June. The update has been priced at $14.99 (€14.99) and can be applied to Super Street Fighter IV or Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition.
If you’d prefer a boxed copy of the game, the retail disc version of Ultra Street Fighter IV for the PS3 and Xbox 360 will be released in August. The retail edition will be priced at $39.99 (€39.99).
Finally, PC players that want to join the fight will also have to wait until August as both the upgrade download ($14.99/€14.99) and full-game download ($29.99/€29.99) will be released at the same time.
Ultra Street Fighter IV will also be available in limited quantities as an arcade cabinet and Capcom has more details about arcade edition location tests at the Capcom-Unity blog.

Indie horror adventure Stasis reaches full funding on Kickstarter
With only five days left in its epic 33-day Kickstarter campaign, 2D/isometric/horror/adventure game Stasis has achieved full funding, edging just over its $100,000 goal. The game, developed by South African brothers Christopher and Nicolas Bischoff, takes inspiration from classic point-and-click games such as The Dig, as well as space horror films like Ridley Scott’s Alien.
Last month, we talked to Chris Bischoff about the game, its development, and the funding process. Now that it has reached its target, PC gamers can look forward to exploring the derelict space station known as Groomlake when the game is released sometime in Fall 2014. Meanwhile, supporters can look forward to the wide array of rewards, including an official soundtrack composed by Mark Morgan, of Fallout fame.
To celebrate this achievement, the Bischoff brothers have released a new teaser trailer that feautres the point-of-view of the game’s fictional Cayne Corporation.

Interview: Stasis Developer Christopher Bischoff Talks Sci-Fi, Scares, and South Africa

In the November edition of our Kickstart This! column, we briefly looked at the dark sci-fi world of Stasis, an isometric adventure game from Johannesburg-based game developer Christopher Bischoff. I recently chatted with the designer to delve further into the belly of the deserted spacecraft named Groomlake, along with old LucasArts titles, South African gaming, and an unheard-of cinematic gem from William Shatner.
