Platinum will release their Legend of Korra game in October
In an interview with IGN, Activision’s Robert Conkey has confirmed that the Platinum-developed game based on Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra will be available to download in October.
The Legend of Korra will be available for the PC (via Steam) and the PlayStation Network (for the PS3 and PS4) on October 21. Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners will have to wait an extra day as it will be released through the Xbox Live Marketplace on October 22.
The announcement was part of a series of Korra-related interviews published by IGN yesterday. So if you love the show, you might want to check them out. As a bonus, you’ll find out that David Faustino (the former Bud Bundy and the current voice of Mako) has been slowly morphing into an American-accented Jean Claude Van Damme over the past few years.
Destiny’s launch trailer takes flight
Destiny won’t be available for another two weeks, but Acitivision and Bungie have decided to release the game’s “Launch Trailer” a might early to further stoke the hype train. If you’ve been watching the “Every. Simpsons. Ever.” marathon on FXX, then you’ve seen a good portion of this footage already. But there’s also some new visuals that are absolutely gorgeous.
Destiny will be available for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 9.
Sega announces Yakuza Zero… only for Japan

Sega announced the latest game in the Yakuza series, Yakuza Zero, over the weekend for the PS3 and PS4. For now, that’s all we know, though Sega did promise to reveal more about the game during next month’s Tokyo Game Show.
Sega has released ten games in the Yakuza series, but only five have made their way to America (2012’s Yakuza: Dead Souls was the most recent). A pair of spinoffs that focus on the ancestors of main character Kazuma Kiryu, a pair of PSP adventures that focus on side characters, and Yakuza 5, the fifth game in the “main series” remain exclusive to Japan (where the series is known as “Like A Dragon” because of Kiryu’s elaborate tattoo). Because of this release history, it’s unknown if Sega has any plans to localize Yakuza Zero.
Hopefully the answer is yes, and hopefully we’ll find out next month.

New Releases: Madden NFL 15, Metro Redux, Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, More

The month of August is coming to a close and its taking the Summer gaming drought with it.
As they do every year, EA Sports wants to ask: “Are you ready for some football?” If you are, then you’re probably already aware that Madden NFL 15 will be available this week. Just like last year, the game will be released for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. And if you haven’t made your next-generation console choice yet, there’s going to be a Madden NFL 15 Xbox One Bundle available as well.
A different kind of battle will take place on the 3DS this week with the release of Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney. These two titans of the handheld puzzle game genre will go head-to-head to prove once and for all that… actually, nevermind. Neither character challenges the other and, in fact, they team up in Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney to solve a crime. So I’m not sure where the “vs” in the title comes from.
Finally this week, a trio of games will receive spiffy re-releases on a new platform. NIS America resurrects the first game in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series on the Vita as Hyperdimension Neptunia ReBirth 1. And Deep Silver is bringing back Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light in a next-generation package known as Metro Redux on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.

Square Enix @ PAX 2014: Lara Croft, Kingdom Hearts 2.5, Dragon Quest mobile games, more

Square Enix has got quite an impressive array of titles in development including Final Fantasy XV, Kingdom Hearts III, and Rise of the Tomb Raider. However, all of those games are currently on track for a release in 2015, so they won’t be appearing at next weekend’s PAX Prime convention.
Instead, the publisher will put out playable demos of overhead puzzle platformer Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris, Kingdom Hearts compilation Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMix, and free-to-play team fighter Nosgoth. Square Enix will also show off some of their handheld offerings including the upcoming Hitman: Sniper, musical sequel Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call, and a pair of currently available Dragon Quest games for mobile devices (Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen and Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King).
The 2014 PAX Prime convention will be held from August 29 to September 1. I hope you’ve already got your tickets, because it is sold out. More information on everything Square Enix plans to bring to the expo can be found after the break. (more…)

Ubisoft bringing a pair of Assassin’s Creed games, Far Cry 4, more to PAX Prime 2014

You could set your watch by the games within Ubisoft’s booth at this year’s PAX Prime convention. Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, a few downloadables. We know the drill. But if you’re interested in Ubisoft’s Fall lineup, and you’re going to be at PAX Prime, you should definitely check them out.
New videos for Assassin’s Creed: Unity and Assassin’s Creed: Rogue will be on hand. But if you’re looking for something to play, there’s the open-world racing game The Crew, the whimsical strategy of Toy Soldiers: War Chest, and the crazed insanity of Far Cry 4.
And if you’re a Tetris fan, Ubisoft is hold two events on Sunday, August 31 to prepare players for the launch of Tetris Ultimate. “Tetris: The Video Game That Changed the World” will be held at 3:00 PM (Pacific Time) in the Hedgehog Theatre at the Grand Hyatt. Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov will take the stage to talk about the history of Tetris and what’s in store for the first next-generation game in the franchise. And at 5:00 PM, Pajitnov will move over to the Paramount Theatre (911 Pine Street) to meet fans and sign autographs.
More details on all of the games found in Ubisoft’s booth can be found after the break. (more…)
