PS Store Today: Minecraft PS3, Walking Dead: Season 2 Episode 1, Flow PS4/Vita, a lot more
It’s a big day for the PlayStation Store as several well-received games have found homes on new platforms and one of this Winter’s biggest releases is now available.
For all you PS3 owners who are jealous of your Xbox 360 brethren and their embrace of Minecraft-mania, the wait is finally over, Mojang and 4J Studios have gotten together and added Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition to the PlayStation Store. Also available today is Telltale’s continuation of their heartwrenching Walking Dead adaptation. Like the first season, The Walking Dead: Season 2 will be released in five parts. The first episode, “All That Remains,” can be downloaded now.
What else is available today? Well…
- Flow, thatgamecompany’s first game, is now available on the Vita and PS4.
- Speaking of the PS4, The Pinball Arcade has also flippered its way onto Sony’s next-generation console.
- Terraria, everyone’s other favorite sandbox game, has been released for the Vita.
- Bit.Trip Presents Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien has also zoomed onto Sony’s handheld today.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Sony has added more than a dozen games to their online store today and you can read all about them after the break. As usual, a detailed listing of this week’s new game add-ons (including Borderlands 2: How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Freedom Cry) can be found at the PlayStation Blog. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster PS3 Collector’s Edition, Vita bundle announced
The last time Square Enix discussed the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster, it was to delay the compilation’s release and to cryptically shove the Vita version to the side. Well good news, the Vita version is alive and well! And it’s no longer two separate games. And it will be released side-by-side with the PS3 version on March 18.
Previously, the publisher planned to release Final Fantasy X HD and Final Fantasy X-2 HD as two separate cartridges on the Vita. Now, like the PS3 version, the two PS2 classics will be bundled together in a single package. However, only Final Fantasy X HD will be included in the box. To obtain Final Fantasy X-2 HD, you’ll need to download it from the PlayStation Store with the enclosed voucher.
Finally, the PS3 version of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster will also be release in a special Collector’s Edition, available exclusively through the Square Enix Online Store. Priced at $79.99, the Collector’s Edition will include:
- Full-Size Artbook Packaging, featuring 40 pages of imagery from the beautiful world of Spira.
- Visual Soundtrack – Over six hours of music set to the game’s most memorable moments on a Blu-ray disc.
- Five Lithographs of iconic artwork and characters.

Borderlands 2: How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day DLC coming tomorrow
It’s great to see that some games are still getting new content over a year after their release. Borderlands 2 was released in September of last year, and has since seen almost a dozen DLC options including full-size expansions like “Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt” and “Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep” and smaller downloads such as the “Krieg the Beserker” character and this Fall’s bite-sized “Headhunter Packs.”
Speaking of Headhunter Packs, the latest one, “How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day,” was recently revealed by Gearbox.
The downloadable content is the third installment in Gearbox’s Headhunter series, which also includes the Halloween-inspired “T.K. Baha’s Bloody Harvest” and the Thanksgiving-themed “Horrible Hunger of the Ravenous Wattle Gobbler.” The newest Headhunter Pack will take place in a snowy town called Gingerton where players will explore Frost Bottom in an all-new mission, complete with unlockable heads and skins.
Best of all, “How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day” will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC (and Mac) tomorrow, December 17th.

Stan Bush’s “The Touch” gets remixed for Transformers: Fall of Cybertron
Last year, Stan Bush released a redone version of his iconic Transformer theme, “The Touch,” alongside High Moon’s Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Over the weekend, Bush released a brand new music video for the song featuring some of the biggest moments from the game. The “Power Mix” actually isn’t too bad and Stan wants you to know it’s also available on iTunes.
Of course, if you’d prefer to revel in the 80s awesomeness of the original version from Transformers: The Movie, you can find that music video after the break. (more…)
Minecraft: PS3 Edition will be released tomorrow; PS4, Vita versions coming in 2014

Good news, everyone! Mojang and Sony have announced that Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition will be available from the PlayStation Store beginning tomorrow, December 17. If you’re holding out for Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition or Minecraft: PS Vita Edition, I’ve got some bad news… they won’t be releaesd until sometime in 2014.
According to Owen Hill of Mojang (via the PlayStation Blog), it’s currently unknown if the PS3 Edition of Minecraft will include a Remote Play option or PS4/Vita cross-platform compatibility. Mojang also isn’t sure if they’ll be able to offer Minecraft as a Cross-Buy download.
What they do know is that Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will be virtually identical. And now that the game is available on both platforms, future updates will be developed in tandem. Skin Packs and Texture Packs will also be released for the PS3 Edition sometime in the future.
Lego The Hobbit’s first trailer is here and back again
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug cruised to the top of the box office heap this weekend with a total ticket take of $73 million. So now seems like a perfect time for Warner Bros. Games to unveil the first trailer for Lego The Hobbit, which is due to be released in 2014.
After watching this trailer, I think it’s official, Martin Freeman and Ian McKellan need to be in everything. Lego The Hobbit will be released for (deep breath) the PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and 3DS.
CoD: Ghosts, Battlefield 4 march to the top of November 2013’s best-selling games chart

With the PS4 and Xbox One now available in stores across the country, the NPD Group is ready to talk about the financial health of the video game industry with their most recent monthly report. Total sales of $2.7 billion fueled the game industry in November, an increase of seven percent over November 2012’s sales numbers. The next-generation had a lot to do with the inflated number, as hardware sales were listed at $1.3 billion for the month, a 58% increase year-over-year.
But what about the games? Well, new releases Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag marched to the top three spots. Below that is a trio of non-November releases (Madden NFL 25, Grand Theft Auto V, NBA 2K14) and below that is a trio of family-friendly titles (Skylanders Swap Force, Just Dance 2014, Disney Infinity). FIFA 14 rounded out the top ten.
The top ten brought with it an interesting comparison between the two next-generation consoles and there seemed to be no clear-cut winner. According to Joystiq, the PS4 versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Assassin’s Creed IV, Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K14, and FIFA 14 outsold their Xbox One counterparts. But the Xbox One can claim sales superiority with Skylanders Swap Force and Just Dance 2014 among multiplatform releases.
Finally, it was a bad month to be a platform-exclusive game as major releases like Super Mario 3D World, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Forza Motorsport 5, and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds failed to crack the top ten.
You can find the complete chart of November 2013’s best-sellng games after the break. (more…)

Telltale has released the first full trailer for The Walking Dead: Season 2
No more teasers… Telltale Games is finally ready to unveil The Walking Dead: Season 2 in the first full trailer for the game, which you can view above. In this second set of episodic adventure games, players will control Clementine in a world full of zombies, but without Lee, her protector from the first game.
Telltale isn’t ready to announce a final release for “All That Remains,” the first episode of The Walking Dead: Season 2, but it’s probably to expect the Steam (PC/Mac), PS3, and Xbox 360 editions to launch on December 17/18. Telltale has confirmed that an iOS version will also be released in December and that a Vita version is in the works.
Each episode will be priced at $4.99, but players can pre-purchase the entire season through Steam (PC/Mac) for $22.49, a 10% savings.
