Sega @ PAX Prime 2013: Sonic Lost World, Total War Rome II, more

PAX Prime 2013 opens in a few hours and Sega has revealed the four games they’ve brought to the Washington State Convention Center. If you’re going to be wandering the show floor today, you’ll get a chance to play Sega’s entire Fall lineup including Sonic: Lost World, which will be released this October exclusively for the 3DS/Wii U; Total War: Rome II, which will be available next week; Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, which will also be available next week; Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F, which was added to store shelves and the PSN this week; and Heroki, a mobile game that will be released later this year. You’ll be able to find all of these games at Sega’s booth: #142/#242.
If you’re interested in the inner workings of Total War: Rome II, the development team at Creative Assembly is hosting a panel on Sunday, September 1 titled “History vs. Gameplay – Hey Creative Assembly, Where’s the Accuracy in My Pew Pew Shooter?” Sounds like a good time.
More details on all of Sega’s PAX Prime lineup is available after the break. (more…)

Majesco launches Midnight City, an indie game publishing label
Majesco has always existed on the fringes of the video game industry. Normally a publisher of budget games, the company has dabbled in AAA development in the past (BloodRayne, for example), but mostly sticks with Zumba-branded exercise games these days. But while out there on the fringe, the Majesco brass has discovered that the kids love them indie games. So they started their own indie publishing label, Midnight City.
Midnight City will make its debut at this weekend’s PAX Prime, where the publisher will present ten very unique games to the public including a “lost” Game Boy game, a space age riff on Marble Madness, a “12-bit adventure,” a new game featuring Slenderman, and more. The label’s initial slate of games will be released for digital download services such as Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, and PC downloadable sites.
You can read all about Midnight City’s lineup after the break and, if you’re attending PAX Prime, you can check them out this weekend in their booth. (more…)
D3 @ PAX Prime 2013: Earth Defense Force 2025, Adventure Time 2, Regular Show
D3 Publisher has announced they’re bringing three games to this year’s PAX Prime. Here’s what you can expect to find in playable form from the budget publisher in Booth #6616:
Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW! – In a completely new storyline and adventure featuring the voices of the show’s most popular characters. Fans will have to save the Candy Kingdom by exploring the mysteries surrounding a massive Secret Royal Dungeon deep below the Land of Ooo.
Regular Show: Mordecai and Rigby In 8-Bit Land – Regular Show makes its first foray into the video game world when Mordecai and Rigby get transported into some of their favorite video games. The duo will have to use their best skills and unique abilities to traverse the various challenges to escape and return home in this “eggscellent” journey.
Earth Defense Force 2025 – This action shooting bonanza from D3Publisher arms players with more weapons than ever before! Players will have the experience of their lives as they form elite soldier classes to send on a global quest to protect the world from alien invasion.
EDF! EDF! EDF! PAX Prime begins tomorrow, August 30 and runs through Monday, September 2.
Rockstar releases “The Official Trailer” for Grand Theft Auto V
Rockstar Games has released a handful of trailers for Grand Theft Auto V over the last ten months. So I’m not sure what makes today’s new trailer any more “official” than the rest. But if you’re interested in the game, which will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 17, you’ll want to give “The Official Trailer” a watch.
There’s not much that’s you’d call new, but it’s sixty seconds of Grand Theft Auto V that we didn’t have yesterday.

PSN Today: Madden NFL 25, Final Fantasy XIV, Lost Planet 3, more

A quintet of new PS3 releases have made their way to the PlayStation Store on the same day as their retail release.
The games include Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Square Enix’s second shot at an MMORPG; Lost Planet 3, the latest entry in Capcom’s alien ice planet action series; Hatsune Miku Project Diva F, a rhythm game from Sega; Killer Is Dead, the latest game from Suda 51; and Madden NFL 25, EA Sports’ annual prfessional football simulation.
Also available this week is Spelunky, a quirky platformer that comes to the PSN and PS Vita as a Cross-Buy title, and Sweet Fuse: At Your Side, a PSP game where you play as Keiji Inafune’s niece. Sure, why not?
More information on all of these titles (and several others) can be found after the break. And, as always, a complete list of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

DuckTales Remastered Review: Blessed Bagpipes or Cursed Kilts?

The original DuckTales game for the NES was one of my favorite games. I remember receiving the game as a Christmas gift when I was ten years old, and getting to the last level that very same day, only to have my older brother turn off the system during the final boss fight, because, as he put it, I “shouldn’t finish a game the same day I got it.” So I beat it the next day. And the day after that. For months, DuckTales was the only game that inhabited my NES. The gameplay, the controls, the music – it was in every way a perfect game. Fast-forward twenty-five years, and I am sitting at my desk at work when I see the announcement of DuckTales Remastered. Pulling up that announcement trailer, I was in a state of shock. One of my favorite childhood games, being remade by one of my favorite developers, WayForward – this was just too good to be true. After playing the new title, I can say that while it’s a great game, DuckTales Remastered is not all it’s quacked up to be. (more…)
Sony is bringing playable demos of EVERYTHING to PAX Prime 2013

With 25 playable games, Nintendo has a pretty impressive PAX Prime 2013 lineup. It’s perhaps the most impressive group of titles available on display this year and… wait… Sony is going to have how many games at this year’s PAX Prime? I see. That certainly is a lot. But is it more than Nintendo? Oh, well alright then…
Ladies and gentlemen, Sony will have nearly 40 playable games to this weekend’s PAX Prime expo! There’ll be ten PS4 games (including InFamous: Second Son, DriveClub, and Killzone: Shadow Fall), nine PS3 games (including Beyond: Two Souls, Gran Turismo 6, and Rain), and 20 Vita games (including Killzone: Mercenary, Tearaway, and Luftrausers). Basically, the publisher is bringing nearly every announced, but unreleased, game they have to Seattle. That’s impressive.
You can find the full list of playable titles after the break and you can Sony’s massive PAX Prime presence at Booths 112, 122, 212, and 222. (more…)

New Releases: Madden NFL 25, Final Fantasy XIV, Lost Planet 3, More

Are you ready for some football? EA Sports’ annual gridiron game, Madden NFL 25, is in stores for the PS3 and Xbox 360 this week. A next generation version for the PS4 and Xbox One will be available in November.
“Made in Japan” is the theme for the rest of this week’s releases as Square Enix will bring their rebuilt MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn to the PC and, for the first time, the PS3. The psychotically-minded Suda 51 also has a new game this week as XSEED Games will publish his Killer Is Dead for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Finally, Capcom is bringing back the Lost Planet series in Lost Planet 3 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
More new releases can be found after the break. (more…)
