Watch Dogs hacks its way into our hearts as the best-selling game of May 2014

We were already pretty aware of the fact that a lot of copies of Watch Dogs and Mario Kart 8 were sold in the last week of May. Now, the NPD Group has made it official by releasing their official report of the best-selling games of May 2014.
Not surprisingly, Watch Dogs took the gold while Mario Kart 8 had to settle for the silver. The top ten was populated by several other May releases including Wolfenstein: The New Order (#4) and Kirby: Triple Deluxe (#9). A retail release of Minecraft on the PS3 also pushed that game back into the top five (#5, to be exact).
According to Joystiq, the NPD Group also confirmed that the PS4 has outsold the Xbox One for the fifth straight month. You can view the complete top ten list from the month of May after the break. (more…)

Sony’s surprise E3 announcement, Entwined, is now available to download from the PlayStation Store. The gorgeous tube flyer (seriously, check out that trailer above) will be joined by a variety of PS3 and Vita titles including Enemy Front (a WWII shooter for the PS3), Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 2 (the PS2 Classic RPG, now available on the PS3), and Soul Sacrifice Delta (the ultimate edition of Keiji Inafune’s Vita monster hunter).
More details on all of these games can be found after the break. And a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

Don’t have a PS3 or Vita but still want to get in on some PlayStation video game goodness? Well, now it’ll be a lot cheaper than you thought.

Soon after that, PS3 and Vita owners will also be able to try out the game streaming serivce. PlayStation Now will also be available select Sony televisions – so you won’t even need a PS4, PS3, or Vita! All you need to do is pick up a DualShock 3 and you’re good to go.

Sony @ E3 14: PlayStation TV announced for North America

Sony announced an American release for their set-top Vita console (as PlayStation TV) during their E3 Press Conference today. Sony @ E3 14: Grim Fandango remastered announced, PS4/Vita exclusive

Another surprise announcement during the Sony E3 Press Conference was a remastering of Tim Schaefer’s classic Grim Fandango!
Not much was shown on the title other than some art, but that’s all it needed to drive the audience to mad applause. Grim Fandango will be available exclusively for the PS4 and Vita.

Rejoice! EarthNight is coming to PS4, Vita
Great news, everyone! Cleaversoft’s amazing runner, EarthNight, is coming to PlayStation 4 and Vita. The company made the announcement yesterday, and the composer, Chipocrite, followed up by releasing this incredible EP in honor of the reveal. I’ll take a moment to say that Cleaversoft and Chipocrite are both from Philadelphia. Philly represent!
The video above is the E3 demo gameplay trailer, and the game will be playable at Sony’s booth next week. EarthNight will be released “when it’s done,” and trust me, people: it’s worth the wait. The game will launch on PS4 first, then on iOS, Android, Vita, Mac, and PC.

Murdered: Soul Suspect, PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, 1001 Spikes, more added to PS Store

The release calendar for June is a bit bare, but thankfully, Sony came through with a batch of quirky new downloads in the first PlayStation Store update of the month.
The supernatural detective story Murdered: Soul Suspect is this week’s biggest new release. Available for both the PS3 and PS4, the game follows the recently departed Ronan O’Connor as he attempts to track down his murderer, a serial killer known as The Bell Killer. It’s joined by four other PS4 releases including the free-to-play World War II sim, War Thunder; the latest game in the Worms franchise, Worms Battlegrounds; an enhanced version of the fourth PixelJunk game, PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate; and the latest brutal platformer, 1001 Spikes. Those last two are also available as PS4/Vita Cross-Buy games, so you can also take them on the go.
One other PS3 game was added to the PS Store this week and it’s Don Bradman Cricket 14. I’m not entirely sure, but it might be the first cricket game ever released in North America. If I cared in the slightest about cricket, I’d do some research and find out for sure.
Finally, the Vita is now home to a Sony-produced pet simulator, PlayStation Vita Pets, and a diva simulator known as Hyperdimension Neptunia: Producing Perfection. Don’t let your real dog and American Idol know you’ve been cheating on them.
More information about all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

1001 Spikes will be released for 3DS, PC, PS4, Vita, and Wii U next week
1001 Spikes, another one of those insanely unforgivable platforming games, will be released on June 3 for 3DS, PC, PS4, Vita, and Wii U. Fans of similarly difficult Spelunky will be excited to be able to die in new and different ways!
That’s not all. Nicalis has announced that the PSN version will feature Cross-Buy, so that players will pay $14.99 to get both versions of the game. If you already own Nicalis’ Cave Story or NightSky on Steam or the 3DS, the company is offering a $5 loyalty discount as well.
1001 Spikes will have both single-player and multiplayer modes, and the multiplayer modes will include both co-op and versus. It’s also got unlockable guest characters, an awesome chiptune soundtrack, multiple possible endings, and plenty of levels to curse through.
1001 Spikes will be released for 3DS, PC, PS4, Vita, and Wii U on June 3. Hit the jump for the full press release. (more…)
