Comcept closes out “Mighty May” with Mighty No. 9 gameplay trailer

Comcept has released a handful of trailers showcasing their progress on Mighty No. 9 since the completion of the Kickstarter campaign last Fall. But today’s new gameplay trailer, released to celebrate the end of “Mighty May,” is the most impressive yet. You might even say it is mega cool, man.

The trailer focuses on the icy locale that Mighty No. 2 calls home and the more industrial digs of Mighty No. 5. And unlike the previous “work-in-progress” trailers, this one features some beautiful backgrounds and gorgeous graphical effects, as well as a ton of enemies and environmental objects. Basically, it’s starting to look like a finished game.

According to Comcept, development on Mighty No. 9 will be completed over the course of the next 12 months and we should all be able to get our hands on it in Spring 2015. And I do mean all as Mighty No. 9 is in development for the 3DS, PC (Windows, Mac, Linux), PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Watch Dogs, The Sly Collection Vita, Wolf Among Us Episode 4, more added to PS Store

watchdogs-header

This is not your typically massive update to the PlayStation Store. But this week’s new batch of games does include one of the most highly anticipated games of 2014: Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs. Players will be able to take control of hacker Aiden Pearce on the PS3 or PS4 as he hacks his way across Chicago performing hacks against the dangerous group of hackers that hacked up his family. Oh, and Pearce can also put his hack license to good use by hijacking a cab and driving it around. He does a lot of hacking is what I’m saying.

Also available this week is the latest episode of Telltale’s Fables adaptation, The Wolf Among Us: In Sheep’s Clothing. Bigby is huffing and puffing in search of a killer but he doesn’t even realize that he’s joined on the PlayStation Store this week by one of the greatest thieves of all time as Sly Cooper comes to the Vita in The Sly Collection. Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves have all been remastered, remade, and compiled for Sony’s handheld at a nice price ($29.99).

Speaking of the Vita… three other games are also available for Sony’s handheld this week. There’s the dungeon-crawling RPG Mind Zero from Aksys Games, the grid-based RPG Monster Monpiece from Idea Factory, and the lovable hijinks of Lemmings Touch.

More information about all of these games can be found after the break. And a full rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

Samurai Warriors 4 and Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate will be released in NA, Europe this Fall

tecmokoei-logoTecmo Koei has made some pretty big announcements through Twitter these last few days in honor of the MCM Comic Con in London.

First up, the publisher confirmed that Samurai Warriors 4 will be available this Fall for Sony systems (PS3, PS4, and Vita) in North America and Europe. Not long after that, Tecmo Koei tweeted that Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate was also playable at the MCM Comic Con, and that it too would be coming to North America and Europe this Fall for the PS3, PS4, Vita, and Xbox One.

That’s a lot of Tecmo Koei coming in just a few months!

Lego Batman 3 blasts off into outer space this Fall

First, Lego Batman skulked about the streets of Gotham, protecting the city from his cunning and cagey Rogues Gallery. In Lego Batman 2, the Dark Knight teamed up with the Justice League to put a stop to a global threat from Lex Luthor. Now, in Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, the superheroes will have to team up with the supervillains to stop an intergalactic goon:

In Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, the Caped Crusader joins forces with the super heroes of the DC Comics Universe and blasts off to outer space to stop the evil Brainiac from destroying Earth. Using the power of the Lantern Rings, Brainiac shrinks worlds to add to his twisted collection of miniature cities from across the universe. Now the greatest super heroes and the most cunning villains must unite and journey to different Lantern Worlds to collect the Lantern Rings and stop Brainiac before it’s too late.

Once again developed by TT Games, Lego Batman 3 will include more than 150 playable characters when it’s released for the 3DS, PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this Fall.

Kickstart This! New Home Office Edition

Hello gamers and philanthropists, and welcome to Kickstart This! New Home Office Edition, which (as the title suggests) comes direct from my brand spanking new home office. I’m surrounded by unpacked boxes of books, games, and most importantly, Legos, but like the Death Star, it is armed and fully operational. With that in mind, let us turn our aim to the spectacle that is Kickstarter, and the handful of recent video game projects that have risen above the fold in vying for your affections, attentions, and well-earned remuneration.

First up is point-and-click adventure thriller The Mystery of Oak Island, followed by side-scrolling beat ’em up Rudo Resurrection. As if that was not enough, there is also FPS action horror A New Reckoning, and monster mayhem in Kaiju-A-Gogo.

Let’s rock and load! (more…)

New Releases: Watch Dogs, Mario Kart 8, Mind Zero, The Sly Collection

newreleases052714

After all the delays and all the hype, Ubisoft is finally ready to release Watch Dogs this week. Can the first adventure of Aiden Pearce live up to gamer’s expectations? We’ll all find out together on the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One this week. If you’re thinking about picking it up, don’t forget, the game will launch with exclusive content on the PlayStation platforms.

Watch Dogs won’t be available for the Wii U until the Fall, but Wii U owners will still get a major new game to play this week as Nintendo will release Mario Kart 8 for their newest console on May 30. With 32 tracks and 30 characters, it’s one of the largest Mario Kart games ever.

Finally this week, two new games will be released for Sony’s PlayStation Vita. Mind Zero is a dungeon crawler from Aksys Games and The Sly Collection will compile Sly Cooper and The Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves into one package.

Minecraft coming to PS4, Vita, Xbox One in August; upgrade from current-gen for only $5

minecraft-header

Microsoft has announced that the Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will be available in August with a special offer for Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition owners. If you currently own either version of the Xbox 360 Edition (the downloadable XBLA version or the retail disc), you’ll be able to upgrade to the Xbox One Edition for the low, low price of $4.99. If you don’t already own the Xbox 360 Edition, it’ll cost $19.99 to purchase the Minecraft: Xbox One Edition.

According to a post on Xbox Wire, players who upgrade will be able to transfer their worlds into the Xbox One Edition as well as “most (but not all) of [their] downloadable skins and texture packs.”

Sony has yet to announce a release date for Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition, but I have a creeping suspicion that it’ll launch sometime this Summer too.

UPDATE: That was fast. Mojang has confirmed that Minecraft will also be available for the PS4 and Vita in August. PS4 owners will be able to take advantage of the same $4.99 upgrade while the PS3 and Vita editions will be bundled together as part of the Cross-Buy program. So if you already own the PS3 version, you’ll be able to download Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition for free.

Minecraft for everybody (except Wii U owners)!
