PS Store Today: Transistor, Wolfenstein: New Order, Drakengard 3, more

This is the week your PlayStation 4 has been waiting for. OK, maybe it’s just the week that my (hypothetical) PlayStation 4 has been waiting for. Either way, there are two very cool PS4 games available for purchase through the PlayStation Store as of today.
Supergiant’s Transistor is a sci-fi action RPG and the followup to their blockbuster breakthrough, Bastion. If you’d rather blast mecha-enhanced Nazis in the face with a bazooka, you may want to check out Wolfenstein: The New Order. The latest entry in the venerable FPS franchise is the debut project from MachineGames. And from the looks of it, they’re going to be around for a long time.
But if you’re a PS3 owner, don’t worry, there’s plenty more for you this week, including your own version of Wolfenstein: The New Order. However, fans of quirky Japanese RPGs will be most satisfied with this week’s PS3 slate as NIS America released Mugen Souls Z, Square Enix released Drakengard 3, and Atlus re-released Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga.
More information about all of these games and more (including a quintet of import PS1 Classics) can be found after the break. And a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

TitanFall stomps the competition yet again as the best-selling game of April 2014

After selling 925,000 copies in March, TitanFall continued to roll over the competition at retail as the NPD Group crowned it the best-selling game of April 2014 as well.
The remainder of the top ten was made up almost entirely of games released last Fall including Call of Duty: Ghosts (#2), NBA 2K14 (#3), and Lego The Hobbit (#5). Amazingly, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition continues to hang out in the top five, landing at #4 for the month of April. That ranking may improve next month now that the retail version of Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition is available. And speaking of things that are amazing, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was the only other April release to crack the top ten (it was #8).
Finally, according to Joystiq, Sony’s PlayStation 4 can lay claim to the next-generation consoles sales title for another month. That makes four in a row for the PS4.
The complete top ten list for April 2014 can be found after the break. (more…)

PS Store Today: Borderlands 2 Vita, Walking Dead Season 2: In Harm’s Way, more

Welcome to yet another weekly PlayStation Store update. The PS4 sits out this week, but there’s still a few big offerings now available for the PS3 and Vita.
Almost first appearing on the PC in 2011 and on the Xbox 360 in 2012, old school FPS Serious Sam 3: BFE lands on the PS3. He is joined by In Harm’s Way, the third episode of Telltale’s The Walking Dead Season 2.
And over on the Vita, Gearbox has brought Borderlands 2 to Sony’s handheld after winning more awards and releasing more downloadable content than any game in living memory on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. It’s joined by Soul Sacrifice Delta, an enhanced version of Keiji Inafune’s action RPG.
More details on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

New Releases: Borderlands 2 Vita, Minecraft: PS3 Edition

The remainder of May will be a treasure trove of great new releases, but first we have to get through one of the slowest weeks for new releases in a long time. Especially when you realize that neither one of these games is new.
The slimmer and lighter PlayStation Vita was shipped to stores last week as part of the Borderlands 2 Vita Bundle, but if you want to play Gearbox’s shooter on the go and you already own a Vita, perhaps you’ll be interested in the standalone version of Borderlands 2 for the Vita.
And over on the PS3, the retail release of Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition will be available this week. The game has been available as a downloadable title through the PlayStation Store since the end of 2013, but if you want a disc, here’s your shot.
OK, that’s it. Be sure to check back later this week for a roundup of new releases on the digital storefronts.

Sportsfriends, GoW Collection, MLB 14: The Show PS4, more added to PS Store
Gather all your friends, because its Sportsfriends time. The retro-inspired multiplayer game offers four unconventional twists on the standard sports game (including competitive pole vaulting, a Smash Bros./dodgeball mashup, and four-goal soccer) and pulls them all together in one awesome package for the PS3 and PS4. Speaking of sports, MLB 14: The Show has also been released for the PS4 and the acclaimed soccer management sim, Football Manager Classic 2014, is now available for the Vita.
The ancient sport of “killing lots of dudes” represents itself well in this week’s PlayStation Store update as God of War Collection (a compilation of God of War and God of War II) is now available for the Vita (as a PS3/Vita Cross-Buy game) and action RPG Bound By Flame has been released for the PS3 and PS4. Are you not entertained?
Finally this week, the beloved PS2 RPG Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne has been added to the PS2 Classics storefront.
More information on all of these titles (and a few additional new releases) can be found after the break. A complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons can be found at the PlayStation Blog. (more…)

New Releases: Borderlands 2 Vita Bundle, Bound By Flame, MLB 14: The Show PS4, More

This week’s new release report once again focuses on games that have found new homes. Games like…
- Borderlands 2. Gearbox’s insane shooter is now available on the Vita thanks to the Borderlands 2 Vita Bundle. A standalone version of the Vita port will be available next week.
- God of War Collection. The God of War and God of War II compilation has also been shrunk down to Vita size.
- MLB 14: The Show. Sony’s baseball simulation has made the next-generation leap to the PS4.
But there’s still a trio of NEW new releases this week as well. Bound By Flame, a medieval action RPG from Spiders Studio will be released this week for the PC, PS3, PS4, and Xbox 360. It will be joined by Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure, the first new Tex Murphy game in over 15 years, and Hakuoki: Stories of the Shinsengumi, a visual novel-style RPG for the PS3.
Naturally, a bunch of new games will be added to the PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop, Xbox Live Store, and Steam throughout the week. We’ll talk more about those games soon.

Kickstart This! The Gruesome Chocolate Death Edition

By the time you read this, I will be dead. It will have been a gruesome death, as I am buried under an avalanche of Easter eggs. Death by chocolate, if you will. Like Christ, it will take me three days to rise again, carrying the weight of my guilt in my stomach. So before I get so fat that I can’t reach my keyboard, let us turn our attention to the games and projects you could help fund in April and May.
This month, we have the mesmerising and beautiful adventure puzzler Source, 2D hedonistic shooter Shots in the Dark, isometric RPG detective thriller Pixel Noir, sci-fi planet conquering RTS Hextraction, a returning Kickstarter project in the Lovecraftian 2D adventure game Mark of the Old Ones, and last but not least, sci-fi noir adventure Last Life.
Nom, nom, nom… (more…)
Walking Dead: Season 2 Vita, Octodad, Soul Calibur: Lost Swords, more added to PS Store

The dead walk on the PS Vita this week as Telltale Games has released the first two episodes of The Walking Dead: Season 2 on Sony’s handheld. As with the PC and console editions, each episode is individually priced at $4.99 while the five-episode Season Pass is a steal at $19.99.
Other games available this week include:
- Octodad: Dadliest Catch (PS4), the only undercover octopus game on the market today.
- Cel Damage HD (PS3+PS4+Vita Cross-Buy), a new remake of a car combat game that used to be exclusive to the GameCube.
- Soul Calibur: Lost Swords (PS3), a free-to-play take on the popular fighting franchise.

Hit the break for more on all of this week’s new releases (including a few not listed above) and head on over to the PlayStation Blog for a complete rundown of this week’s new game add-ons. (more…)
