Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows add-on will be available this Spring

Now that we know when it’ll launch on the PS3, PS4, and Vita, Yacht Club Games has announced that Shovel Knight‘s first expansion, Plague of Shadows, will be available this Spring. Plague of Shadows will be a free update when its released and it’ll place the spotlight on the diminutive Plague Knight as he searches for the Ultimate Potion:
You play as Plague Knight, the villainous master of alchemy, in a quest all his own. Using his maniacal scientific mind, Plague Knight is seeking to concoct Serum Supernus, the Ultimate Potion. However, to retrieve these ingredients, he must extract them from his former allies… the villainous knights of the Order of No Quarter! World class platforming, music, storytelling, and art all return in Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows; an explosive quest with a new play style, new story, new bosses, and more!
Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows will make its public debut at this weekend’s PAX East expo. If you’re heading out to the Boston convention, the expansion will be playable on the show floor at Yacht Club’s booth, where they’ll also be selling a never-before-seen Shovel Knight plush toy with a magnetized shovel.
Plague of Shadows is the first of three planned expansions for Shovel Knight on the 3DS, PC, Wii U, and PlayStation platforms. Eventually, those who dispense shovel justice will also be able to play as the swanky King Knight and the wealthy Mole Knight.

Nintendo will bring Splatoon, Xenoblade 3DS, Puzzle & Dragons: Mario, more to PAX East

Nintendo has announced their PAX East 2015 lineup and I hope you like handheld gaming, because it is very 3DS heavy. Attendees will get a chance to play the already available The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, and Super Smash Bros. For 3DS. But for players looking for something a little more unreleased, Nintendo will also decorate their booth with demo units containing Code Name: STEAM, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, and Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition. GungHo Online will also have a booth at PAX East with a playable demo of the other half of the Puzzle & Dragons package, Puzzle & Dragons Z.
A single Wii U game, Splatoon, will also be available to play at the expo. Nintendo’s colorful first person shooter will launch in May and its PAX East appearance will be the last chance gamers get to try it out before its release.
“We love giving our fans an opportunity to check out our latest products at PAX events,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “The newly released New Nintendo 3DS XL is sure to be popular with the many show-goers looking for StreetPass tags, and Splatoon will let attendees get their first hands-on experience with one of the year’s most creative games.”
The 2015 PAX East expo will take place next weekend, March 6th through the 8th, at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
Nintendo Download: Donkey Kong Country trilogy, DK Land trilogy, Ironfall Invasion, more
It’s Donkey Kong Country Day on the Nintendo eShop as Nintendo has added all three Donkey Kong Country games to the Wii U eShop and all three Donkey Kong Land games to the 3DS eShop.
Donkey Kong Country, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest, and Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble were all released in the waning days of the Super NES in an attempt to stave off the then-new PlayStation and Saturn systems. All three games launched to widespread critical acclaim, helped bring Donkey Kong back to the mainstream, and showed just how beautiful 2D side-scrollers could be.
Meanwhile, the Donkey Kong Land series attempted to adapt these landmark titles for the pea-green Game Boy. They weren’t exact translations, but Donkey Kong Land, Donkey Kong Land 2, and Donkey Kong Land III were all well-liked in their own right.
Also available this week is Ironfall Invasion, a free-to-play 3DS eShop title that attempts to bring a Gears of War-like third-person shooting experience to Nintendo’s handheld.
More information on all of these games (and a few other new releases) can be found after the break. (more…)
PAX East 2015 Indie Megabooth lineup has been announced
The people behind the Indie Megabooth have announced this year’s PAX East 2015 lineup, which includes 79 games from 76 developers. The mazelike network of booths and carpet will feature a variety of eclectic games including previous PAXpocalypse selections such as Broforce (East 2014), Catlateral Damage (East 2014), Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime (Prime 2013), Tumblestone (East 2014), and We Are Doomed (Prime 2013).
Trailers for every game are viewable at the Indie Megabooth official site and after taking in the short teasers, I’m sure a few other games will catch your fancy. I know I’m already planning to line up for Black Ice, a neon-coated beat ’em up/first person shooter; One More Line, a mobile game that feels like a Spider-Man simulator; and Titan Souls, a “Zeldalike” from Acidnerve.
In the interests of journalistic integrity, I’d also like to mention that Warp Zoned’s own Nicole Kline and Anthony Amato have earned a spot in this year’s Indie Megabooth Tabletop Area with their game, Resistor. I know I’m biased, but you should check it out.
You should also check out the complete list of games you’ll find within the Indie Megabooth at PAX East 2015, which is available after the break. (more…)

Nicole’s IndieCade East 2015 Diary

Last weekend, IndieCade East was held once again at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York City. For three (extremely cold) days, I spent my time attending talks, playing games, and, of course, interacting with some amazing indie talent. Promoted as “IndieCade Festival’s sarcastic, all-black-wearing cousin,” IndieCade East had keynotes, talks, panels, workshops, an eSports showcase, Show & Tell, a curated showcase (entitled “Love & Rejection, Gesture, and Horizons”), and my personal favorite, Night Games. There was so much to do that even after three days, I hadn’t done it all. (more…)
Nintendo Download: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Pokemon Shuffle, more

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse brings its claymation-styled side-scrolling to the Wii U eShop this week… tomorrow to be exact. The pink puffball (Can clay be puffy? Probably a question for another time…) is joined by Axelay, a Super NES shooter that is now available through the Wii U’s Virtual Console service.
Over on the 3DS eShop, the free-to-play puzzler Pokemon Shuffle is available today along with the Flappy Bird homage Flap Flap and a pair of RPGs: Excave and Adventure Bar Story (and yes, it’s about saving a local bar from a greedy businessman).
Finally, the DSiWare Shop makes a return with a brand new pair of match-3 puzzlers: Fishdom and 4 Elements,
More details on all of these games can be found after the break. (more…)

Project CARS release fishtails its way into April
The highways and byways of the northeast are currently a mess, so it seems rather fitting that Slightly Mad Studios has announced that the release date for Project CARS has slipped once again. Previously set to get the green flag on March 17, the game will now be released for the PC on April 2 and for the PS4 and Xbox One on April 7. The Wii U edition of Project CARS still has a “TBA 2015” release date.
“Moving a release date was not an easy decision to make, as we know our fans are eager to get their hands-on on Project CARS,” said Ian Bell, the Studio Head at Slightly Mad Studios. “But we know that these extra days will allow us to provide the best game experience that our fans deserve. We assure you the wait will be worth it when the game does arrive early April.”
To keep your engine revving, Slightly Mad has teamed up distributor Bandai Namco to release a series of behind-the-scenes videos detailing the development process behind Project CARS. The first, which has been embedded above, will feature Creative Director Andy Tudor kicking the tires on the game’s Career Mode.
Another clue points to Tom Nook, Pikmin Amiibos
My wife is currently volunteering at my son’s school book fair. While setting up, she snapped a picture of one of the Nintendo posters available for sale.
Notice anything different? Animal Crossing‘s Tom Nook and Pikmin‘s, well, Pikmin, are front-and-center on this Amiibo poster. That’s quite odd, as Nintendo hasn’t made any official announcements regarding any additional Amiibo releases outside of the Super Smash Bros. and Mario Party 10 lines. Does this mean these two characters are still in the cards as future Amiibos? And does this mean they’ll be announced soon?
Now, don’t go thinking that this poster acts as of these figures. Actually, the art is the same as this GameStop poster (via Reddit) first seen back in December. But with the final design of the new Mario Party 10 Mario figure added to the mix, one can’t help but wonder why these other characters haven’t been taken out of the image. As with any Nintendo-related rumors, take this one with the ol’ grain of salt until you hear it straight from the Big N, but I like my chances of picking up Tom Nook and Pikmin Amiibo figures someday.
