BioShock Infinite Ultimate Songbird Edition announced
Irrational Games just upped the competition for best collector’s edition ever with the new Ultimate Songbird Edition for BioShock Infinite. This version of the game – which costs $149.99 – comes with the Songbird statue, an art book, a resin miniature for their upcoming board game based on the video game (yay!), a lithograph, a sweet keychain, a digital soundtrack, three gear powerups, and downloadable content specific to whichever platform you buy it on. Oh, and it comes with the game, too.
Don’t want that giant statue? Order the Premium Edition instead, which comes with everything except the statue, and will cost you $79.99. You can pre-order your copy of either edition (or the game-only box) at your retailer of choice now. Personally, I’m excited to hear more about the board game, BioShock Infinite: The Siege of Columbia by Plaid Hat Games. Just take my money, Ken Levine.
BioShock Infinite will be released on February 26, 2013 for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Prey 2 is officially still in limbo
Back in April, Bethesda officially declared that development on Prey 2 had stalled. A company spokesman would confirm that the game wasn’t being cancelled, but that it would definitely not make its planned 2012 release date. In the six months since that news was handed down… not much has changed.
Nathan Cheever, a designer at Human Head Studios took to Twitter this week to confirm that the game is still in limbo:
Prey 1 = Indians in Space.Prey 2 = Cowboys in Space. (#Prey2).btw, P2 hasn’t been officially canceled, only in limbo.
— Nathan Cheever (@NathanCheever) October 15, 2012
As we said at the time, the original Prey took 11 years to go from announcement to release. So this delay is, sadly, par for the course for the series.
The Scientifically Proven Top 100 Video Games of All Time

We greatly expanded and updated The Scientifically Proven Best Video Games of All Time as The Video Game Canon in 2017. You should check it out!
When it comes to deciding which video games qualify as the best of all time, everyone has an opinion. And sometimes those opinions result in a violent argument over the mental faculties (or lack thereof) of the listmaker. So we thought we’d add a little science to the equation to find out exactly which games can be considered the “100 Best Video Games of All Time” and which ones have been fighting above their weight class all these years. XBLA Today: Serious Sam 3: BFE, Zombie Driver HD, Discovered

Today’s trio of additions to the Xbox Live Arcade couldn’t be more different.
First up, there’s Serious Sam: BFE (1200 Microsoft Points/$15), one of the wildest first person shooters on the PC, now available for the XBLA:
Serious Sam 3: BFE is a glorious throwback to the golden age of first-person shooters where men were men, cover was for amateurs, and pulling the trigger made things go boom. Brutally fast-paced action, massive shootouts, and thrilling cooperative play make for the most explosive Serious Sam game ever! Contains the full single-player and cooperative campaign modes.
Next up is Zombie Driver HD (800 Microsoft Points/$10), a top-down car combat game that pits a variety of vehicles against the lumbering undead:
Insane mix of cars, speed, explosions, blood and zombies! Fight through an epic narrative campaign or test yourself in the Slaughter and Blood Race modes. Engage huge bosses, save survivors, drive crazy vehicles such as a bulldozer, fire truck or even a tank and smash everything in your way. Take part in the Blood Race tournament – chase other cars and take them down without mercy on brutal racing tracks. Jump into the Slaughter mode and survive as long as possible on specially crafted arenas.
Finally, we’ve got Discovered, a Kinect-powered “original interactive film” that promises to give you a taste of stardom. Due to a sponsorship from Intel, Discovered is a free download on the XBLA:
Do you have what it takes to be a superstar? Get schooled by Chris Evans on the secrets of the action hero. Get styled and learn how to work the runway with Chanel Iman. Rock the party with Redfoo of LMFAO. Live video play puts you in the action: punch, jab, kick, jump — pose, smile — surf the crowd. Pass these celebrity tests and you’ll be slated for stardom. Share the custom movie poster of you and Evans, and your magazine cover shot, with your friends.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II launch trailer released a month early
Call of Duty: Black Ops II has an awesome launch trailer, and even though the game’s launch is still a month away, we can check it out now. I’m not big on the Call of Duty series, but I was hopelessly addicted to the first Black Ops, and with the pre-order bonus of the Nuketown 2525 map, I’m worried I’m going to cave and get it. Well… maybe I’ll just watch the trailer again.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be released for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on November 13, 2012 with a Wii U version arriving a few days later.
Fall 2012 Dashboard Update, featuring Internet Explorer, now available
Xbox 360 owners; start your systems – Microsoft has released the 2012 Fall Update for your system’s dashboard!
The most notable addition is the inclusion of Internet Explorer for the console, which was announced a few months ago during the E3 Expo.
Here’s a more complete list of dashboard changes, straight from the good people at Microsoft:
- Refreshed Xbox 360 Dashboard: We’ve updated the UI with a few things, including an updated layout with more tiles, a combined TV & Movies channel and, in the US, a Sports destination.
- Internet Explorer for Xbox: With Internet Explorer on Xbox, you can easily find and view internet content on the biggest screen in the house, including HTML5 videos.
- Recommendations and Ratings: Recommendations will allow you to discover new favorites, generated based on a number of variables including the content you previously viewed, what your friends are consuming and what is most relevant and popular with our Xbox community. You can now rate content yourself and also see Rotten Tomatoes ratings.
- Pinning: Pinning lets you personalize the dashboard by saving your favorite movies, TV shows, games, music, videos and websites right to the home screen. It’s as easy as opening an app or a favorite movie and clicking “pin.”
- Xbox Video: Formerly called Zune Video Marketplace, Xbox Video offers hundreds of thousands of TV shows and movies for buying or renting in instant HD streaming.
- Recent: Previously called Quick Play, the Recent view gives you a list of movies, games, apps or other types of content that you most recently accessed on the console.
- Enhanced Search: The last Xbox Live update brought Bing voice search to Xbox so you could use voice to search for movies, TV shows, actors, directors and artists. This year we added genre search to the list, so now you can search for action, comedy, romance, drama or sci-fi. Bing voice search now includes results for video across the Web, including YouTube.
- International Expansion of Voice Search: We’ve expanded our Kinect voice search capabilities to 9 new countries – Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Ireland.
Microsoft has also announced that a separate update, which will add Xbox SmartGlass support, will be made available on October 26th, the same day as Windows 8.
For the full press release, check out Major Nelson’s blog.
Daily Scoop: October 16, 2012 – Plans within plans
Nothing like having a full agenda and getting nothing done! I swear that’s been my life lately. Try to get one thing together and a million other things seem to fall in the way. Oh, and also, today is kind of a natural bummer of a day – it’s the day BioShock Infinite was supposed to come out. Boo!
Anyway, what’s going on for today? John Scalzo, our Editor-in-Chief, let me know that Gamefly is having a nice sale – it’s an under $15 sale on used games. You can get Mass Effect 3 or Syndicate for $9.99, or Binary Domain or Batman: Arkham City for $14.99. Or you could just spend your money on the Borderlands 2 DLC that came out today, or saving it up for the new Sleeping Dogs DLC that was just announced. Scoop those up, people! For sure.
Some great t-shirts are up for sale today! (more…)
